Had a DAMN good time with the Stells and the folks who showed up at Pair o Dice to wish Richard a Happy Birthday and shop opening. That shop is going to push out some killer tattoos.

  5. No peanuts near me, maybe half bottle of wine I was enjoying on a bank holiday after getting tattooed today. Does it really matter the terminology used, just go get a tattoo without a rule book in your back pocket. Pointless thread.

    "My tattoo artist..."

I don't think I can agree to that. *sigh* Spencer was my tattoo artist, for the past-- almost a year... so sad I've had to release him back to the wild. My hair dresser, on the other hand, she is still MINE.

  9. It isn't worth wasting your time caring about what tattoos other people get. People have been getting tattoos for as long as there have been people, I have no reason to believe that people will ever stop getting tattoos. It's larger than all of us and it will survive. Sorry for being a dirty hippie there.

  10. I thought that was a really interesting part of his philosophy as well. I'd agree that it's kind of a bummer how tattoos are becoming so demystified, but I also think that that mysticism can never really die as it's a very intrinsic part of tattooing. What I see happening now is more of a divide between the people who "get tatted" and people go "get tattooed." The former category is generally composed of people who like the idea of getting tattooed and do so to embody the counter-cultural status quo/because it's cool/because wiz khalifa has tattoos. I think that the latter category falls more into people who do their research on good tattooing and solid artists, those who follow a path toward the right tattoo. The people who have a certain reverence for the process and go about it almost ritualistically, and I believe that's what Horiyoshi III-sama was talking about. I don't know if that will ever really die...

    "Tattoo Collector" ?????

They aren't "gangs", they are CLUBS. "Gang" is a pejorative assigned to groups of motorcycling afficianados who have formed clubs by PIGS.

  14. Nice one! I am super excited to watch Alex Snelgrove grow as a tattooer because while she's putting on great tattoos right now, I think as she tattoos more and gets more experience she is going to be really amazing. She is such an incredible artist and her handpokes are completely ridiculous. There's a handpoked portrait on her instagram that is better than what I've seen a lot of people do with a machine. - - - Updated - - - Here you go, handpoked portait by Alex Snelgrove (this tattoo isn't on me): http://instagram.com/snelgrove

  16. Brilliant video, thanks a lot! Seeing Yoshi's bodysuit in person is truly special, if you ever find him at a convention, follow him around until he gets naked. I don't think its technically illegal.

  17. Just flying back now from another visit to Colorado to work and play. Did some tattoos at Godspeed and at Bolder Ink, and enjoyed a lot of the outdoor stuff there is to do. Always a good time when I'm out there. - - - Updated - - - That was an awesome trip Chris, it looks like you had a great time. Right on!

  18. After 2 months of hitchhiking i've now been back home for a week. Figured i'd introduce my girlfriend to my parents and see my friends again so we are here for a total of 2 weeks. It feels good seeing everyone again and walking around a city that you know like the back of your palm. If anyone is interested in pictures of the cute version of Amsterdam where I live (Leiden) Check out the pictures i put on my travelpage: www.facebook.com/drifterineurope next monday we're going back to Germany and then back up north to visit @Johannes again. Life's good!

  19. Finished my first 5k with very little training. Official time was 29 minutes 40 seconds. Ran most of the race except for two 30 second walking breaks during the last half of the course. I was very surprised to finish under 30 minutes! Going to try and actually train by running twice a week and see if I can beat my time in a race at the end of summer/ early fall.

  29. This is an interesting topic with a lot of grey area. As a tattooer, it's pretty disheartening and insulting when someone blatantly rips off your work. As a client, well.. I was talking to Mr. Campise about not putting my piece online as to skate around the biters and he laid it out pretty simply. Nobody is ever going to do the original justice, and it's pretty much just free(albeit really obnoxious) advertising. Nothing can ever outshine true authenticity, and whoever ends up with the copy ends up walking around with a permanent bummer. So that's kind of where I sit on that matter... It sucks, it's inevitably going to happen, don't do it if you tattoo, and don't get down on it as a client.

