  2. Oh what the hell, probably crazy to enter a tattoo here given what's already posted, but whatever, I'm not here to make friends: Done by Seth Wood, Saved Tattoo. Mostly finished October 2011 so the thing is healed a year, but the illustrations in the book are fresh and were done a couple of weeks ago. Apologies for the giant pictures.

    Ink Masters

Yeah I have been thinking that this season of Ink Master pretty much closes the tattooers with little to no tattoos debate, not that it was ever much of a debate to begin with. It doesn't say much about tattooers with tattoos either though...

  20. Forgive my geography but I put you in the vicinity of American Graffiti , I would do whatever it takes and get tattooed some where like this where I could be assured of the artists ability and also enjoy the relative comfort of that knowledge . Otherwise when in doubt ask Uncle @hogg if he would be so kind . main

Thank you! I don't honestly know the artists that tattooed me...I just know where the shops are located because I got them in three different states throughout an eight year period....I hardly ever had the money to spare for tattoos so whenever I could I did. I'll be home soon but for operational security reasons I can't say more than that....thank you for your sincerity. I have read the newbie statement and I have no intentions on violating the guidelines so no concern is nessicary. Thankyou for your welcome and I'm looking forward to being a part of the community.

Welcome, and thanks for your service! I think you'll find LST to be a friendly, informative place. However, it's not a place to ask questions about breaking into the biz or technical questions. Take a look at the Last Sparrow Tattoo - Newbie Guidelines when you get a chance. Who's done the tattoos you have? And more importantly, when you do come home?

  24. What is the reason for your apprehension? Are you unhappy with the first tattoo they did? I am certainly not qualified to judge the quality of someones work, but what is on the Facebook page seems to be well done. That being said if you're not comfortable maybe the best thing to do is to find another shop. The last thing I would want would be and apprehension about the work I was having done or the person doing it.
    1 point
  25. It looks like a good shop to me. El Gerome does some very nice portrait work. Dennis seems to do good all around work. I would stick with the same artist for all the work and would probably use Dennis. 1/2 the thing is how happy you are with the artwork before you sit in the chair. If there is anything you don't like and want changed, have it done before he cuts a stencil. Geo Rogers... his dragon head is superb, not your thing but I had to mention it. Rob

    Hurricane Sandy

Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it but think things will loosen up here between today & tomorrow. I see cars parked all over... obviously out of gas while trying to find some. I took today off for a couple of appointments and will see who has gas when I'm out and about. I looked at a bunch of generators online. There are hybrids for well under $1000 that run on gas, propane or NG. The main thing is having enough gas line volume to feed both the generator and my heat. I have an empty 40 amp slot in my breaker panel. UPDATE.... I got gas! Waited 45 minutes and filled the car up. Now I'm gonna go wash it, looks so bad.... Rob

    Ink Masters

I think I said this before in this thread, but both tattoos suck. Is it really neccesary to copyright a turd? Clearly the inkmaster dude couldn't quite pull off the same thing the other dude did, but both just leave me shaking my head. It looks like someone started watching Bob Ross and just said fuck it after ten minutes and put some swiss cheese at the bottom. If there is a lesson to be learned, it would be cheat off the smart kid, or know what the fuck you are capable of duplicating. If I someone asks for a tattoo of something the first thing you do is find reference, in a book internet, magazine, whatever or if it's imagery that is used in tattooing then you look at how other people tattooed it. I feel like everything is ripped off to some degree, but when people create good tattoos people are less concerned about the source of an image. A great tattooer who will go nameless, but is more talented and wiser than me, recently told me their are two kinds of people, those who use google search for reference and liars. I think there is a clear difference between something like this and selling bootleg copies of peoples art. I mean even flash I feel if you buy it or a book that is a collection of flash you have the right to tattoo it, even repaint the images and give credit, but you can't just sell someone's images as your own. I think it's okay to tattoo it, because that's kind of the agreement when you buy stuff like that and yes you collect money, but it's for the service of applying a tattoo. I think ethically it's not right to misrepresent and image to a customer as something created custom for them and I would be more concerned about the client in this case. The other point is someone is going to try to straight rip off another tattoo, is usually going to create a straight up busted version of it, because pictures of other people's tattoo suck as reference. If you are going to reference it properly, you most likely are going to have to redraw the whole thing anyway. I think there is a clear dropoff in talent this year. Maybe again its just tattooers and styles I am not used to seeing, but for my book sucking is not a style.

  31. I came across this about Professor Tom Riley in George Burchett's Memoirs of a Tattooist: "Tom, as I later came to know him, was a Yorkshireman who, like most tattooists, began his craft while he was still in the Forces. Having made a tidy sum by tattooing Army officers and men during his service, he bought himself out--a considerable feat for a ranker in those days--and went back to his home town, Leeds. There he took drawing lessons at the Mechanical Institute and later opened his first workroom in Liverpool's dockland. After a time he moved to Glasgow, whence his fame spread rapidly. He was offered an engagement as resident tattooist at the Royal Aquarium in London, where as a boy I had been a billiards-maker. Subsequently, he started his own surgery in the Strand. Now he was able to build up his clientele of society people and his own name became one to conjure with. Eventually he was employing his younger brother, also an admirable craftsman, as manager of the London interests while he, as the famous Professor Riley, travelled all over the world." @CultExciter A few pages after that Burchett talks about how Prof. Tom Riley was brought to America by P.T. Barnum (Barnum gave Riley the title 'Professor') so there is a direct UK-US link there, but I agree that the origins and exchange of tattoo imagery is fascinating and I'd love to learn more about it.

I like to go with different people and dont expect my body to have a cohesive flow. The styles on my torso/arms are pretty different and I like that. Back is westeren traditional, front is thomas, one arm is thomas, one arm is chris (asian influnece) so they are all different. Ill prob stuff more tattoos between the bigger ones on my torso but my legs are all random slaped on tattoos from different tattooers. Personally thats the way I like it, but I have full respect for people who do one style/one tattooer but for me I like too maney styles equally to pick one. But...I dont see why you cant get other traditional tattoos from other tattooers and still have it cohesive.
