Thanks for the welcomes. Ha! No, but I know and appreciate that a lot of folks like to collect different pieces from many different tattooers. But I've gradually been getting a suit, more or less, from Tim Lehi. Way before I started that, I'd wanted to go to Eddy D. and spoke to him back when he had 222, but by the time I got around to getting work again and could afford it, he moved and wasn't really taking new clients. Then I took my time in choosing the right artist, went about it differently from when I was young. I'm sure you all understand that. During my "research" process, I checked out NY Adorned, esp. Chris O'Donnell, Paul Booth's place, some others, but once I found Black Heart, I knew it was right. I'd be interested in hearing from folks about how they made their choices of tattooers as well.4 points -

Another NY Times Article: Tattooing Transition from Cult to Fine Art
TrixieFaux and 2 others reacted to Graeme for a topic
My short response is that tattooing doesn't need validation from the New York Times or the art world. My longer response is that is anything interesting at all being said here? It's obvious that the person who wrote the article did essentially no research at all into tattooing or the history of tattooing and how it intersects or not with fine art. I mean, she writes about some jagoff performance artist who made a video of him tattooing prostitutes for heroin money in 2000, but not Ed Hardy's 2000 Dragon Scroll that exhibited in a gallery the same year? Or how about the idea that tattoos are suddenly collectible now that the fine art world has taken a bit of a shine to them? Because there weren't tattoo collectors before? And that tattoo collecting isn't at all the same as fine art collecting for the simple fact that tattoos have no exchange value? That's just a start of what's wrong with the article.3 points -

Ah ok so the fine line is also called single needle. I didn't know the lingo. It might not have been as bad if it weren't the last thing he did on me after already laying there for 5.5 hours, ha. And here is a cool pic of the face that I (my wife) took so you can see it more clearly.2 points

Got a dagger and snake from Steve Boltz when I was in Brooklyn recently, but I want to respect their request not to put pics of their work up on the interweb, so no visuals I'm afraid. Steve was a real gentleman- he's all about giving the customer a good tattoo, no fuss no messing around. Recommends a mean coffee shop too. Back in The Family Business week after next to finish my left arm, withMo Coppoletta. They just put a pic up on IG today- it's the double chrysanthemums in autumnal colours (for want of a better description).2 points

Im always impressed at the amount of tattoos people on this forum get. I get more tattoos than any of my close friends here in town, but this forum always puts me to shame. That being said I got a small spider above my kneecap yesterday. I was looking through the partially finished sheets in the back and spotted a spider I had never seen. It didn't quite fit so he had to redraw a couple of the legs on me, but turned out pretty cool. Ross Ferrie brought me into the tattoo world and it was nice to sit down and get a tattoo from him, like we used to do. Also right after he finished a friend of his from when he first started tattooing came in and got to relive some stories of Chris Conn, Robert Klem and Mav Mess's early days of tattooing.2 points -
Hi all! I can across your site while researching a new tattoo :D I have a small, bad tattoo that I got impulsively when I was a teenager! I didn't get any more done as my then boyfriend who I ended up marrying didn't like tattoos on women! I have now got rid of him and part of my treat will be to get some new tattoos! This time I am researching them properly! Looking forward to browsing the forum :D1 point

As an amazing coincidence I just got a call back from another artist who's guesting near me in the summer who I emailed a couple of months ago about a different project. So now the snake is on hold for now and a clipper ship will be next. I guess things happen for a reason. Thanks though I will keep Seth Wood in mind when the time comes again and another member also suggested Timothy Hoyer. Thanks guys.1 point -
That through the neck shark is rad! Here is something along a similar theme from Jf tattooer that works at Oly Angers shop.1 point

Oh and Ian if you are still reading my boring post, in case you ever mention this to J, let him know that his tattoo changed everything for me. It was the first really good tattoo I ever had. He did perfect lines, everything so crisp, even the corners. But what changed everything was that it was so big and the subject matter is something all my friends can envy. All the positive feedback made me realize having a tattoo can be fun. It made me want to fix all my ugly old tattoos. I may go back to J someday for future new tattoos. There are three guys in SB I've gotten good tattoos from now. It's fun to try new tattooers.1 point

