Drunkenly thought I called my girlfriend and left a really long message that I do not remember. I woke up with a text saying "You need to call your lady, stop calling me when you are drunk. Love, Dad."

I regret telling my fiancee that I was worried that my friends, who are organising my stag party next year, are pretty irresponsible and that I was worried it could end in chaos (someone being murdered, nightclub burning down etc). ...Should have just kept that one to myself.

  10. Because people want to posture about how crusty and old school they are? I have a friend who's main source of income is suturing up the huge stretched lobe piercings on tattooers who want to talk shit about piercing.

    Aloha all-

Howdy- I guess I should finally get around to my introduction. My name is Doug Hardy. I tattoo at my father's shop, Tattoo City, in San Francisco. I was apprenticed under Michael 'Rollo' Malone at China Sea Tattoo in Honolulu from 1992-1996, then moved to Minneapolis where I worked at Northside Tattoo, The Ink Lab, Uptown Tattoo and finally The Aloha Monkey. After almost 12 years in the Frozen North, I moved back to my hometown to help run Tattoo City and be my father's right hand man after his retirement. I also help with Hardy Marks Publications and try to stay connected with other artists when I'm not wrangling my goddamned cats.

Kind of! Yeah I would have to agree x10. That's who's doing my left arm (tiger, lotus, mandala...). Aside from being amazingly talented, he is a great guy to chat with. I've got 4 sessions down...2 to go. His card reads: "I'm not the cheapest, just the slowest."

  28. Budget cuts. Police departments in the UK had something like 20% of their budgets cut, so I am guessing that a stricter policy on tattoos could potentially force people out of the police? Though I can't believe that there are so many cops with hand, neck, and face tattoos that it would actually make that much of a difference.

  35. If we can have topics on food, weight lifting, music and "random pictures", I don't see how one thread on piercings is gonna do any harm. On topic, my personal perspective is that I've had piercings in the past, but I get sick of "babying" them - having to clean them meticulously when they get gunked up, making sure I don't lose any bits of the jewellery that might come undone, being careful at shows so they don't get bumped/ripped out - tattoos are only annoying for a week or so while they heal, piercings are annoying forever :P

  37. Good for you, but, wow. Last Sparrow Piercing. This feels like usenet in 1997. Sorry. There are plenty of places online for this stuff, but nowhere else other than Last Sparrow for serious tattoo talk. Yeah, I'm a dick.

  38. Spencer added another lotus, a lily pad, and some cool background mandala stuff to this last night. He also put some negative space around where my daughter's name already was, by the top... now I have to wait until January to continue. Funny how first I asked for a tiger coming down my upper arm. Then he had all these ideas I liked so it grew into what was going to be a 1/2 sleeve. Now... there have been more cool ideas and it's going to be 3/4. By the time it's done, we should have a better camera.

  44. I have hundreds of hours of video of Cliff tattooing naked. Think they'll license that? When the jock douchebags who'll likely be the first wave to wear the Raven line (Cause Ed Hardy and Jerry are SO last year) start showing up at the mall, I'll post it on the Huffington post... "Wait.. he was a tattooer AND a homo? Man, I'll go back to Abecrombie and Fitch!". Douches.

  45. I don't have any cover-ups on my body but I tattoo a hell of a lot of them. Most of the larger work that I do (bigger than 1/2 sleeve) usually incorporates some kind of cover-up. I started to make a point of NOT taking a 'before' picture. Sometimes I do, but I found that the cover-up requests got bigger and bigger the more cover-ups I showed. Covering a half sleeve sized tattoo with a full sleeve compromises the end product but I sometimes enjoy the challenge and the problem-solving aspect of it. This is one of the more tricky ones from last year or so, when I used to take 'before' photos: I got an email today asking if I could cover a full sleeve - with a sleeve.