    "My tattoo artist..."

When I got my first tattoo 22 years ago it was because I thought I was tough and didn't give a fuck. Still today 22years later i like to think that getting a tattoo is still partly rebelling. So I will call my artist my artist, a machine a gun and a tattoo a tat if I sure choose so. Bring back the days of bikers, sailors and rebels getting tattooed as there seems to be to many softies with to many rules with regards to getting tattooed today.

  34. I ended up in The Pearl again this weekend. Yesterday we really closed in on finishing my left arm. Only a few spots left at this point. Tim made a landscape with a palm tree in the foreground and added a little filler skull on the inside of my elbow. I have to say I am very pleased with the progress. One more session in June should wrap things up. I apologize for the crappy pictures.

  36. Why does it bother you? I find it kind of endearing, as it usually means that said client gets tattooed by the same person consistently. We don't own our friends or our coworkers or our dentist, but we still say "my friend, my coworker, my dentist." I don't see much of a difference?

    Lower leg tattoo

When I had my one lower leg shaded it swelled quite a bit. I would feel a ton of pressure when it needed to be moisturized during the healing process. It was almost crippling! It was shaded the whole way around in one go, so that may be why I experienced the pressure sensation. Pics from the session (2008):

I don't know where exactly I should post up.... But, the party is next weekend, I am keeping my word to my old man... I'm on a flight to JAX, FL... to get the artwork, and taxidermy, and neon, and home furnishings with two fellow Texans in tow.... This last week has been a true testament to the saying Mi Vida Loca.... The only thing I am thankful for is the tattoo family that has created a protective circle of love and support around Richard. It's opened his eyes as well as mine to how precious life really is, and how we are blessed. Crazy. Mad. Love. Love. Loyalty. Respect. Take care of tattooing, and it takes care of you. It's TRUE. Making this last run is about all the energy I have left, then I want to party.

  39. I think I may have figured out how to post a pic here. We'll call this is test. If you can see this image, it was done for me by Tim Pausinger at The Pearl Harbor Gift Shop in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on November 27, 2012. This pic was taken by Tim on my phone as soon as it was done. I still need to get a decent healed pic but, suffice to say right now that it has settled in very nicely. It is inside my right bicep. - - - Updated - - - Success! :)

  41. Really the only things that have changed is the fact I am now multi-colored. I've always seen myself as a person that will have a lot of tattoos, so actually getting them hasn't really changed anything. I guess as of recently I do have to deal with people always pulling my sleeve up or similar as they want to check out the bigger stuff. Honestly the metal shirts I wear grab more attention that my tattoos. A Cannibal Corpse or Darkfuneral shirt is a bit more out there than tattoos at least in my area of the country.

I almost exclusively use the word tattooer. I don't think their is a right or wrong answer, and I suppose some of it probably has to do with where you are in the world.

    "Tattoo Collector" ?????

I really don't refer to myself as anything but I guess I do collect tattoos intentionally from different artists that I like so technically, I guess I could be called a collector. The term doesn't offend me, what else are you supposed to call it?

  48. I definitely put myself in the 'collector' category, in as much as there's a bunch of people I definitely want pieces by, but I'm the only one who cares out of my friends and I don't really talk about it outside of this community, I just get them done when the opportunities arise. I'm also planning to/have got a bunch of pieces by my favourite couple of artists and shops and that's unlikely to change unless I move somewhere else in which case I'll likely do the same wherever that is...

  49. I got my first a couple days after I turned 18. I told my mom I was getting it-she didn't believe me. I told her I would be late coming home b/c it was an hour drive and my friend and I were the last appts of the night. She "uh huh, yeah, ok" 'd me, still not believing me. Came home later, she said "where have you been? It's past curfew" Um..have I not been telling you all week I was getting a tattoo, hello? She was so stunned she didn't say much after that. Dad did the whole "ohhh GAWWWD you're going to regreeeeet this foreeeeeeever" drama speech.
