  1. I don't think I posted this new one I picked up from Greg Christian at Chris Nuñez's new shop, Handcrafted Miami just after New Years: Super excited for South Florida to have this new shop, which is beautiful. They're bringing in a lot of big name guys, which we don't often get here. Chad Koeplinger visited a few weeks after I got the moth and I was kicking myself for not having the budget to get something. But, I did book in with Heath Nock for June. (Holy shit that is a long ways away!) Getting a gator head with a Florida banner.

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

This is healed up enough to get a reasonable picture of it, so here's the progress on my arm so far. We're about six hours in right now, and my next sitting is in a week and a half. Thomas Hooper did this. Obviously.

  4. Hey guys, I just joined the forum and figured I'd kick things off by posting my in progress back piece. Jason Kundell is doing the work, though things have slowed a bit since he moved from SF to Portland. Hope to wrap things up in the next year and then it's time to get back into shape!

Getting tattooed by Ron Henry Wells today. Insanely excited. I THINK the partially drawn wolf head he put on IG this morning (part of a larger Pic Stitch-ed picture) is for me. We'll see. I also got a really gnarly reaper from Rich Smith from Thicker Than Water yesterday--once I can get a decent picture of the damn thing I'll post it in the "Latest Tattoo Lowdown" thread.

  19. Consult with Mo Coppoletta today in TFB for bringing down my left arm sleeve. It was good to see him, felt like I was going back to my tattoo collecting roots, because he was the first guy to do big work on me! The shop is still cool as ever. Roll on The first Friday in March so the work can begin...

There is a lot and I mean a lot more than what you said GSJoe. You can love art but you are not going to try and be Caravaggio! Where are you at GSJoe? Before you even started tattooing fruit you need to draw! When you are tired of drawing, draw some more! Draw and draw. Then go in to a tattoo shop and show those drawings. Go home and draw some more. You see where I am going here GSJoe? After all that drawing, you may, going back into that shop and show them your new drawings. If they like them than you will be taught how to draw! " You have to past the first grade before you can go to the second grade!" Peck

  22. There's nothing wrong with bringing in a printed copy of this, shit it's flash if you got this exact tattoo I don't think there would be anything wrong with it, but if you have to redraw it anyway, might as well improve on it. I am sure whoever drew it was inspired by someone else's flash and drew his own version, and probably the person he copied it from did the same thing with someone else's flash. The design is old and classic and out there it's just a matter of people making it their own.

Would love to get something pretty sizeable from O'Donnell, time and travel expense kind of make it unlikely for the foreseeable future - really cool for all you guys! Just about to email Greg Christian about getting something while he's in London - maybe a dragon's head, I was going to get Chad to do one if I came up on the reserve list while he's at Frith Street but I figure that's unlikely and if I do I can always get him to smash something else out, could be an exciting month after all...

  29. This guy was a true pioneer in the tattoo industry. and even though there has been much bad talk about him making professorial equipment available to the general public many years ago- it does seem like quite a few of the best known artists world wide started their career thanks to him. and even tough I had a professional apprenticeship, my first machines and much of my equipment back then was all Spaulding brand, and of course the a to z book that I still have, and hope to pass along to my apprentice one day, just as I got it from the guy who taught me. RIP

  31. I believe the dude on the left is Jason Ochoa. I worked that Sunday night at the bar and a dude was there with a Elm St. tattoo patch and we got talking and he said his name was Jason and he was doing a little spot over at Greenpoint Tattoo, which got us talking about the DeVita event -- and that he and Thom shared the same dragon back piece. Incredible! And a nice dude.

If he never put a shirt on he would never be able to stop staring at himself and then he would never get anything done and we would become destitute and then we could not afford any more tattoos. Shirts are essential to @Graeme's and my survival.

    Ink Masters

I honestly believe that Nunez does average Japanese stuff. I think part of the reason people think he knows his shit is because he worked with Garver for quite some time. I am not saying he makes bad tattoos, I am saying though, that they are not deserving of being on the same level as Rubendall, Travino, etc... I felt it was a little insulting to Rubendall when he put himself on the same level when he was on Inkmaster.

  37. I can say this, from personal experience. Keep your tattoos out of direct sunlight. Back when I was a kid, we could play outside all day in the sunshine and not get 1/3 of the UV damage that you can get today. I suppose the Ozone is really getting trashed like they say it is. Just walking from inside the house out in the sun feels different than it used to. Its almost an instant little sting thing goin on. Anyone else notice that?

  38. Exactly you could live in small town with one tattooer, but the bet is there is a slightly bigger town within 20 miles with at least one good tattooer in it and probably a big city within 100 miles with many good tattooers. I don't know, for me the shop is more important than the tattooer in some ways. Sure I want to get tattooed by good tattooers, but if the shop doesn't have the right vibe then it's kind of a bummer. I want the shop to seem accessible and inviting to hang out in, and look like a tattoo shop with hand painted signs and flash on the wall. , but I guess it's a catch 22 because most of the people I would want to be tattooed by want to work in shops like that.

    Back of thighs after care.

Haha I use scrubs as my pyjamas! I used to work in a sterile hospital unit where we'd have to wear brand new scrubs every shift so every now and then I'd take a pair of bottoms home with me. So comfy! I've been living in them whilst my calf heals. I agree with @slayer9019, I wouldn't want to wear jeans during the healing, I live in skinny jeans normally so I'd imagine that'd do nothing but piss the new tattoo off.

    Old tattoo photos

This was the first tattoo I got. 1973, at the Long Beach Pike. Done by "Leroy", at "Leroys Tattoo". He looked like an old sailor. He tattooed his name inside his lower lip. People would ask him if he was Leroy, and without saying a word he would turn his lip down so you could read it.

  45. Spoilt in London, but I love the street shop feel at Frith St - it feels a lot more relaxed to me than some of the other shops. I like that it's both a shop for people who are getting their first tattoo as much as it is for the serious collectors.
