  9. Hey! I just noticed that I'm a "regular" here now... ex-lurker no more!! What if people had to have at least 10 posts and... at least 3(?) or 5(?) "liked posts" before they could start a thread... certainly no one would "like" one of the obviously spammy posts that people have been rushing through to get to 10. It might force people to be more thoughtful...

I probably shouldn't assume this, but I betcha mine was one of those replies. I usually try to be like all warm and welcoming and shit, y'know? But second post old boy puts up is gettting in Graeme's face, and I'm sorry, but that's not going to fly without some flak. If you disrespect someone that I think highly of, then I'm damn sure gon let you know I don't care for you. http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/initiation/3512-newbie.html#post55430 If that makes me a heavy, well, I can live with it.

    Hello from Ohio

Hey ladies and gents, just joined up after lurking for awhile. I'm from northeast Ohio. I found LST after getting a few bad tattoos from scratchers when I was 16-17. I'm 19 now and I'm working on getting the tattoos I want, so far I've gotten two pieces from a local guy that does very nice and clean traditional work(pictures in gallery for anyone who's interested). This is where I learned what good tattoos were and what kind of tattoos I wanted to get which is american traditional. I want to thank everyone for the good information that is supplied here as it is so valuable. I don't really know what else to say haha

Yep, doing five or six hours on it. We should finish lining it and start with the shading. I am super excited and simultaneously dreading it as Thomas said that the shading sessions are going to be "brutal".

What's up everybody! I'm Cody and from Kentucky! Out my way we like fast horses, pretty women (or is it the other way around?), and good tattoos! I've been getting tattooed for 8 years and I'm just in the love with the art and tradition of tattooing. I'm new to this site and I am just pumped to have found a place that the integrity of tattooing will be honored. I myself am just a collector of tattoos whose always looking for a new idea. just wanted to drop a line Cody

    Upcoming Tattoos

Ron Henry Wells just announced that he's attending the Philly convention, so even though I'm already getting a decent sized piece, I emailed him. I just had to. I'm a little nervous because these will only be my second and hopefully third tattoos, but, you know, fuck it.

    Food and Drink list

I made a really good Mexican pork stew last week as well from a recipe in Rick Bayless' Authentic Mexican cookbook. It was so good. I made up a batch of fresh Mexican chorizo for it and cooked up the last of that a couple of days ago to make a pork, chorizo, and sweet potato cobbler. A picture of that:

    Just another newbie!

If you start posting here, chances are that you're going to eventually end up thinking that getting a full body suit is a totally normal and rational thing to do. Not saying that's a problem, just saying. Welcome to LST.

Alright I guess I'll step in here......The name calling is enough, what are we kids? No we're adults on a tattoo forum who should act respectful to one another even if we don't see eye to eye and/or know eachother face-to-face. Disagreements happen and that is good though the important part is how we conduct ourselves in the disagreements that matter. First we don't delete profiles, post, thread, images, etc unless it is spam or under very few and rare circumstances. We want people to think before they post here (unlike other forums) so that people try to act more civil on this site and we don't have to police all damn day. We're trying to run a different forum than those before us so we can help people along the way get better tattoos. Name calling doesn't help that and I don't care who started take the higher road. Secondly, yes each person has there own take on their tattoos and it is important that the person who has the tattoos likes them....with that being said there is always going to be a better tattooer who could of executed a tattoo better. I have some pretty bad tattoos and over the years I have tried to get better ones each time. Sure I like my bad tattoos for various reasons though would I still goto those same people today? NO! I am sometimes around tattooers who I think very highly of and they see my shitty tattoos and I know they do because they'll make comments...so I suck it up and work on getting better tattoos. I have some tattooers who I respect look at tattoos they've done on me and critique them...how am I supposed to feel as I am the one wearing it? I don't care as I know that is what makes them strive to be better tattooers and gotten them where they are and will help them get to where they want to get....better! Lastly, you did put up photos of your tattoos as well as some where you are doing some sort of modeling so my questions is....what were you looking to get out of those modeling ones when all you had to do was put up the close-ups of your tattoos? With all that being typed, we do hope you'll stick around and maybe learn a thing a two...I learn a lot cause I enjoy being a student and will never know it all. If you decide to leave that's cool as well though your post and pics stay.

