I found myself at the Pearl Harbor Gift Shop today where Nikki Lugo put an octopus on my inner bicep. Great job! Awesome tattooer and equally awesome person. She is based in D.C., so if you ever find yourself in the capitol city and want a tattoo - check her out!10 points

Well, I didn't think my hubby was ever going to get any and now he is as into it as I am! I got him to come with me on my 3rd tattoo. Then, he and his old college buddy came with me for my 4th. Our friend and I booked back to back appointments. We were both encouraging @DJDeepFried to get one that day, too. He considered it and brought a reference pic "just in case". He ended up getting his first tattoo that day. It's a small one on his upper right arm. His next tattoo after that was a 1/2 sleeve on his other arm by Kim Saigh. He has plans for more... Yeah! If there is a shred of interest, I think being around it and seeing you get them could rub off on him. My mom says I was a bad influence on dh. I think I was an outstanding influence on him. :D5 points -

This today. Tattooed by Jimmie Skuse, Les Skuses' grandson. Amazing shop. So much history there. Had a great time chewing the fat with Jimmie. He showed me a load of flash thats been submitted for a book he's working on. - - - Updated - - - That is truly beautiful.4 points

With a little luck the pic above will be the mermaid i had done today by Piers Lee who's guesting at Red Hot and Blue tattoo in Edinburgh for the weekend. I'm really pleased with her.. i especially like the placement... its from wrist kinda wrapping to just below the elbow. I love the tattoo and had a really lovely experience. Piers is a really nice guy and took the time to tell me what was going on and what he was planning to do. He took his time with it and i really had fun :)3 points -
Have your tattoos changed your life?
Gloomy Inks and one other reacted to sbhikes for a topic
That sounds a little overly dramatic but I am surprised how my recent tattoos have made such a difference. My first tattoos were gotten in my late 20s. I'm in my late 40s now. Like most people I didn't know much about the differences in quality between tattooers. The tattoos I got were not very good and overall it was a disappointing experience. I went almost 20 years before ever getting another tattoo. I commemorated an achievement with a tattoo about 3 years ago. It was large and prominent which scared the crap out of me. I still haven't told my mother! But during these three years this tattoo has actually made my life better. People stop me on the street to ask about it and it lets me reminisce about the achievement. Because it has been such a positive experience I decided I would cover up my old crummy ones. I recently covered up my shoulder with a nice bird and wow, that has made a difference. When I wear certain shirts, the bird's face peeks out from the neckline. It's fun to shop now with the idea of how to show her off. I have gotten a lot of compliments. A lot of people without tattoos will tell me that they don't like tattoos but they like my bird. I'm currently covering up my ankle with giant blue roses. I was nervous to see how big they would be but so far, even unfinished, they seem to be changing everything. I am no longer ashamed of my ugly old tattoo. If anything my new tattoo improves how I feel about my body. I'm female and big-boned, kind of a weight-lifter body type, and it's a definite difference to feel good about the appearance of my body. I feel more confident and pretty. I kind of feel like I got my leg back. Am I the only one to have this sort of thing happen? P.S. My bird is in my images and the flowers will go there once they are finished.2 points -
Hey all, I've been lurking around LST for the past couple of weeks now, and finally decided to join. I got my first tattoo on Wednesday, and the forum here definitely helped me make up my mind on what I wanted. I ended up going for a pair of traditional style swallows on my foot, and Sharon from Tattoo 13 in Soho did the rest! I uploaded a pic to my profile :) A bit more about me, I was born and raised in Australia (a city called Wollongong, south of Sydney) but moved to London about 8 months ago (thanks to my English parents, I've got myself a shiny new British passport), and am working and enjoying life. That's it for now I suppose...2 points

I can only agree... i'm not a confident person at all and i guess you could say i have low self esteem. I used to look in the mirror and really dislike what i saw but now i look in the mirror and see so many things that make me smile. i feel far more comfortable in this beautiful colourful interesting skin. I've also realised that it's ok to not be like everyone else. So yes, tattoos have changed my life for the better :)2 points -
That's a wonderful idea actually. He does want one day, it's just not a priority like it is for me. hehe I'm dragging him to the convention with a bunch of friends on Sunday. Let's hope he'll be inspired. He has the perfect skin for tattooing, it's a shame if he never gets anything ;)2 points

Have your tattoos changed your life?

I've heard this same sentiment echoed many times, especially by women. I started getting tattooed the minute (ok, a month or so later) after I turned 18.. without getting too sentimental, I think that in a way it did help me figure myself out, even if for the first four or five, I didn't really know what I was getting in to. I've never had to grapple with any body issues but internally.. it seemed to level me out a bit, if that makes sense. Glad your changing skin is literally changing your life!1 point -
Talk to him about some ideas you think he'd be stoked about, planting the "tattoo seed". Any favorite moments in both of your lives or his that stand out that can be translatable. Not sure otherwise, it's difficult to get somebody who's against it to turn. If he wants to though, just immerse him in it.1 point

Well, if it's weird, I join you in your weirdness. I haven't been tattooed since February and the wait until May 4th feels crazy long! While waiting to continue/finish my left arm I keep finding reference material for an addition to my right arm and things for my back. Oh, and trying to decide which flash to choose from Dobleman's psychedelic stories sheet...and where I will get that and when. The time elapsed between my first and second tattoo was 14 years. Then another 6 years before my third... Now I can't handle 3 months to finish this sleeve I never thought I would be getting in the first place. Life is funny.1 point -

I'm of the same school of thought. My next session at Kings Avenue with Mike Rubendall will be Tuesday May 7th. Then I break for the rest of the Spring and through the Summer. I'll start everything up again with appointments in October and onward. I was tattooed once in late May and it was unseasonably warm already in NYC. Healing and sweating was just not personally fun for me. Plus I have several travel vacations this summer and I prefer to be all healed to enjoy a good swim and also some sun.1 point

I'm always paranoid that if I mention an upcoming tattoo, someone out there will call that shop and cancel my appointment. Weird, yes I know.1 point

I don't know those shops you mentioned (except Broken Art)... but @DJDeepFried and I both go to Memoir Tattoo on Beverly in west LA. We have gotten great work from Kim Saigh & James Spencer Briggs. Shawn Barber & Brendan Rowe are also great, and they get really good guests like Seth Wood. memoir tattoo ©2010 Then there's Unbreakable Tattoo...a lot of good artists there, I'd be interested in getting one from Jim Sylvia. Unbreakable Tattoo - www.tattoounbreakable.com Then there's Dark Horse with Bryan Burk who has an interview you could watch right here on LST. He's amazing. Best Tattoo Artists | Top Tattoo Shops and Parlor in Los Angeles | Dark Horse Tattoo Los Angeles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TujVa9bS6L0 And last one for now: Shamrock Social Club. I have one from Mark Mahoney. It was just a small one before I knew better, but what a great experience. Coolest guy. Shamrock Social Club1 point -

Living in South Florida for 22 years, I pretty much consider myself a native. And like a native, I take it for granted and bitch about how anywhere but here is better. When I moved back a few years ago, I made a promise to me myself to really try and enjoy this humid paradise. So, today I finally visited the historic lighthouse that is only 10 miles from my house. And then it promptly monsooned on us as we got off the boat on our way back ...1 point
