I found myself at the Pearl Harbor Gift Shop today where Nikki Lugo put an octopus on my inner bicep. Great job! Awesome tattooer and equally awesome person. She is based in D.C., so if you ever find yourself in the capitol city and want a tattoo - check her out!10 points

Well, I didn't think my hubby was ever going to get any and now he is as into it as I am! I got him to come with me on my 3rd tattoo. Then, he and his old college buddy came with me for my 4th. Our friend and I booked back to back appointments. We were both encouraging @DJDeepFried to get one that day, too. He considered it and brought a reference pic "just in case". He ended up getting his first tattoo that day. It's a small one on his upper right arm. His next tattoo after that was a 1/2 sleeve on his other arm by Kim Saigh. He has plans for more... Yeah! If there is a shred of interest, I think being around it and seeing you get them could rub off on him. My mom says I was a bad influence on dh. I think I was an outstanding influence on him. :D5 points -

With a little luck the pic above will be the mermaid i had done today by Piers Lee who's guesting at Red Hot and Blue tattoo in Edinburgh for the weekend. I'm really pleased with her.. i especially like the placement... its from wrist kinda wrapping to just below the elbow. I love the tattoo and had a really lovely experience. Piers is a really nice guy and took the time to tell me what was going on and what he was planning to do. He took his time with it and i really had fun :)3 points -
Have your tattoos changed your life?
Gloomy Inks and one other reacted to sbhikes for a topic
That sounds a little overly dramatic but I am surprised how my recent tattoos have made such a difference. My first tattoos were gotten in my late 20s. I'm in my late 40s now. Like most people I didn't know much about the differences in quality between tattooers. The tattoos I got were not very good and overall it was a disappointing experience. I went almost 20 years before ever getting another tattoo. I commemorated an achievement with a tattoo about 3 years ago. It was large and prominent which scared the crap out of me. I still haven't told my mother! But during these three years this tattoo has actually made my life better. People stop me on the street to ask about it and it lets me reminisce about the achievement. Because it has been such a positive experience I decided I would cover up my old crummy ones. I recently covered up my shoulder with a nice bird and wow, that has made a difference. When I wear certain shirts, the bird's face peeks out from the neckline. It's fun to shop now with the idea of how to show her off. I have gotten a lot of compliments. A lot of people without tattoos will tell me that they don't like tattoos but they like my bird. I'm currently covering up my ankle with giant blue roses. I was nervous to see how big they would be but so far, even unfinished, they seem to be changing everything. I am no longer ashamed of my ugly old tattoo. If anything my new tattoo improves how I feel about my body. I'm female and big-boned, kind of a weight-lifter body type, and it's a definite difference to feel good about the appearance of my body. I feel more confident and pretty. I kind of feel like I got my leg back. Am I the only one to have this sort of thing happen? P.S. My bird is in my images and the flowers will go there once they are finished.2 points -
Hey all, I've been lurking around LST for the past couple of weeks now, and finally decided to join. I got my first tattoo on Wednesday, and the forum here definitely helped me make up my mind on what I wanted. I ended up going for a pair of traditional style swallows on my foot, and Sharon from Tattoo 13 in Soho did the rest! I uploaded a pic to my profile :) A bit more about me, I was born and raised in Australia (a city called Wollongong, south of Sydney) but moved to London about 8 months ago (thanks to my English parents, I've got myself a shiny new British passport), and am working and enjoying life. That's it for now I suppose...2 points

I can only agree... i'm not a confident person at all and i guess you could say i have low self esteem. I used to look in the mirror and really dislike what i saw but now i look in the mirror and see so many things that make me smile. i feel far more comfortable in this beautiful colourful interesting skin. I've also realised that it's ok to not be like everyone else. So yes, tattoos have changed my life for the better :)2 points -
That's a wonderful idea actually. He does want one day, it's just not a priority like it is for me. hehe I'm dragging him to the convention with a bunch of friends on Sunday. Let's hope he'll be inspired. He has the perfect skin for tattooing, it's a shame if he never gets anything ;)2 points

tatB reacted to Mike Panic for a topic
I've never done it, and it's just that, a method. Essentially, from what I've learned about it, it's waiting 20 minutes after treatment then going over the same area again, then waiting another 20 minutes and doing another treatment. I asked my trainer when learning how to do this and getting certified and he basically told me this: yes, it should work, but your client will be in the office for 90 minutes instead of 15-20, so for a business standpoint it's bad business. More clients per hour = bigger profits. What he said next was more revealing. Lasers don't remove tattoos. They facilitate the body to remove them. Doing multiple passes is supposed to continue the fragmentation of pigment to allow more of it to be carried away by your immune system. The problem with the R20 method, in my personal opinion, is that you're bringing 2-4x the amount of heat into the dermis and causing a larger impact (wound) for the body to heal, not just deal with pigment fragmentation. There's also usually a 2-3x cost increase to do the R20 method. Yes, it may take 6 visits instead of 11 to the office, but you end up paying about the same money. Going through treatments myself, I personally notice more fading between weeks 3-7, and in my case, weeks 12-18 (been a while since my last treatment) they I ever have with a treatment that's between weeks 1-4. It takes the body a while to do its thing, and sometimes time is what you have to give it.1 point -
The best thing about being in a relationship with somebody who is into tattoos is getting psyched about the tattoos they're getting.1 point

Absolutely! First thing I said was "I love my arm better this way". There were a lot of burn scars on there as well from kitchen jobs. I was finally so excited to cover that crap up with positive symbols. I feel more confident but at times the bad looks kinda get to me. Or having to explain to the extended family members *why* I got these designs...which is why I'm keeping the darker art pieces on non-visible areas. Compliments are always appreciated. Makes me feel like I have great taste when it comes to art. :)1 point

Well, if it's weird, I join you in your weirdness. I haven't been tattooed since February and the wait until May 4th feels crazy long! While waiting to continue/finish my left arm I keep finding reference material for an addition to my right arm and things for my back. Oh, and trying to decide which flash to choose from Dobleman's psychedelic stories sheet...and where I will get that and when. The time elapsed between my first and second tattoo was 14 years. Then another 6 years before my third... Now I can't handle 3 months to finish this sleeve I never thought I would be getting in the first place. Life is funny.1 point -

Thanks so much! James Briggs I almost forgot about him. I emailed him like 2 weeks ago actually and haven't received anything back! I really like the look of Kim Saigh's work as well but I'm just not sure if I should pick any good artist or specifically seek out a black/gray work specialist. Thanks @CABS as well. When I saw your post in another topic about Port City I checked out their work it's really good. I'll be shopping around in the next couple weeks and see how to spend this here tax return :cool:1 point -
I used to live in Long Beach, so of course I'm biased. Port City, Dark Horse, Spotlight for starters. If you're willing to trek to Orange County you got Gold Rush, Torch, Sid's. If you're ever in the Valley, you got JoJo Ackerman's spot in Santa Clarita. Tons and tons of options in SoCal.1 point

Walk in style by Wade Hex at Port City Tattoo in Long Beach, CA. I had no idea what I wanted to get. First thing that popped into my head was "geisha lady head". What a stacked crew over at Port City. Vastly underrated. I'd love to get tattooed by anyone at that shop... Eric Jones, Tom Moser, Uzi, Jack Mauk, Renan, Wade Hex... heavy hitters.1 point
