  2. Why does it bother you? I find it kind of endearing, as it usually means that said client gets tattooed by the same person consistently. We don't own our friends or our coworkers or our dentist, but we still say "my friend, my coworker, my dentist." I don't see much of a difference?

  3. I'll answer a few questions in no specific order RE: Penis Dragon. That customer came to the shop after searching for someone who would be willing to do the tattoo. I agreed to do it because he was clear about what he did and didn't want from the tattoo and unlike others who inquire about similar work, he didn't seem to be 'getting off' talking about it. Also he wanted a tattoo that looked good, rather than just a tattoo that obliterated his genitals. It's his only tattoo. He's not what I would call a 'tattoo person' he doesn't really care about tattoos, he just knows what he wants and expects a high quality outcome. He has a profession where you would never know or see his tattoo. I'm told the only person who will see it is his long term wife. He handled the pain exceptionally well. He applied Emla cream before I tattooed the head of his penis but it seemed to wear off fairly quickly. He tells me the most painful part was his scrotum. That was also the most difficult part to design, draw and tattoo. I didn't need to see his penis erect to design or tattoo it. Tattooing involves stretching skin and it's possible to predict how skin will distort. He assures me it looks great at all times and all angles. That tattoo is by far the most technically challenging, stressful and difficult work I've ever produced.

  4. I ended up in The Pearl again this weekend. Yesterday we really closed in on finishing my left arm. Only a few spots left at this point. Tim made a landscape with a palm tree in the foreground and added a little filler skull on the inside of my elbow. I have to say I am very pleased with the progress. One more session in June should wrap things up. I apologize for the crappy pictures.

    "My tattoo artist..."

I don't think I can agree to that. *sigh* Spencer was my tattoo artist, for the past-- almost a year... so sad I've had to release him back to the wild. My hair dresser, on the other hand, she is still MINE.

  9. Nice one! I am super excited to watch Alex Snelgrove grow as a tattooer because while she's putting on great tattoos right now, I think as she tattoos more and gets more experience she is going to be really amazing. She is such an incredible artist and her handpokes are completely ridiculous. There's a handpoked portrait on her instagram that is better than what I've seen a lot of people do with a machine. - - - Updated - - - Here you go, handpoked portait by Alex Snelgrove (this tattoo isn't on me): http://instagram.com/snelgrove

    "My tattoo artist..."

I think you're being a bit precious. I talk about my doctor, my dentist, my physiotherapist, my gym... I don't feel like I own any of them either. Sorry cltattoing - I totally stole your point without realising!

    Face tatty's like whoa

Arrrghhh this makes me so upset!! I truly believe that anyone who is in tattooing "for the money" should get their thumbs broken and be forced to wear a necklace of garlic for the rest of their lives cause fuck vampires. Like.. tattooers possess an incredible amount of power over people, and it really isn't something to be taken lightly. Facial tattoos change peoples' lives in a very significant way, and to me, the idea of being like "yeah I'll do that, never have to think about it again, walk away with $500 tonight" is pretty disgusting. Like, really.. can breaking thumbs be a thing again please?

  12. My daughter and I made a secret surprise karaoke youtube video of "Solid" by Ashford and Simpson to post on @DJDeepFried 's facebook page for our 6th wedding anniversary. We had a very small window of opportunity when he left for meditation class Wednesday evening and surprised him with it today! I got my kindergarten students to paint backdrops for it, and I made a beard and mustache attached to a tongue depressor to put up to my face for the Ashford parts. Stella was amazing at keeping a secret for a 5 year old... DJ knew there was a secret but she didn't say what it was. She kept dancing around him and winking at me Wednesday before he left... haha. It was fun.

    "My tattoo artist..."

When I got my first tattoo 22 years ago it was because I thought I was tough and didn't give a fuck. Still today 22years later i like to think that getting a tattoo is still partly rebelling. So I will call my artist my artist, a machine a gun and a tattoo a tat if I sure choose so. Bring back the days of bikers, sailors and rebels getting tattooed as there seems to be to many softies with to many rules with regards to getting tattooed today.

    "My tattoo artist..."

Wouldn't it be me more accurate to refer to yourself as "their skin canvas" since (in this case) you only go to 1 artist, but they clearly tattoo more than 1 person? So, honestly, they have ownership over you.

    Lower leg tattoo

When I had my one lower leg shaded it swelled quite a bit. I would feel a ton of pressure when it needed to be moisturized during the healing process. It was almost crippling! It was shaded the whole way around in one go, so that may be why I experienced the pressure sensation. Pics from the session (2008):

  28. I think for me tattoos are part of a larger thing that changed my life...not caring what people think. I was a really nerdy kid -- like cartoonishly so. To a great extent I still am it's just less evident at a glance. You have to wait til I open my mouth. I was a bullied, targeted kid with more heavy problems than I care to share. I did not fit in...anywhere...but something happened when I was young. Punk rock. Changed everything. I was never going to be a part of the group. I was never going to be accepted or acceptable and more than that, I didn't care to be. If you're going to keep me on the outside, fine. Now I have no reason not to just go about the business of being true to myself. There's something liberating about removing yourself from the struggle to be accepted...outwardly sending the message: I don't need you to be ok with who I am. Flash forward to today and my tattoos are just one way that same mindset shows through. I know tattoos are going to keep me out of certain social circles...and they're the ones I don't want any part of. It's less about defiance and more about a disregard for convention. That's not why I get tattooed really. I get tattoos for their own reasons or none at all...but there is a reason I have "Outsider" tattooed across my chest and "Stay True" on my knuckles.

  32. I've wanted a tattoo for years, but never thought I had a good enough "reason". Well, I finally have that reason. All my life I have been extremely overweight. I'm talking 5ft 8in and weighed 330lbs. My wife and I had our first son, and when he was 1.5 years old we were talking about having a second baby. It finally sunk in that if I didn't do something I was going to have a heart attack/die and wouldn't be around to take care of my wife and kids. So with the support of my wife, I went on a diet. From July 31, 2011 to July 31, 2012 I went from 327.8 lbs to 206lbs. Over the last year I've kept the weight off, and I finally decided I had my "reason" to get a tattoo. After doing months of research, I decided Kore Flatmo was the person I wanted to tattoo me. I went through his consultation process and I have been put on the schedule Aug 16 and 17. I decided if I do this, I'm doing it right and doing it big. I'm jumping in with a full black/gray chest piece. I gave Kore a couple ideas I would like in the tattoo, but left the rest up to him. I haven't seen his completed study yet, but this is what he was thinking. One side of my chest will be a skull draped in linen. The other side will be two sparrows interacting with each other. Then right in the middle will be a portrait of my wife's eyes. He said he'd use the gray scale to show depth and make it appear like the eyes are in the background and the sparrows are the first thing your eyes see. Sorry for the long winded post, I'm just excited to get this going, and see what Kore comes up with. After talking to him, I know he's the right man for the job. I'll post pictures once I get started.

Rad thread, thanks for starting it @Delicious ! I never knew there were so many awesome beards here. It's funny to see how different some people look to how I imagined them (or, conversely, how similar). Anywho, here's me being all Cheesecake recently in celebration of losing 10kg/getting more tattooed.

  47. The only hardtail I would buy at the moment would be an older Triumph. I'm not a fan of big bikes (too heavy! Plus not 'flickable') and harleys are overpriced in my opinion. But to each his own. Bike below is what I want if I had the money for a kidney-busting bike.
