    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

Grime put it on Instagram so I figured it'd be cool to post here. The ass section of my back... He said he wanted to wait to shade the center of the flower until he sees what other colors are used on the rest of the tattoo. Who am I to question? :D

  6. I shouldn't be allowed outside without a chaperone. My girlfriend and I went out for lunch this afternoon. Since we were right around the corner from The Pearl in Toronto I decided to stop in and say hello. Just a few moments before we got there Tim Pausinger had a couple of last minutes cancellations. Perfect timing! I had a few ideas on my phone and after brief discussion Tim drew up a design and got to work. I had a tattoo done last week that was healing nicely and so I figured what the hell. Let's do it. I've got another appointment on Friday, another on the 18th and two in April. I think I'll take a wee break at that point before beginning the work on my chest.

I've gotta admit, I never noticed the lack of black women in flash/tattoos before. I feel kinda stupid now. Done by Dusty Neal (more info at THE STATIC AGE, I started thinking one day how I )

    Checkin' in from Texas...

Welcome to LST! Lots and lots of great artists in Austin and Houston. My top recommendation for traditional would be Rock of Ages in Austin. You can't go wrong there.

  13. Effective immediately, due to a major ink shortage caused by @else the price of ink will be increasing dramatically on the limited quantity that is left. The now rare tattoo ink will be more expensive per ounce than Rhodium.

  20. A guaranteed way to tell if your artist is excited about your tattoo is to ask them to tattoo some one else's flash . I got a Mike Malone piece from Ian Flower and he said " I'll even tattoo it with my Malone machine for no extra charge " ha ha.

    Any gun owners out there?

Very true, but at the speeds it runs, and in the close-quarters typically found in self-defense situations, hollow-points consistently fail to expand, whether because they are through the mass before they can, or because-and this is more common-they are clogged with textiles before they can. I would never tell someone NOT to use a 9, it's strictly a personal preference thing. I saw a friend of mine take a 9mm Super-Vel sjhp centerpunchin the belly from about three feet. He doubled-up, ran down a flight of stairs, across two front yards, up two flights of stairs, and blew away the shooter with the .357 he recovered from his room. That kinda soured me on them. Saw some similar things over the years that reinforced that feeling, but again, it's strictly a matter of personal preference.

  25. Normally I have to carry cash at least a hundred in NYC since it seems a lot of the places I frequent don't take card (aka 10 minimum at the bagel shop). Getting tattooed I usually withdraw a few hundred right before I walk in. Nothing feels worse than walking around with a stack of 20s

  28. I mean zero disrespect to your Pops, but if he disliked the fact that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, would you too dislike that? Again, I don't mean to start a forum war here, but when you say these things, it just sounds silly. I'm willing to bet a crisp dollar bill that your Pops and everyone he worked with for all 30 of those years on the Highway Patrol never shot more rounds while on duty than is held in one standard 1911 magazine. 9mm is ammo, you don't shoot it, it a projectile that leaves a weapon you're firing. There's a reason so many people opt to get a .22 conversion for their 9, .40 or .45 pistol, or buy the .22 equivalent to it such as a Walther p22, or even a Ruger Mark II/45. They do it because they want to be proficient with muscle memory and trigger feel, without the wrist-snapping that is commonly associated with shooting 2-300 rounds at a time out of the larger calibers. If the weapon you choose to carry is comfortable, you can draw and accurately fire, and then reholster it safely, then it's the right gun for you. For me personally, I have yet to find a weapon larger than 9mm that I can carry year round IWB without printing that I can consistently draw from. The 9mm I did own was a Kel-Tec P11, perhaps one of the most poorly manufactured guns I've ever owned and I'm glad I no longer own it. Again, you pick the round that's accurate for your ultimate goals and that you are most comfortable with. This fight has happened hundreds of times on the web, there is countless ballistics tests and scientific info that you can find an accurate answer about penetrating size, depth, muzzle velocity, and so on. As I said earlier, the best camera is the one you have with you.

  29. A good friend of mine moved to Toronto, and he lives close by Pearl Harbour. He made an appointment with Nick Collela for his next visit, and he is probably going to get tattooed by Tim sometime soon. I imagine that he will be spending a lot of time at that shop.

  33. Thanks guys. I knew I really wanted to get tattooed by Matt and was up in the air with a few options. I pitched him a spider and a scorpion, and he went with what he knew. I couldnt be happier. It was a good experience. Also he asked me if i wanted to enter the contests they were having so I said sure. Ended up winning Best in Show and sending him back to Seattle with a big ass skull for winning.

  37. Not every piece you do is one you will be super excited about. But just because the piece might not be your particular favorite does not change the fact that every client deserves the best possible tattoo you can give them. I find that if I have a piece I am not thrilled about I get feedback from my staff and brainstorm as to how I can do something different with the tattoo while still meeting the guidelines my client has given me. If I do some homework generally I can find a way to make the design something I can get excited about. If an artist truly does not want to do the tattoo then perhaps he or she can share the work with another artist in his or her shop? As a professional it is best to not let your lack of enthusiasm show, however I do not think that this means that artists are any less genuine in their efforts to serve a clients particular needs.

Here's mine (slurped off of Steve Byrne's instagram) The knee was way less painful than I expected it to be... there were a couple spots that really made me wince but otherwise it was pretty easy.

    Full Back Piece Thread

After 14 sessions spanning 15 months, I'm thrilled to say that my back piece--courtesy of Jay Cavna--is finished. It's a rooster/boar/snake battle royale with peonies. We just wrapped it up a few hours ago. I couldn't be happier with it and am blown away by Jay's skill and commitment to his work. Here's the pic.
