  5. I just wanted to mention this new project we are working on. It is an exhibit catalog for an art show with the theme “Born Weird” at Portland’s own Upper Playground gallery FIFTY24PDX. Craig Brown of Historic Tattoo and Scott Boyer of Yellow Beak Press have hand picked the contributors for this project. Tattooers were selected based on style and asked to paint four sheets containing gross or weird subject matter. The result seem to be all over the board from gross-out to just bizarre. We promise it won’t disappoint! The book we are producing will include all of the content from the exhibit and some extra material. We hope to have it out in early 2013. Check Yellow Beak Press production updates. The opening was on 10-4-12 at PDX’s Upper Playground gallery. The exhibit will be up until December 2012. The roster is as follows. Aaron Coleman Adam Craven Adam Warmerdam Andrew Stickler Andy Campoy Bart Bingham Bradley Delay Craig Brown Danny Reed Erik Gillespie Ezra Haidet Jeff Rassier Jeremy Joachim Jesse Bob Jesse Gordon John Henry Gloyne Josh Howard Justin Wheeler Luis Campos Matthew Welch Matt Ziolko Miguel “Uzi” Montgomery Murray Sell Nick Filth Scott La Rock Sean O’Neill Shawn Mcdonald Tim Lehi Zach Shereck

  7. Went into CTC last night to get my friend's daughter a new tattoo, Nick gave her a beautifully-done Phụng! And since I'm a well-known ink-whore who just couldn't drive all that way and come home bare-skinned, he drew me up a lil filler...pardon the lousy cellphone shot.

Nice!! Sounds like a blast. I think there's something about getting tattooed on the statue of liberty, underneath the hungry and poor bits..

I haqve some no name speakers and an 80s onkyo receiver I run ish through. It's not very good. But it gets loud and I can hear stuff. It's also pretty beer-proof. Which is important.

  18. If I were you I would seperate California into three sections, Bay Area/North, LA Region, and San Diego. Similar things could be done for states with one big city list those shops first together and then list stuff in smaller towns at the end, also listing people who work at same shop together. I get that you have it alphabetical for whole state, but that only works out if you know the name of the tattooer you are looking for, in which case you wouldn't need this list.

  21. All I can say is that in this area, 3 hours of work for a deuce would be like a major discount. Most places, I'd say a hundred an hour is gonna be about the minimum. You play, you pay. You can always find someone working at a truck-stop or out of a motel, or go to a "tattoo-party", but you'll get your $50 worth there.

  23. I'm going to try and get in with Doug Fink at Bushido in Calgary, I haven't met him but I've got a few friends who know him. I also liked Rick Wilson's portfolio at Strange World Tattoo in Calgary. Finally I'm going to also check out Lucas Ford at Classic Tattoo in Red Deer. I'm looking at starting with a Japanese style half sleeve, do you have any suggestions? - - - Updated - - - Thanks man, yeah I got a tattoo of my college baseball team logo on the other shoulder blade back in about 04. Both pretty bad tattoos, but I was just a dumb (ex)-athlete who thought playing sports defined me, haha. A few years ago I designed my own skyline type half sleeve, paid the deposit, and when I went in to have it done the stencil was about 12 x 16 (inches). Told em it was supposed to go on my arm, they suggested my ribs, back or chest. So I luckily bailed on that, put everything on the backburner for a few years, had a realization that i needed to expand my horizons and here we are. I'm still kind of in a transition phase of shifting from 9-5 working zombie into a happier-with-less-is-more type. Any way thanks for the warm welcome, and look forward to some needed advice. Peace!! - - - Updated - - - Thanks Shannon

  26. I like the notion of different as well. But for such a big area, I think a classic will sit right at home for me. That's why adding a snake will take it a little beyond different (for me) while keeping it a classic. Plus a snake will add some needed asymmetry. Whoops looks like I've inadvertently made my decision

  28. Cat/eagle is one I haven't seen as often as cat/snake or eagle/snake. I personally would go something a bit weird (like mongoose/snake :P), but I reckon any of them would be great. My vote is cat/eagle.

  32. I hadn't planned to get tattooed at the London Convention, but Michelle Myles (Dare Devil / Fun City NYC) had a cancellation and I've always really loved her work. I got a fantail (native bird from my home country New Zealand) on my outer forearm. I totally love him! Will post a pic once he's healed. I had such a great time at the convention, the first one I've been too.

  36. Got my little leopard head from Ross Nagle at the London convention on Saturday. Top, top guy and a great tattooer. Terrible pic of my badly swollen inner elbow - the faded black above the head is from an old tattoo that will more than likely be covered at some point. Oh and apologies if the picture is huge, think i should have gone for 'medium' rather than 'large'

  42. Squatting can be frustrating. I had to take about 6 months and completely fix my squat, now it is my second favorite lift (dead lifting will forever hold a special place in my heart). From the squatting issues that I have seen, almost all cases it comes down to a lack of hip flexibility. While you guys know I'm not a big fan of crossfit, there is a guy who knows what he is talking about when it comes to keeping loose. Check out MobilityWOD and you'll be doing your hips and shoulders a favor.

  43. Thats a fantastic start with great results , nothing changes your body composition like weight training and women respond better than men. Don't worry about getting bigger as its very unlikely given your build and the absence of lots of food, protein and really heavy weights ,the more muscular and defined you are will make you look bigger but is more an illusion than anything .You' re at the point now to move away from machines-cables etc and focus on free-weights which build better muscle tie-ins,mental concentration ,balance , exercise technique amongst other things and you are sure to relish the challenge .One other thing totally forget about the weight of an exercise concentrate on exercise technique and the way a movement feels and always use the strictest form-get crazy OCD on this as your body doesn't know pounds only stress on the muscle.

  44. I tell you the one bonus of paleo for me is it reintroduced me to the sweet potato. I'd always been a fan of the Mexican pan dulce empanadas that had sweet potato and pumpkin filling, but I'd never eaten them on their own. Now I'm all about them mashed w/ pecans and maple = P

    Dumb Hipster Tattoos

to me, there is no difference between a hipster and people that must attain every douche tattoo that's hip this week by a tattooer who's the same. hipster track bike guy vs hipster steam punk guy vs hipster tattoo guy.........its all the same to me.
