  4. Stephanie lined the rest of my Quetzalcoatl dragon at Saved yesterday. Stoked because it's an awesome, huge tattoo, and now half my squidpants are done. It's maybe also a little bittersweet because I'm officially running out of real estate now. Cannot wait for warmer weather and shorts season!

  5. Probably not a very good idea to give out the address of a place selling tattoo supplies. The cat is out of the bag with this one anyway...there was that guy who started an intro thread a week or so ago saying that he bought a "starter kit" on Amazon so shit is easily available to anybody who wants it. Scratchers bother me but I think the best way of dealing with them, at least in the context of this forum, is to promote the art and the craft of good tattooing and to show people that if they're willing to put the time, money, and effort into it, that anybody can get truly great tattoos, and that great tattoos are absolutely worth it.

  7. I started on here about a year and a half ago, I would not like to see this site crumble. It seems to me that lately, less and less knowledgable people are commenting, posting etc. It also seems that thier are more lurkers with "I know some shit" attitudes. those that fit this profile should understand that you are ruining this site. This site was started in hope of an intelligent place where some could learn about the nuances of this craft. Stating amateur attitudes on here does not help.Having gotten three tattoos does not make you an authority.

  11. im newish with a rising post count, so i hope im not a suspect here. im just here to browse and not really post in the tattoo subjects where people know way more than me, share about my laser experience, share random other shit in subforums, and then get some damn good art work going. i understand that the tattoo world, just like everything else in life, is a give/give culture. ive learned more in just the few months that ive been here than a lifetime of reading magazines or talking to people on the street. im greatful for that. but i agree about the artists not being on here kind of sucks. when i got here i was learning a lot from guys like stewert and mario.

Picture from Kore Flatmo's Facebook of our progress this week! Such an amazing experience, I'd recommend PluraBella to anyone and everyone here! Here's one I took to show how it matches up with my Kurt Wiscombe piece. I'm so pumped!

    Back of neck tattoos.

While I only really have experience in the über-corporate world I will say that in the environments I work in unless you were military most people do a double-take when they see tattoos in the workplace. Even then people make remarks behind their backs, which can and will effect your advancement somewhere along the line. I know people that have jumped careers (hell my mom went from framer to illustrator to High School teacher) so you never know. If you are younger (sub-35) I would suggest against it but everyone has to look at it themselves. I'm keeping anything above the collar and below the wrists for my retirement present.

    Back of neck tattoos.

I have a tiny-ass tattoo on the back of my neck--it shows all the time because I have short hair (when I got it I had hair down to my ass of course) but nobody has ever treated it like a big deal, though it does generate more stupid questions than anything else I've got. My fault for getting something in a foreign alphabet. It seems more on the level of a little wrist tattoo than something more in your face like the side of the neck. It might be different if you have the WHOLE of the back of your neck covered, but if people are gonna stare at me like a three-headed peacock, it's never because of that one.

    Curious...

not creepy! i love them! i got them through a company called SEE and apparently they make really expensive glasses based on vintage designs, but i bought a groupon for $250.00 towards a pair, so it wasn't so bad. they make their styles in limited edition runs though, so unfortunately, i don't think they have them now. i almost broke them skateboarding last fall, but thankfully they survived.

  27. I am guessing she got the bird fourth pic down, of the recent pics that would fit @else best, because of the color scheme and it's not a tattoo on a guy's chest like many of the others. That skull in the first pic, tough.

  28. So how did you ascertain that they would sell supplies to anyone? Did you try to buy something? I guess it's not really that important what they do, but I know a few tattoo supply companies that also operate shops and keep inventory on hand for tattooers that stop by. It's not that hard for me to believe that people are dumb enough to sell supplies to general public, but at the same time it is.

