  10. I was a cardio junkie for 25 years - 1 hour per day 5-7 days per week doing either the Elliptical or Spinning. Weight wise I was fine - 5'10.5", 162lbs pretty much for the past decade. Then in Apr 2012 I won a Facebook contest - got the Beachbody (makers of P90X and Insanity) program RevAbs signed by Brett Hoebel (was a Biggest Loser trainer for a year) and a Skype session with Brett. Totally changed me. In 90 days of RevAbs I took off 10+ lbs and 1.5" off the waist, and really got some good lean muscle. My core is strong. Since then, I've stuck with Beachbody programs, doing Les Mills Pump, then another round of RevAbs (different calendar), and currently doing Les Mills Combat. On deck is P90X. At 52 years old I'm in the best shape of my life, and back in Oct 2012 I kind of got proof of the benefits of my fitness. I ran a Spartan Sprint (obstacle course) race inside Fenway Park in Boston. Did obstacles like carrying a 60lb sandbag on my shoulders climbing up and down the bleachers, raised a 150lb cement block to the rafters, plenty of burpees, carry (2) 30lb water jugs down and up a long flight of stairs in the stadium, etc. Out of 3,060 competitors, mostly in the 20's to lower 30's age group, I placed 348th overall, and 4th in my age group (50-54), and without event specific training. I get a good mix of lean muscle strength training (lower weight, higher reps) and HIIT cardio with the Beachbody programs, and they work for me. Plus, once a day I have a meal replacement shake (Shakeology) mixed with fruit, peanut butter, etc, and that aids me in keeping constant with weight and overall fitness. In a way it's too bad, because I have some really nice home gym equipment that cost a lot of money that isn't getting much use these days. A Hoist V5 single stack weight machine, a Nordic Trac x-country skier, and Trimline treadmill, a spin bike, and a Life Fitness Elliptical. Now I use the DVD programs along with various dumbbell weights. Works for me.

Hi and welcome. There's only so much we can tell you here about what you can do with that tattoo, your best bet is to find a good tattoo artist and talk to him or her about it. Where do you live so that we can suggest good people in your area?

  15. cool, thanks for the info @Lance and @sarapressey. She's a pretty good kid, that is, unless she's bored. We don't need her seeing pole dancers...but we would just avoid that area. She does love tattooed rockabilly chicks. I'll think about it.

  16. I'd imagine you would have to go to a shot tattoo shop for a blacklight tattoo to even be considered by the tattooer, and at that point you are probably going to be getting a bad tattoo from a terrible tattooer as well. It's a double edge sword. I feel kind of awful for even contributing to this thread. I need to get out of here now. Going to the "Latest tattoo lowdown..." to feel better about life.

  25. Finished this today (figure it's about time to start contributing more here) The reason one side is b/g and the other is color is that my right arm is almost all color traditional (soon to be finished) and the left I'm planning on keeping mostly b/g, so this will tie them together. Also we left the center of the chest mostly untouched in this, because I have to have heart surgery in the next few years and may have to be cut open there, depending on how they do it. Artist is Freehand Robert, at Your Moms Favorite Tattoo Parlor, Sheridan WY Edit: sorry, having troubles uploading the photo, one sec.

    Stigmas?

There is an irony in people thinking you are a "broke low life" because of your tattoos, due to that fact that people with nice tattoos are usually spending hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars to get tattooed, but this isn't understood by the general public. In terms of the majority of my friends and people I know with tattoos they live a life where they work hard and have the means to pay bills, provide for a family, put food on the table, then are able to afford the luxury of getting tattooed. Obviously there are exceptions to this view point, but it is especially true in the case of the people on this site that are paying top dollar to travel and get work done by world class tattooers. This is something that a good amount of people who are judging you wouldn't be able to afford, but people are ignorant and refuse to take the time to educate themselves.

  31. Does she like cars and burlesque pole dancing? Ha ha! The only part I think is 18+ might be the latter. At least from what I've seen. Is she a well behaved 5 year old and interested in pictures and shiny fenders and custom pin striping? If so she might be able to hang. I went with a 38 year old adult who couldn't and I had too leave after about 2 hours because they were bored and whining like a 2 year old. Personally even I get overwhelmed at this convention though. It can be a little over stimulating on the eyes for me as there is so much going on. I don't know if there's really a kids outlet there. There's been a couple spots though that I've glossed over and didn't pay much attention too. Hope this helps a wee bit.

  35. Maker's MArk got hit the same as most other companies making bourbon, by an unexpected, radical increase in bourbon consumption. There are something like 116 premium bourbons out there now, and more being drunk than ever before. According to the guy making the projections for MM, they got so radically oversold that it was just a question of trying to satisfy most, if not all, of their market. But it sucks. Never really thought of MM as "premium" bourbon when I drank, I'd just as lief have Old Granddad-at least you were getting an honest glass that way.

  38. attacked by a redneck at a greyhound station who was bugging out off of meth or pcp or someshit. that part wasnt awsome. but the fact that he couldnt connect any of his punches with me and that the cops came, found a bunch of dope on him, and emt strapped him down to a stretcher was. i couldnt make out why he wanted to fight, i think something about me not being welcome in texas or someshit.

  39. As stated in another thread, babysat our grandson for 12 days that just ended 2 days ago - that counts as awesome to me. In the past two years (I think that counts as recent), other than getting my first 2 tattoos, I went skydiving in San Antonio, zip lining in Jamaica, hiked the knifes edge of Mt Katahdin in ME, went to Hawaii to visit my daughter who is a nurse in the Army, raised almost $8,000 for pancreatic cancer research in memory of my wifes mother and sister who both died from the disease, purchased a sweet 12' travel trailer and started camping with my wife (something we both did growing up). That's my short list of recent awesome things I've done (at least awesome to me :) )

  40. Finished this awesome stained glass window panel for my commode (lol). It's my second piece I've ever done. Not the best photos to show it off since the light outside isn't too bright but you get the idea: Inspired by an Indian rug Started stained glass after my mom passed away a four months back. It's been nice to have something creative to sink my teeth into. - Lori

    Stigmas?

Just saw this thread.. I'll share two quick experiences. The first, my lady and I tried a restaurant in the neighborhood we'd never been to. Our area is half young white kids, half old school Italian/families. This restaurant was an Italian spot and not one we knew anything about, just figured we'd try it. We sit down and our waiter had a pretty bad 'tude.. wasn't looking at us when we ordered drinks, came back for the food order and that was that. He ran the food and barely said a word to us. This was summertime, and we both had on short sleeves but in New York you don't even think twice about visible tattoos.. it's only when you go somewhere else (like when I go home to rural MD) when you notice people kind of staring. Anyway, a couple sat down next to us, kind of yuppie, dressed in khakis or whatever, not tattooed. Our waiter comes back out and gives them a whole introduction, talks about the specials, makes jokes and is all smiles, talking with hands and being the kind of affable that feels like he's making a point. Then he brings them bread! We were amazed.. We got no specials, no bread, no water refills... we flagged him down to get the check and our only conclusion was that he saw us and instantly figured we'd be bad customers.. so we were sure to actually leave a good tip. Still don't know what the deal was but we never went back. Second, is I was recently in small claims court and it was one of the few times I thought to myself, Man, am I glad I don't have any hand/neck tattoos. You can't control other peoples' snap judgments.. and when that person is a judge (ok, arbitrator) it seemed in my benefit to look as "normal" as possible. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to seriously consider some Everlasting Jobstopper tattoos... but for now, I just want bread and water refills like the rest of society.
