  7. ^This. As a result, I would speculate that the least expensive* way to get your tiny olive colored would be to go back and get another tattoo and have your artist just put some color in it then. *Yeah, that will be even more money out of your pocket than the quote you just got - but hey, a new tattoo!

  10. Meh ... We don't talk prices here. Sounds like you dont want much. Just remember that there's usually a shop minimum flat price that covers an hour (usually?).

  12. I suppose one thing to keep in mind is even though the amount of time they might need to actually tattoo you is short, they still have to setup/breakdown, clean and everything else that would be involved in the longer session. Just something to think about.

I don't mean that you need to hire an interpreter, just that in Montreal most people can speak enough French and English to get by in either language, and I would assume that a tattooer who worked in the US would be able to work well enough in English. Montreal is a great city too so that's another reason to go to Oly Anger.

  18. And ultimately pricing is up to the artist, there's no flat rate that is consistent with all works or artists

  19. Cool I'm not the only one familiar with Mike Adams. I plan on flying out to the east coast and having him do my 2nd sleeve in all black/gray traditional style.

  20. I would love to dry heal. And I usually do this and let it air out with nothing on it the first day, but then I find it starts to crack and get extra dry (and I get scared!!! lol) so I put aquaphor on once a day in the morning after showering. Then lotion very sparingly for comfort--IF it gets itchy once it starts peeling..

  21. I do the same except I apply a small amount of Aveeno once a day after the first day of healing. It's the only method Ive ever used, but it has work well so far.

  27. I might have stated this before but in my opinion there is a big difference between a snob and someone who knows what is good and wants the best. I'm into cigars and in that world there are tons of snobs. You can pick them out since all they do is talk about the most expensive or in style brands and think the lesser know or cheaper and worse. Same goes for anything else, tattoos included. I also stand by there is a time to be polite but also there is a time to not reinforce bad behaviors. If people keep telling the wearers of shit tattoos that they are good, they will never look elsewhere.

  37. Genie of the west-- You say that your tattoos raise up where your skin is the darkest, I think this may be because this is the part of your body that is exposed to the sun more often- perhaps? Over the years I have seen my own tattoos, as well as many of my clients tattoos raise up- could be the heat, the sun, irritation etc. But there are specific concerns when tattooing very dark skin.So you are not being paranoid. The tattoo does not lay on top of your skin, but below it- so the appearance of your tattoo is directly related to the color of your skin. Imagine any tattoo on a pale leg, then think of that tattoo with a tan stocking over it,coffee colored, brown and then finally black. It is the same with a tattoo, first applied and then when the skin grows over it. Unfortunately some tattooers make the mistake of applying lighter pigments to darker skin tones. Very often when the tattoo heals it is barely visible. Also many darker skin tones, of all types, are prone to keloid scarring. The formation of raised excessive scarring. My advice to anyone with very, very dark skin is to choose larger, more open, simplified designs with strong bold outlines vs. detailed, convoluted over shaded designs. Good luck

  46. I wanted to address the forum as to not let speculation get to out of hand. I am actually amazed that anyone is concerned about me leaving Chicago Tattoo and the amount of support and well wishes i have received is very humbling. I want to thank everyone for reaching out. I spent ALOT of time at CTC ALOT! from the first time I walked in at 15 with Erik Gillespie and was promptly told to leave to the last 18years (almost half my life) I have been in awe of that place. In awe of the history, the stories, the people, the friends, the tattooing, the flash, the neighborhood. Everything was just amazing to me. I always wanted to be there. Always. I treated it as my own and most people didn't even think otherwise. I have met some of my dearest fiends through there and through tattooing and I owe a lot of gratitude to the institution that I believe I helped build and to the owner Dale Grande. Like all people my needs started to change, my family started to grow and my career really started to get in a great groove. It seemed like the hardwork I had put it was paying off but there where issues that needed to be addressed at the shop that couldn't be resolved. I've sat on this decision for quite some time actually over a couple years. I've done a lot of soul searching and confided in my closest colleagues and friends and especially my wife on what to do and I came to the decision to leave Chicago Tattoo. I wanted to move on still in love with tattooing still in awe of the history and still amazed at 18 years of amazing times some great some not so great. I have a lot of things in the works. Nothing to crazy or unexpected but I can say that I will continue to stay to true to tattooing and what got me to where I am without tattooing I couldn't say where I'd be.

    Our bad tattoos

A few years ago my brother bought a tattoo kit from china for $150 australian (really super good quality....) so I tattooed this above my knee , and we tattooed a few friends. After two days the power supply broke and safe to say I never touched a machine again hahah I'll leave it to the professionals.

  48. First of all, the guy takes me in early for my appointment. WTF? Then he has the nerve to have my tattoo already drawn up and looking perfect. The SOB even takes the time to work with me on size and placement. While he's tattooing me, he has a great conversation with my wife and treats her super nicely. Fucking unbelievable. He takes his time and gives me a gorgeous new tattoo, all the while acting like a consummate professional. Something has to be done about this guy. He's too nice, too professional, and too damn good.
