My Mariachi back piece that Kore Flatmo is doing. @David Bruehl did the bottom guy in color and Kore is knocking out the rest. Kore and I are both pretty pumped with how his black and gray work makes David's color work really pop. I'm pretty excited to finish this and hoping we can finish in February.19 points -

I didn't mean to set them so close together, but I have an appointment with Seth Wood on Friday in Austin, then another (possibly final) session with Kore Flatmo on my back on February 7th and 8th, and then an appointment with Marie Sena at the West Texas Convention towards the end of February. Pretty excited about it all...8 points -
Getting tattooed by Jordan at Frith Street on Saturday, all being well. An old back problem has flared up again, I'm in fucking agony at the moment. A couple of days taking it easy and I should be ok, fingers crossed.6 points

Tattoo Nightmare!
joakim urma and 5 others reacted to hogg for a topic
Last night, my wife dreamed that she went to get a small tattoo on her forearm: a bust of Mary in a traditional Americana style. The guy she went to said, "I use laughing gas for all my clients, so you'll be out for the tattoo." He showed her the drawing, and it was all wrong: a photorealistic rendering of Mary. So she told him she didn't want that at all, and he fixed the drawing--a little. Then he gave her the gas, and when she came to, he'd tattooed a shitty dragon that went from her forearm, onto her palm, and then--somehow--onto her forehead! She started freaking out, and even the other guys at his shop said, "Dude, that's not cool. Chicks don't get their palms tattooed."6 points -

Really a breath of fresh air! No "hot" women on the cover (I have the internet, there's porn), articles will have actual depth (it HAS depth, just not any technical stuff) and all the artist will actually be good. And you can really sit down with it and read it. Not skim it while taking a shit (unless you have a laptop. Or one of those other gadgets that youngsters have..). Quality! How come it hasn't been done before...5 points -

Tattoo Nightmare!
gougetheeyes and 2 others reacted to Pugilist for a topic
OMG "chicks don't get their palms tattooed" almost made me guffaw at work. I have all the usual tattoo nightmares like being late for appointments, and I often have ones where the tattoo ends up being much bigger than expected--like I asked for something on my upper arms, and before I realize what's happening, they've tattooed something that goes all the way down to my fingers. But my best tattoo nightmare came right before I started my backpiece. I had a dream about seeing the design for the first time, and actually, a lot of it was not that far off from what the design ended up being. Except that in between all the normal stuff, right in the very middle of my back, my tattooer put a tribal mask portrait of her face. I was unsure but she totally talked me into how cool it would look. It did not. I was happy to make my tattooer laugh when I recounted this to her at our actual appointment.3 points -
@Lochlan - thanks for your reply. Like I said, I am totally stumped when I try to think about how to solve this problem too, which is why I threw it out there -I feel like some other posters might have some good ideas! @oldfartart I totally get what you're saying, but that's kind of a point - it's not a bad thing if it takes a little while to get to your ten posts. It's not a bad thing to say nothing if you have nothing to contribute, rather than searching for things to say just for the sake of saying them (although I feel like it would be easy to get to one's ten posts just commenting on how rad everyone's work is! Don't need to be a pro to appreciate!) The point of this kind of policy is to force people to listen before they speak. LST wants to see itself as a community, i.e. as a place where people exchange ideas and get to know one another and learn from each other, and so people signing up because they have a specific question they want to ask about THEIR tattoos and not respecting that they are expected to participate, meaningfully, first, sucks. If we all just used the board to ask our questions, no matter how good, without engaging with others in more sustained ways, then this place would be really self-serving, noisy and not a community at all. I am a big fan, in general, of slowing down in life. Everything about western culture right now is based on speed - we want things now, we get things now, we hate to wait. It alters how we relate to each other and while sometimes the speed with which we function is really amazing, it can also have its downsides. And so I really appreciate that the administrators of this board have been thoughtful about how to try and slow people down a bit, and hope we can come up with functional ways to make that work even better.3 points

not a huge deal but if the blue was lightened with white it makes sense that that happened. if it really bothers you then have the person who did the tattoo go over it and use a truer blue with less white. and it will all work out3 points -
Hi guys. Just topping this thread to raise a concern about the 10-post n00b thing. I love the policy and the logic of how it's set up, but I feel like recently there has been an influx of people who sign up and then basically spam the board with posts to get to their 10-post count so that they can start whatever weird thread they signed up to start. It didn't bug me when this happened occasionally, but it seems to be happening more and more often such that the noise caused by these throwaway posts is really aggravating. I have no idea how to fix this, as I think the policies already in place are fantastic, but I just wanted to ask if it's driving anyone else nuts too, and if so, if you have any ideas re: how to get people to actually post ten REAL posts and not just abuse that policy to get out of their n00b status faster?3 points

I love hearing about all the great things you all are doing. :) Next week, I start my last semester as an undergrad. I'm ecstatic. Now, I just need to figure out what I want to do before I apply to PhD programs. I am happy that I decided to take a break to get some more work experience, etc. Not stressing over grad school has enabled me to take time to consider what is important to me and to focus on other aspects of my life.3 points -

else and one other reacted to oldfartart for a topic
I guess one of the issues I have is that I'm a new member with less that 10 posts. Since I'm not a spammer, it will take me a little bit to get to 10 posts. Since I just got my first tattoo 5 days ago, I don't really know a lot about tattooing so it's hard to interject into a conversation when you're new and don't really know much of anything. I do enjoy reading the boards though and there is a lot of good knowledge to glean from here. I can understand why the rule is put in place, but it does make it difficult for a new member to ask a legit question they may have.2 points -
yeah it's been on my radar lately too and we can't come up with a good solution to try and keep the "spam" down. If you have some ideas pls share as we're always open. I must say though is the people who are doing it tend not to stick around long and their need to contribute for their own selfish need of ten shows the quality of user they may be....it really is not that hard to contribute ten productive post if someone cares enough as we've had users recently do this as well. Long story short stuck between a rock and a hard spot EDIT: We are going to have users chasing the ten post irresponsibly so when we see this we may just want to jump in and say something like, "if you're trying to just get to your ten post so you can start your own thread without contributing productively to the community then chances are you're not gonna get a productive answer to your thread when you do reach that ten."2 points

Some of the inks in my tattoos will change in colour depending on the season, how much sun I'm getting and my body temperature. I have a bird that is white as snow in the winter and i get a golden bird in the summer. I wouldn't sweat it, your tattoo looks great now post-healing and a tattoo is going to look even better after it's aged a bit. It's easy to obsess about the details in our tattoos. It's the small imperfections that make each tattoo awesome.1 point

I vaguely remember a nightmare after getting my first tattoo 22years ago. It involved me cutting my arm off because I thought it would look cool/tough and all my mates was doing it. Obviously ended up regretting this decision when I realised how it hindered me in life, woke up to see my tattooed arm still there with relief.1 point

When I get a pimple I usually squeeze the heck out of it and can't leave it alone, it ends up massive. On that basis I recommend squeezing the heck out of it and you might end up with a full back piece.1 point -
Jennifer, when I was getting tattooed at Congress St. Tattoo in Portsmouth, NH last summer, Fat Tony Sellers who works there showed me a split painting he did with Richard and Aaron Coleman and it was ridiculously good. I think Richard painted a fox with a parrot in its mouth and Tony said it took him like 30 minutes to paint it. It's humbling to see things like that.1 point
