What kind of shop do you go to most?
MGblues and 7 others reacted to MadeIndelible for a topic
The thing is, at least for me, the local shops are the famous shops. That might be because I live in the Bay Area, but it's also because, in the tattoo community, most great tattooers are at least somewhat well known. Take a look at Katie Sellergren; when she was working at Mount Idy, she was still getting recognized for the work that she put into the craft of tattooing.8 points -

Would love to get something pretty sizeable from O'Donnell, time and travel expense kind of make it unlikely for the foreseeable future - really cool for all you guys! Just about to email Greg Christian about getting something while he's in London - maybe a dragon's head, I was going to get Chad to do one if I came up on the reserve list while he's at Frith Street but I figure that's unlikely and if I do I can always get him to smash something else out, could be an exciting month after all...4 points

As stated in another thread, babysat our grandson for 12 days that just ended 2 days ago - that counts as awesome to me. In the past two years (I think that counts as recent), other than getting my first 2 tattoos, I went skydiving in San Antonio, zip lining in Jamaica, hiked the knifes edge of Mt Katahdin in ME, went to Hawaii to visit my daughter who is a nurse in the Army, raised almost $8,000 for pancreatic cancer research in memory of my wifes mother and sister who both died from the disease, purchased a sweet 12' travel trailer and started camping with my wife (something we both did growing up). That's my short list of recent awesome things I've done (at least awesome to me :) )4 points -

Finished this awesome stained glass window panel for my commode (lol). It's my second piece I've ever done. Not the best photos to show it off since the light outside isn't too bright but you get the idea: Inspired by an Indian rug Started stained glass after my mom passed away a four months back. It's been nice to have something creative to sink my teeth into. - Lori4 points -

I believe the dude on the left is Jason Ochoa. I worked that Sunday night at the bar and a dude was there with a Elm St. tattoo patch and we got talking and he said his name was Jason and he was doing a little spot over at Greenpoint Tattoo, which got us talking about the DeVita event -- and that he and Thom shared the same dragon back piece. Incredible! And a nice dude.3 points -
I'm considering a lady's head in the style of a 20's female aviator, something like Amy Johnston or Amelia Earheart, from a similar era to the flappers.3 points

@ChrisvK as it sounds like you'll already be in the area, let me recommend going through Slovenia too! I hitchhiked a bunch in Europe in my late teens/early twenties, and it was by far the easiest place I ever did it, in addition to being a beautiful, beautiful country!2 points -
Well I have always just crossed germany by car, so this time I plan on taking my time exploring the neighboring country. After that I plan on going to Austria, Swiss and maybe Italy. Then see if I can go back north via the other side of Germany and stopping by in Berlin and chill there for a bit, and then hit up some mates I met last year while i was in Sweden in the summer. They invited me to go roadtripping with them through scandinavia. If I haven't got tired of living out of a backpack by then Ill probably cross the pond to meet up with some people i met in hostels who live in the UK. Then I'll probably return home, repack, get a new passport since mine expires in a year or so. I will either settle down in normal life again, or go crazy hitchhiking and see if i can reach Asia, but that is all many nights away from now ;). Just orderd my bivy, it arrives in 6 days and then I will take it for a test in the Dunes, about 10km away from my hometown. I'll be taking pictures and write an article on my blog about that when done. Thanks again for all the support and interest you guys show! You're amazing people and if any of you happen to live near the roads I will follow, by all means give me a shout and we can go for a beer or something2 points

True, I say that to other too, and I did it myself. It's not that I dislike bacon, I dislike this bacon worship. Every thing is not better with bacon people. Bacon soap, bacon bikini, bacon candy, bacon hot sauce, my brother has a bacon wallet. Make it stop people.2 points

Consult with Mo Coppoletta today in TFB for bringing down my left arm sleeve. It was good to see him, felt like I was going back to my tattoo collecting roots, because he was the first guy to do big work on me! The shop is still cool as ever. Yeah that's me. He couldn't get the panther and tiger to work well so he drew the tiger fighting a snake. I'm really really really happy the way it turned out and I also got to take a look at his book. It's incredibly awesome and he hasn't started tattooing out of it yet, he wants to wait until it's completely full.2 points -

I am so pro strong silhouette. I've been working on fighting the urge to put bursts and nonsensical background behind everything just to preserve the silhouette. Sometimes it;s difficult, but I find that If I think the image needs some background 9 times out of 10 it's because the drawing is weak anyway. So I redraw. If I do add an element into the background or something, I try to make it add to and preserve the silhouette, not take it away. I fail miserably at it all the time, but I work on it constantly.2 points

This guy was a true pioneer in the tattoo industry. and even though there has been much bad talk about him making professorial equipment available to the general public many years ago- it does seem like quite a few of the best known artists world wide started their career thanks to him. and even tough I had a professional apprenticeship, my first machines and much of my equipment back then was all Spaulding brand, and of course the a to z book that I still have, and hope to pass along to my apprentice one day, just as I got it from the guy who taught me. When I drove in, it was late at night, I was in a city I have never been to, and I drove by THREE times before I called Kim and had her rescue me. I think the studio was enjoyable for me partly because I am in a street shop six days a week and the change of pace was cool.1 point -

Come to think of it, they didn't give me the address until a few days before my appointment. I hadn't noticed that it wasn't listed any where until then. It's pretty cool that there's no sign, no indication at all that there is even a business there. I enjoy how private it is there, I don't think I would do well in a normal shop with other people getting tattooed in the same space at the same time. They ruined me, now I can only go there. :p1 point -

That tiger and snake battle rules! I love how huge it is and how it takes up most of your back. O'Donnell does some of the best tigers in tattooing, in my opinion.1 point

@Ducky15568 take a look at this thread about negative space between tattoos and spacing between them: http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-designs-books-flash/818-tattoo-silhouette-negative-space.html Ultimately it comes down to what you want but it might be better for the readability of your tattoos if you just give them space to breathe. You have plenty of open skin to cover before you need to add background.1 point