Right. Let me get this traight. You come here, post some pictures of your "good tattoos", then when people try to help you out and inform you that your view may be a bit off, you get mad and act like a fucking douche? Take your head out of your ass. YOU CAME HERE!. The mission of this forum is partially to help collectors recognize what is good tattooing and what isn't. You couldn't handle honesty and a little humor...be gone. Oh, and while I am at it. A good tattoo is not subjective. Someone saying their shit tattoos are good because it is personal preference does so because they don't know what is good and what isn't. You think because it is on your body, that it is amazing. Face it, your tattoos suck, I have tattoos that suck, everyone does. But the difference is most people can realize that the quality is not dependent on if it is on you or not. A bad tattoo is a bad tattoo. Oh, and why the fuck are you prancing around in a empty parking garage with your shirt off?

You put 'em out there, you made 'em public bidness. Personally, I think you got some shabby work, and your fake-ass posed pics look like something a low-rent hustler would put out. Barbwire armbands?! But that's just my opinion. But it isn't a problem for me, don't worry. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

  38. I'll only speak for the Anchor tattoo, being the proud wearer of one (my first tattoo). I don't believe it is insulting to have one if you're not Navy. The anchor has been a christian symbol for far longer than there has been a U.S. Navy (though not any navy I suppose?). The anchor is just a classic symbol and even though it was obviously popular among naval servicemen it certainly can be enjoyed by all. - - - Updated - - - Ok, I'll also add, about asking about a shop and/or tattooer: I don't think there's anything wrong with asking about a particular shop or artist. No one here wants you to get a bad tattoo, so if your option isn't up to the job we'll tell you. Especially since none of your proposed designs includes a realistic dragon. However, I think (and I've only been here a short time myself, so take this with a grain of salt) what's better is that you take your time and look at a lot of good tattoos. I mean a lot. Watch the tattooer interviews on this site. Watch Tattoo Age and Gypsy Gentleman. Read the blogs of the good tattooers you learn about. Start to educate yourself as to what makes a good tattoo, and soon you'll be able to judge for yourself if a tattooer is good or not. Then you can get a whole bunch of good tattoos and teach others to do so too!

    Star Wars tattoos

I figure since I'm a Star Wars nerd and recently got a Star Wars Tattoo, I'll post it here. It's from a Derek Ward Flash Set and done by Todd Lamere at Body Art Tattoo. This is only 5 days into healing so I'm sure it will look a bit different.

@Deb Yarian thanks for speaking up and I can't recall any posting by you that wasn't called for...... We respect your dedication and want you to be a part of it! These things grow and without those who know what they are talking about speaking up and guiding the conversations productively we could end up down many other forums trails WHICH we don't want! We want to be a nice and helpful site so people can get better tattoos

  47. @Turquoise Cherry I think it's 'context sensitive' some places it seems right that the staff have visible tattoos, others not. It varies from city to city and job to job. Visible tattoos don't belong in M&S. That above article didn't make it clear what charity work the girl was doing nor who for. It did make it clear that she became argumentative. If I argue, even as a customer, they have the right to ask me to leave. If I was volunteering, you could be damned sure I wouldn't argue with the staff who were playing host to my charity work. Just because you work for free it doesn't mean you can be a dick about it. There's still some responsibility to be professional. I guess my perception of 'tattooed people' is different from most. The majority of my customers are at least skilled professionals, some are craftsmen, some are lawyers, bankers, accountants. Many are self employed or own a business or company. Most of them don't discuss their tattoos with their co-workers, even more don't show them. You can bet most of them don't show them outside of our shop, conventions or maybe the gym. These are the kind of people I have respect for. The kind who don't flaunt their tattoos at the grocery store. then complain when someone doesn't like it. @Dan S once you decide to get a tattoo, for yourself, you are weird. I dont care what anyone else says. A freak is somewhere between that and a bodysuit. except me. I'm normal and everyone else is weird. - but really, your question doesn't have a standard answer but that doesn't weaken my point. Believe it or not, we at Frith Street have a "dress code" If you don't have tattoos, you can't work with us. We think that's fair. To be honest I find it sorta dull and small-minded to discuss the pros and cons of if adults who deliberately chose to do something they know isn't totally acceptable across the board, should bitch and whine when someone points out that it's not totally acceptable. An extreme example: If a nudist who likes to hang around without clothes, does it at a nudist/naturist beach or resort, good for them. Adults exercising their freedoms and hobbies in a mutually agreeable, non-harmful manner. If they do it at a schoolyard at playtime... Context is everything.

    Traveling for a shop?

I've made the 7-8 hour drive from montreal to brooklyn new york twice of late. Once in july and again in october. I went to Smith Street both times as well as getting an appointment with Bailey Robinson on my last trip. In my opinion it has been totally worthwhile. There are some very good tattooers in mtl, but nobody is putting out work that is so representative of that style.
