  1. Tattooed by Jondix at Into You Tattoo, in London, yesterday. I've never been so nervous before a tattoo but Jondix is such a lovely guy and made me feel a lot more calm.

Thought it might be appropriate to break my lurker status by joining this thread. Here's my in-progress kitsune by Claudia De Sabe at Jolie Rouge, London. Didn't want to outright swipe the photo but here's a link to it on her facebook page Claudia De Sabe's Photos | Facebook

  3. Thought I would post a pic of my front, It seemed to be a long journey and now it is near completion it feels slightly strange, anyway as planned we will be putting a dagger through the neck and are still undecided on what will fill the space between the dagger and what is already there, also we are waiting to see if it will need anything else after it heals and final touch up session. Artist is Tristan Bentley, Ocean Ink Miranda Sydney Australia, tattoo is swollen and red will take another pic after it heals.

Didn't know that was still going on. Always thought of trying to get together something like that here, though with LST and the internet it seems kind of redundant. @abees did you know Les Skuse from before and do they open up joining to just anyone? They don't jump you in, like @Lochlan and @hogg did to me when I got off the flight in SF?

  6. Hold it. Are you trying to tell me that you don't want to hear about how their faded tribal koi fish riding a unicorn the size of a dime on their shoulder blade reminds them of the frog that ran away when they were three years old????? You probably don't want to hear about their plans to get "tatted up" with a full body suit that they are planning to get done by the guy that does their brother-in-laws next door neighbor's scratching in his basement weekends when he's out of prison on work release. What kind of heartless person are you? :-)

  10. Got a piece from Freddy last winter. Probably the best tattoo experience I have ever had. Great work obviously, but so down to earth, easy going and welcoming. My girlfriend got her feet tattooed by Hector Fong. Awesome. I love his work and plan to get something from him sooner than later.

That is so funny that Sailor Jerry is mentioned, because if you read "American Tattoo Master" he hated Doc Forbes, Lyle Tuttle and Bill Skuse.

  17. I am travelling down to London for the convention this year. Only other convention I have ever been to is the the Brighton convention which I believe is a bit smaller. Really looking forward to it as the line up of Artists looks awesome. Getting tattooed by Henning Jorgenson on the Saturday evening. Should be a good weekend.

  19. After watching the new tattoo age video of Freddy and recently looking at the 222 Tattoo Shop thread I think we need a Temple Tattoo thread. Also for good measures let's make Tattoo 13 (Freddy's other shop with good tattooers as well) in the mix....For those who haven't seen it here is the interview Scott Sylvia did with Freddy Corbin for LST For me Temple Tattoo is where @Scott Sylvia outlined and did some of the shading on my lower left arm of a cobra with a Dia De Los Muertos mask on wrapped around a sacred heart. Also Freddy Corbin did the lettering on my collar bone which I've mentioned in the lettering thread was impressive to see him make a few lines on my collar then take the pen and start writing some amazing script straight on where within a few minutes said "take a look in the mirror", the man is impressive. But overall when I think of Temple I think of hanging out laughing with friends, after hours smoking inside, and shooting the shit. The beautiful religious art, altars, flash with very good and friendly tattooers inside. I remember in the early days trying to find something to eat close by on the weekends was a pain in the ass as the block/area used to be like a zombie ghost town on the weekends. For Tattoo Thirteen I instantly think of Chummy Alexanian and Hector Fong as well as the same vibe/atmosphere as Temple. Plus the infamous Friday the Thirteenth parties there. I've only been tattooed once there and it was by Freddy at one of the parties. I had a colleague with Parkinson's want to get tattooed so I gave him a list of tattoo shops to checkout and he decided on here so I went with him and Sonju tattooed him. The experience was great and Sonju was very patient and gave him a great tattoo which I can only imagine is no easy job in that situation and the uncontrollable moving. Lets hear your stories........

