  2. I looked at some other online discussion tattoo forums for a while, and most of them were just filled with negative rude people, online discussion forums are not new to me,I have belonged to computer/home theater/audio video/canine,etc,etc,a couple for 10 years now, so thanks to all here for making this one a friendly, enjoyable,& comfortable place to hangout.

  3. I will have to agree with this even being a mod on one of those grumpy forums. I just wish this place was more open to other tattoos then traditional tattoos. A well done tattoo is a well done tattoo whether it is traditional or tribal or realism or trash polka.

I have a crazy idea in my head: tomorrow morning I should drive 4 hours down to NY to make appointments for 2014 with a famously hard to book artist... This is a good idea right?

  8. Recently I have gained some damn good motivation to get healthy. Quit smoking a few months back and now have been working my ass off to get back in shape. Getting my chest tattooed has been a pretty big motivation.

  9. Strange that I never posted mine to this thread; I must have thought I already had(?) According to Steve Byrne, I was the first person to ask him for a RoA (in 2011 if you can believe that), so I guess that's my claim to fame:

@BrianH Do it unless you want to be BANNED. (We drove eight hours for a consult once, which seems kind of crazy when I actually think about it but seemed more or less sane at the time...depends on how badly you want the tattoo)

  13. This is from yesterday, really fun piece on my buddy as part of a trade before he moves to Australia. A little red and bruised, but I think I got a good picture. be nice, I get really self conscious posting my work among so many amazing tattoos :o (although I am totally open to constructive criticism if anyone feels so inclined!)

  17. This is a great idea. I need to finally get around to booking with a few people around the city as well, I just keep getting sidetracked by smaller, more impulsive tattoos. In much the same form, I'm getting some work done this Sunday afternoon. A lady head on the outside of my right bicep from Mina Aoki. She does some nice things with eyes and whatnot. (Mina Aoki | Just another WordPress.com site) After that, the booking in advance and careful planning stage of my getting tattooed will begin. ...I hope. Although I don't want to completely abandon the more impulsive tattoos as well.

    Tatt2away?

There's a tattoo shop in Maryland doing this. I'm kind of bugged out by it because there's no background info given / no FDA approval for how / why it works and whenever anything is marked proprietary I start to question what's in it. The results are somewhat impressive, but the procedure time is longer, it's invasive and who knows what the long term effects will be of it. At least laser treatments are FDA approved and there's 2 decades of proven history to go along with them.

  19. I think the most important lesson I learned from LST is normal, "boring", everyday people are usually the ones getting the awesome tattoos from talented artists. Before coming here I had the silly idea that only creative types with interesting jobs and exciting lives got the best tattoos.

  20. I too, like to watch having my blood drawn. Also, I donate blood as much as I can, excluding where having a new tattoo disallows me from it. It's a huge needle that goes into your arm, they roll the vein sometimes, and they take several vials before even taking the pint of your blood. The intial feeling makes me feel sick, and the feeling of a needle in your arm sucks... but it's odd and interesting to watch yourself lose a pint of blood. the tube that allows the blood to go into the bag gets warm from your blood, and it's like, what am I doing? Sometimes, its a little comparable to being tattooed. it's interesting and fascinating to watch, and painful, with great results. Lol except being tattooed doesn't almost make me pass out everytime.

  21. I've quit for months at a time on more than a few occasions, just keep coming back to it for some reason. After getting sober (2 years last Monday!) I know I can do it, but sometimes I use the whole "this is the only vice I've got left" excuse and that kinda throws a wrench in it. I could save so much money though and I think that's the way I've got to think about it.

  22. Definitely. I moved here from a different tattoo forum, it's miles better in every single way. The fact that rude and insulting people aren't tolerated here means everyone is well behaved and polite on the whole - which is refreshing for the internet!

    Hello! New from Cincy!

While it feels nice to be in control of every detail of a your (first?) tattoo, you have to keep in mind that tattooers are paid to not only shove ink into your skin, but also draw and design art that will hold and work as a tattoo. Find someone whose style you dig, maybe you can give them your sketch as reference to show the elements you want and the poses you'd like them in, but don't be afraid if they come back with something totally different. Too many limitations can be annoying, plus they might think of some awesome addition that never even crossed your mind. I like giving a degree of freedom so they can be excited about the work they're doing.

  26. I had to add this - This is from a Jenny Clarke flash sheet, and is supposed to be a chest panel/half sleeve design, which the artist clearly didn't understand, and copied it, very small, onto a forearm. I don't think I have ever seen a tattoo miss the point as much as this one.

  31. I thought we could use a thread that shined a little light on some of the artists we love, but aren't necessarily very renowned or getting the recognition we feel they deserve. Lets get the ball rolling.... I've been a fan of the work of James Tex of Deadly Tattoos inc, located in Calgary, Canada, for a few years now. I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with his work, and some members here might even know him personally and/or have tattoos from him. Anyways, I stumbled across him a while back in another tattoo forum where a member showed off the progress of a Samurai sleeve he was getting done from Tex. I was blown away by his work, and to my great viewing pleasure he had a fairly large online portfolio on his shops website: Deadly Tattoos inc. I'm not sure if everyone agrees with me in that he's "low key", but I can't say that I have read an article about him or seen any pictures of his tattoo except on his website (and obviously the forum I mentioned). Here's a few samples of his work from his online portfolio:

    Hello! New from Cincy!

Yep, lines will spread and small details will end up bleeding together. There's a great new instagram account called vintage_tattoos run by Steven Wrigley, a tattooer from Glasgow, and it's worth looking at if only to get a better idea of how tattoos are going to age and look 30, 40, 50 or more years down the line. I think you'd be far better off breaking the design up into different elements and getting a geisha girl as one tattoo, a koi as another, but that's a discussion you should be having with your artist.

Maybe if she asked how much a shop would charge for a Justin Bieber song in typeface font across her whole back to cover up a silly traditional lady head. Oh, and welcome to the forums. I'm pretty sure nerdy nurses will always be welcomed with open arms.

It feels good seeing everyone again and walking around a city that you know like the back of your palm. If anyone is interested in pictures of the cute version of Amsterdam where I live (Leiden) Check out the pictures i put on my travelpage: www.facebook.com/drifterineurope next monday we're going back to Germany and then back up north to visit @Johannes again. 48. Seems like they wanted attention and got it. They are not hurting anyone, and she's a consenting adult...so whatever, what's done is done. She couldn't move it to her stomach because apparently she's planning a bio-mech bodysuit. If she regrets it, she'll have to deal w/that. Do I personally think it's a bad idea, yeah, and seems a bit too possessive for my taste-the marking of "property" aspect of it, but then a lot of people (plainskins) think my tattoos were a bad idea, too, and they are wrong!
