Haha...evidentally it wasn't that difficult. I have not been able to find any old folktales or storys about Joroguma. I just love the image and idea. I think it is going to make a really sweet pice. We are trying to get a large hairy ass spider on the stomach and show it turning into a woman on the chest. I kind of want to woman to be representative of a more ghostly yokai look.3 points -

@BAM773 What kind of tattoos do you like? If you are from Cinci, I recommend contacting Kore Flatmo at PluraBella. I am currently being tattooed by him, as are four or five people on these boards. He does incredible work and you NEED to be tattooed by him.2 points -

Greetings, all. Been a browser here for a while. I finally got my first tattoo (age 37) a few days ago, so I thought I'd introduce myself and share some pictures (I'm guessing the Latest Lowdown thread is the place to do it). A little more about me? Sure. I grew up in NYC (Staten Island, to be precise) and now I live out in the woods here in Long Valley, NJ. I'm a computer programmer by trade, beer brewer by passion. I'm hoping this year to make that passion a job, which was one reason I finally got the tattoo I've always wanted. Cheers! -Joe1 point -

So, you are going to be by riverside, oltorf, and Woodward. You will be in an area that has a lot of Mexican food! Taking a cab from there is going to be costly. I would see if the dillo is running if you are going to go downtown. I would suggest not to hang around your hotel at night! It is not a bad area just a lot of college kids and a lot of traffic. I lived over there for 2 years and cars get broken into. Emos is on riverside. Where to eat before your tattoo depends on what you like to eat. Closest places are gordos, Maria's taco express. Barton springs rd is a few mins maybe 4 or 5 in a car because of traffic, has Shady Grove, Baby a's, uncle Billy's, and p. Terry's. on congress and oltorf is Lucy's. I love there fried chicken! Gueros is on congress and a pizza place that I can not think of its name right now. I would suggest food trucks on congress. I eat at the Cajun one and my wife like coat and Thai. Threadgills is a cool Austin place. Southern style food. I would suggest a rental car for the day of your appt though. 20 or 30 bucks and you can explore and you would pay that just going to and from your appt!1 point

Brock Varty reacted to reverend1 for a topic
I contacted them in July and my first appointment was on Oct 26. It was harder for me to get in because we had to find times that Kore and Brenda both had openings. My wife was getting tattooed by Brenda at the same time. I just finished my first project with him last week and I'm already heading back in April to start the next one. If you like what Kore does, I would not miss a chance to work with him. As great as he is as a tattooer, he's even a better person. You will know what I mean when you meet him. BTW there is an interview with him here on the site if you want to get an idea what he is all about.1 point -

I want something Lovecraftian, not necessarily tenticular, but maybe more in a Clark Ashton Smith or even Thomas Ligotti direction...you know dark energies and shit. I figure that might be enough suggestion right there to get something fucking wild.1 point -

Nothing wrong with your posts being authentic. If people here are so soft they can't handle that, then this might not be the right forum for them.1 point

Can someone help me design my sleeve? But seriously, I only allow my self time to skim the topics in the new post section. If nothing grabs my eye I move on to illegal downloads and Mighty Boosh clips on youtube. Unfortunately most of what I found interesting were the posts by other tattooers, people who I know and or respect. Im really not interested inwhat people are planning on getting tattooed unless its from me. I do like seeing photos so the panthers, snakes and Rock of Ages type posts usually get a look. I will continue to stop by and check things out and hopefully chime in when appropriate. Till then....1 point -

Military tattoo regulations
Shannon Shirley reacted to David Flores for a topic
Recently some young guy came in with a brown pride tattoo and needed it covered up for Army. Whoever he spoke to at the Army told him he couldn't get a big tattoo, he had to try to cover it with two smaller tattoos. It turned out okay he has a panther covering one word and an eagle covering the other. The only thing that looks odd to me is having the tattoos right next to each other. If you choose to only get 2 tattoos, usually you don't cram them in one spot. Would have been nice to do just a big panther. Getting a Chris Trevino tattoo sounds like a much better idea than joining the Navy.1 point -
Lower leg tattoo
dari reacted to Stewart Robson for a topic
I'd like to say that my comments here are regarding larger work i.e. pretty solid, usually japanese or tribal style tattooing. My lower legs heal MUCH slower than the rest of me. Sometimes twice as slow. a 2 week heal turns into a month! This gets slower and worse as sessions go on. Especially of you have to stand most of the day. Generally, like Valerie said, Drinking lots of water helps. Also, having a poor sleep pattern slows large healing for me too. To me it sounds pretty normal for weekly sessions to give you so much trouble. I think one of the most unpleasant parts is when you shift from laying down or sitting into a standing position. That whooooosh! feeling when it seems like all of the blood in your body rushes to your lower leg and the skin feels super tight is horrible. Good luck.1 point -

notice that i used the word "collector", not client. i get how embarrasing it would be to have somone off the street come up to your shop, look through a portfolio, and say "sweet tats bro!" (and annoying). i get it, but at the same time, as discussed in other threads, that is someone who is probably (and this is an assumption) not getting tattooed for the "cool" factor or because it's what people are doing right now, not because they have a deeper attachment or interest in the community, art, or culture itself. while i don't think a serious collector would use some of the words listed above (though some appear to be catching on now), collectors are more interested in these other aspects of tattooing and therefore, have an investment in the community.1 point

Charity ideas
Mark Bee reacted to Gia Dobson for a topic
So, we collected 214 coats this week. Our goal was 100, so doubling that was way super awesome. The shelter was very very grateful to receive them and said that no one had donated to them yet this season. Not bad for a town with a population of around 15,000. Here's a couple photos of us counting and sorting: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=180224041993494&set=a.180223958660169.49063.148834055132493#!/album.php?aid=49063&id=148834055132493 This was SO SIMPLE to do and so rewarding.1 point