Hi lovelies, no pics to profer as yet but hopefully Alec will post soon. Hate taking pics myself until they are healed. Kinda feel like they are their property until then lol! Went in expecting a ditch moth came out with a mandala on my upper bicep. I love Alec to bits and we have a great customer/Tattooer relationship because I love that I tell him I want something but he always comes up with something bigger and better. However this means I rarely know what I'm actually getting haha. I love it , it's beautiful but my arm is visibley bruised round the inside arm. Guess it's just where it's placed. So from now on I'm just goin to post the space we are filling. Next week we are doing the little gap at the top of my forearm between my swallow and my elbow. Sailor jerry heart with banner is the plan ! We are going to do another mandala with the centre on the 'wrist knuckle' to give it some semblance of cohesiveness ... Maybe :) pic will follow as / when Alec posts :) Just to add I'm really going to miss the wee bugger when he's off to the states. I hppe some of you might manage to catch him somewhere. He's a top guy , super quick and really down to earth :)1 point -
Next session done on my Dragon/Audrey Kawasaki piece. Wolf had 3 laser sessions and will be ready to cover in a couple of months. Im loving my first bit of colour in the phoenix which goes down my thigh and across my stomach. i'm thinking of a big colourful flower over the wolf what do you reckon ? Or maybe something from my left bum cheek up ? (Didnt want to put you off your tea so airbrushed my crack)1 point

My ankle coverup so far
exume reacted to David Flores for a topic
Funny slighltly unrelated but I questioned a young girl at the Italian Bakery about who did her tattoo, because I didn't recognize anyone in town that tattooed like that and sure enough she went across the river into washington to get it done. It wasn;t that the tattoo was that unique it was pinup girl on a phonograph, just the color palate, the amount of black in it, the general approach to it, didn't ring North Portland (Atlas or AWR, Infinity), the only thing I could think of was Scapegoat, but there was something about it that told me she didn't get it there. It wasn't traditional enough to be done at most shops, but too traditional to be done at the others. This has to be some sort of LST X-men type trait.1 point -

Re-wrapping tattoos
cltattooing reacted to tatB for a topic
I tried a similar method with the work I had done on Friday. Took the initial wrap off after my ~3 hour drive home, showered, air dry for 30 minutes, re-wrap with no ointments or lotions, drink a beer, and go to sleep. Wake up, shower, air dry for 30 minutes, re-wrap again, drink a beer, 8 hours later wash again, air dry for 30 minutes, re-wrap again until next morning then shower and let air dry and apply a little unscented lotion. Basically kept it wrapped up for the first 24 hours. Best healing experience of my life. Zero scabbing, just that super thin "sun burn" peel, and no worrying about sticking to sheets. Now I have significantly less tattoo healing anxiety. photo evidence **warning graphic display of dry skin flakes**:1 point -
You're talking about this with your artist, which is what you should be doing. Soliciting advice from complete strangers on the internet is weird, and quite frankly, if you need to do that you probably shouldn't be getting tattooed anyway.1 point

I've gotten pre-exposure shots which were nothing (my tetanus shot was waaaay worse!), but I've heard the post-exposure is no walk in the park, even with the advancements that have been made in recent years. I should just become one of the rabies lab techs because the brain tissue sample process to me is fascinating.1 point -

Re-wrapping tattoos
blacksandtattoo reacted to briankelly for a topic
everybody has their own way to do this stuff. i've been convinced by much better tattooers than i to wrap it for 3 days. first day, leave the wrap on til morning. wash, let dry, no ointment, re-wrap. leave on until morning. repeat. after the third day, the tattoo is healed on the surface and begins to peal. i found this to be a nice way to deal with my knee and crotch being tattooed, which could have been quite uncomfortable at work. the problem with this method is getting the customer to do it correctly. so i only explain it to ones who i think are smart enough to follow directions and are getting bigger work in uncomfortable spots.1 point -