I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone would consider you "swiping" the photo if it's of artwork done on your body.

  21. Pretty good, thanks. Tattoos doing nicely covered by a cotton glove at the moment. - - - Updated - - - It's very intense to say the least and it's every bit as bad as everyone says. I can only describe it as a deep searing, burning sensation. Jondix, mercifully, works quickly and is such a calming influence. - - - Updated - - - It certainly is. I coped by concentrating on my breathing and sort of zoning out. There was an air conditioning fan above me, I think, and I was mentally pushing the pain into the unit. Sounds a bit weird but it works for me.

  22. Luckily for me I work in a profession that is pretty accepting of visible pieces. I am a chef and my biggest worry is getting a nasty burn that might hurt my investments on my arms. My right arm is pretty full with individual pieces and I just finished a sleeve on my left arm from Chris O'Donnell. One of my bosses is very enthusiastic about my artwork, really respects the art and craft & understands that collecting tattoos from artist you respect/like is the same thing as collecting pieces of art that hang on the wall. She did ask about my hands though. I told her I was holding off for now, but was uncertain about the future. My hands are a consideration for me while working is a slightly public position for a pretty public nonprofit. I have no consideration for what my family/friends think. They don't have to like it. I surround myself with people who take me & accept me for who I am and what I bring to the table.

  26. I'm going onto my forearms in less than a month and I feel pretty good about it. I'm 33, I'm well established in my job in a field where tattoos are not a problem, and if things change, I'll deal with it and wear long sleeves if I have to. The only stress I have about getting my forearms tattooed is how my mother-in-law is going to react since I don't think she knows that either me or my wife have any tattoos. Really not looking forward to that.

  42. I say, be punk rock about it. Don't let the "man" hold you down. If someone is going to deny me a job because of how I've decided to decorate my skin, then that's not a person I wanna work for. Getting visible tattoos is a lifestyle decision, so doing it means you truly need to commit to it and be aware of all of the consequences of those actions. I'm not saying don't do it. I'm saying that if you do it, do it for you, know what it means, and know the doors it will close (and open) for you.

  43. Im not going to let the uncertain future plan my tattooing. So I avoid hands and neck but the rest is good to go...at worst I wear longsleeves to work(like I do now).

  44. I kind of took the opposite approach. I know what I do for a living now may not be what I do in the future, but if I do have to do something else, I will be less than willing to take a job that required me to cover up. It's not even really about the tattoos, It's the corporate culture. I know it limits my options, but I have always been more about quality than quantity. There is a certain lifestyle aspect to me getting tattoos along with the appreciation of the art. We all make compromises to how "punk" we are, but at least for me their has to be a cut off point.

  46. You know, "back in the day", at least in the late sixties/early seventies when I started hanging around/getting tattooed in pro shops, there was DEFINITELY a different vibe. But I will say, at least at CTC, if you showed up buzzed, you got shown the door. I never saw anyone drinking in there, even once. Course, I do believe some guys out there may occassionally smoke one a them there left-handed cigarettes, but what do I know?!

  47. Some people are just douche bags. Regardless of any friendship, your tattoo artist should be treated with respect and your appointment should be treated as a business transaction. Try showing up at your dentist, doctor, lawyer, mechanic's with no notice and ask them to drop everything to help you. A lot of professionals charge people who don't show up for appointments, and they should. When you bail on an appointment you are taking money out of the artists pocket and leaving him unemployed unless a walk-in happens to show up. That's not how you treat friends.

  48. Excellent thread! I love, love, love Temple. I've been tattooed there by Freddy and Heath Preheim, and my wife has been tattooed there by Freddy, Heath and Jamie Ruth. We've also stopped by to see other friends get tattooed, or just to visit with Freddy when we're in the neighborhood. Those of you have been tattooed there know that things run on a slightly looser schedule, but it's all part of Temple's charm. Just sit back, soak up some great stories and enjoy your small place in tattoo history.