  29. Vegan Tattoo Education: Vegan Aftercare Products Their is a list of vegan aftercare products here, I can't speak of the effectivness, but maybe some forum members that have used them can. I still think calling a tattoo reputable tattoo shop like scapegoat that markets themselves to vegan tattoo customers might be worth a try. But I also didn't think about the customer having laser work done.

    A nice story!

Righteous work. Now all he needs to do is go back to the first place, bust up all his equipment, and do the roadhouse hop on the tattooers head.

  32. I thought I'd post a few pics before and after my first treatment, the results so far have been quite better than what I expected although I suppose the fading will not be as significant as the treatments progress but so far it's looking pretty good. This is the original tattoo, you can notice at the bottom the patch test which I had a week before taking this pic: This is two days after the first treatment: This is one week after the first treatment: Sorry about the difference in the lighting, I hope you can still get an idea of how much has faded.

  35. @Mike Panic 99% Aloe Vera gel is great while healing lazer. Cools and soothes apparently. Which helps with blistering too. You can lay it on thick and re-wrap or just use it regularly throughout the day.

Tony Nilsson at Blue Arms Tattoo in Oslo, Norway is doing incredible girl heads in my opinion. I just recently started paying attention to his work and it is very solid. I would definitely love to get a tattoo from this guy.

  40. Pictures to follow but I had a great session with Thomas Hooper today and my sleeve is nearly lined. On my forearm there's a nautilus shell with an almost acanthus leaf-like pattern in it (Haeckel's Art Forms In Nature has a shell like this in it) amidst Japanese water with water cascading over it. On the inside of my arm is a Haeckel-inspired mandala and next session we'll cap off my shoulder with an atmospheric mandala with flames and clouds. Really kind of amazed at it and feel so fortunate to have a tattoo so beautiful.

    Back of neck tattoos.

I'm a signwriter by trade. I do know people change careers and I'm still fairly young. I dont have a problem with visible tattoos as I have both arms from wrist to shoulder tattooed and one leg, I wear t-shirts most days. But the face, side of the neck, throat etc seems to me, to be a bit more intense than other visible tattoos. I personally dont have a problem getting the back of my neck done, I was just wondering what other people stigmas are for it. A good option maybe to take a collared shirt with me and draw a line where the collar sits and keeping it below that.
    1 point
  42. While I agree with this, I think the stigma for a tattoo that is on the back of the neck would be less than on the front. If people can't see it in face-to-face interactions with you I wouldn't think there would be as much of a problem. Also @ShaneRealz, on the back of the neck you also have the option of wearing a collared shirt, and if that's not quite enough, wearing said shirt with the collar popped. Unless of course wearing your collar popped will subject you to more prejudice than the tattoo itself....

  43. Totally. That's a super good idea that I hadn't considered at all. I'll look into Kickstarter and all of those various other sites that for sure. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

  44. I think if someone is going to view visible tattoos in anegative way, the back of the neck will not be any different than anywhere else visible.

  46. A big THANK YOU to those who liked what i had to say and mentioned me in this thread! I would love to see this in print too...I really enjoy being able to look through a magazine if it is worth looking through! There are bound to be bugs and glitches....and grammatical errors and such BUT I really love what they are trying to do! I didn't want to say too much in the Tattoo Collector Magazine thread but i think most got the "hint" LOL Support this please! tattooists actually taking the initiative to educate the public....it has been missing from the community other than places like this site and maybe a few others!

  49. I was just watching the rough Josh Arment video interview yesterday by Cody Miller and I think he has some really good points on lettering and script. Maybe they will fuel more to this conversation once we post them. I love lettering and have for many many years so thought I would include a picture of my collar with script lettering done by Freddy Corbin many years ago at Temple Tattoo around when it first opened. The brief story goes like this: Freddy grabs a red marker and makes some freehand lines on my collarbone for what I'm guessing a straight-line ruler (which isn't very straight from broken bones) but makes it look straight. Then just starts writing away on my collar with the pen like a piece of paper and I shit you not less than a minute later tells me to go check it out.
