Rad thread, thanks for starting it @Delicious ! I never knew there were so many awesome beards here. It's funny to see how different some people look to how I imagined them (or, conversely, how similar). Anywho, here's me being all Cheesecake recently in celebration of losing 10kg/getting more tattooed.

  9. I had to join the site to thank you for this thread. I have been trying to decide for some time where & what size to get my first tattoo. I'm old, fat, & not especially attractive. I've been wanting a tattoo for a long time, and have known for a while what it is I want. But, the size and placement has held me back. I have been thinking of getting it small, worrying about what people would think. Which is really ridiculous. I don't worry about what people think of me, as Popeye would say, "I am what I am". Thanks for helping reinforce the decision that was in the back of my head the whole time.

  12. 1stly, your reason for getting a tattoo is not that unusual. Go for it. Good that you're doing plenty of research. I'm not personally a real fan of most tribal, but at least Pascal in that particular shop seems to be doing better than average. A picture of the actual mark and scars would help the tattooists here make an opinion of how hard this might be. Lastly, don't worry about "not being creative". That's part of what a good artist is being paid to do. Go with your ideas, references and deposit and discuss what you want in detail. He will draw something up and you two can tweak it if/as needed.

  19. I'm glad you feel that way. I'm 39 and just got my first tattoo almost 2 months ago. I'm overweight as well. Who cares what anybody else thinks about how you look or your body size. If you have an idea for a nice tattoo, go for it I say.

  20. i have to start by saying what should be the obvious. tattoos are a very personal thing. you also have to remember that the choices people make in general are very personal things. so when you advise people adversely to there initial feelings it will be met with disdain. people will certainly get insulted when you tell them the choice they made or are about to make is a bad one. cause they in fact see it as an attack. so if you offer your unsolicited opinion you should expect it to be met with minor hostilities. this will also bring me to make this statement. ive been around for a good while so ive seen plenty cause im a good observer. there indeed is a huge amount of snobbery surrounding tattooing. ive seen great tattooers get overlooked cause the masses are obsessed with a few individuals. not that those few individuals dont deserve the recognition cause they certainly do but others certainly get over looked just because theyve never been heard of. and that dismissal is certainly due to snobbery, you can see it in the faces of the dismissers. anyway like many other things ive commented on i can go on for days but il stop here for now.

  22. I had 3 problems: 1. too much money 2. no planned tattoo untill May 3. was feeling low this friday Now I came up with one solution to this and got me booked in for a 4 hour session with Iain Mullen @ Imperial Tattoo in Stockholm in less than 2 weeks from now :) At first I wanted to talk to him about putting in a tiny filler pocket watch next to the elbow piece he did on me. It ended up with that and a hand holding a skull on my lower calf AND doing the lines for a major Judas-portrait (praying to god, wearing a devil mask, in a rain of gold coins and so on..) on the side of my tigh. Good times ahead, super stoked!

  24. I quit my job and moved to the other side of town. Big, scary changes, but I figure before my health gets any worse I may as well "seize the day" and start doing stuff I wanna do. So far, it sure beats answering phones (lessened income aside :P )!

  25. @else you are on an unstoppable run. I want to be you when I grow up. I had a session the other day hoping to finish my dragon head, but my body was not cooperating, had a big nosebleed early in day and couldn't stop bleeding while getting tattooed. I have been a bleeder before, but never like this. So long story short I have to come back and do a few spots and possibly some touch up on last session.

    Upcoming Tattoos

I currently have a three quarter sleeve in progress, from Mo Coppoletta at The Family Business in London, it is Japanese style with koi and autumnal Japanese Maple leaves. So far I have had four three hour sessions, all the outline and black shading is complete, I have two further sessions booked up (one mid March and one in early April) to complete the colour work. There are a few pictures which were taken after the second session on another thread: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/general-tattoo-discussion/15-latest-tattoo-lowdown-page297.html#post57495 In time I think I would like my other arm to have a design made up of several palm sized traditional western style images, loosely themed around exploration/travel, filled in with roses or grapevines along with few small fillers. My first thought towards this would be a lady head in the style of a twenties female aviator (along the lines of Amelia Earhart or Amy Johnson), if I go with this idea I will probably go to Valerie Vargas. I am also thinking about a cheetah head on one of my knees, surrounded by pike lettering which reads "heart full of napalm" (a references to a Stooges lyric). And, and, and, the list is endless.

    Art Tattoo Montreal 2013

It's September 6-8 this year at the Gare Windsor, so it's maybe a bit early to make a post about it, but they have been announcing some of the artists who will be attending and it's a really solid lineup as usual. Who is planning on going? Are you planning on getting tattooed, and if so, who by? Does anybody want to meet up at some point that weekend? I am planning on getting tattooed but haven't tried booking with anybody yet. It's probably still too early and I wouldn't talk about it on here anyway until I have an appointment set up. I know there are a few of us on here who have gotten some really great tattoos at this convention and hopefully this year's edition will bring more great tattoos. The website for the convention is here: Art Tatoo Show Montreal And they have an instagram this year with links to the IGs of the attending tattooers, as well as some photos from past conventions: arttattoomontreal

    where did the tattooers go?

I haven't been doing much lately other than work and wedding plan (next week's the big day!) I have found time to get tattooed ( thigh panel by Scott Ellis) but the process has been moving slowly because I wanted to be healed for the honeymoon (beaches and diving and stuff). I'll be back in full post mode in a few. I know this is titled "where did the tattooers go?" not "where did the postaholics go?", but someone mentioned non-tattooers so I thought I'd chime in since I was around;)

  40. Got this from Tomas Garcia at Sid's in Santa Ana, CA. He has a special book of line drawings that he'd love to do. I had trouble deciding between two designs in particular, so he took both designs and made it into one. It was definitely a great experience over at Sid's. The entire crew is extremely hospitable. Very down to earth crew. I'm a fan for life. Tomas even drew up some hand made lettering for me too.

  41. Often I end up spending more time dealing with customers than the person tattooing them up until the day of their appoinment, one time I wasn't there the day someone was getting tattooed and they asked where i was. My boss told him I was getting tattooed across town. He responded by asking him why I didn't want him to tattoo me and wondered if my boss was cool with that he said, I already tattooed him this week and like 50 other times. He told me as long as I don't get tattooed by hacks he doesnt mind. I can relate to feeling weird, there is one shop that one guy always bugs me about getting more tattoos from him, but I really want to get tattooed by the other guys he works with and don't have that much space, so to avoid that scenario I don't get tattooed there, or i guess I have to wait till he is guest spotting somewhere. Most tattooers aren't like that though.
