  1. I do machine shop work on the side.... I had been working on these really close-tolerance parts for a another shop over a year ago. It turns out that some of them are on the Mars craft that is actually now on Mars. How can you beat that? I found out about it last week. CG

    Traveling for a shop?

So here a a couple of pictures of what I got on my west coast trip. They are all healed up now. The dragon is by Jeff Rassier of Black Heart Tattoo. Juan Puente did the sugar skull at the same shop, an hour later! The week after I got Stuart Cripwell to do the moth. While I was a Spider Murphy's I picked up their flash book which is quite beautiful as well as getting two new sheets of flash. I just got the sheets home from the frame shop. They look awesome on my wall! The three tattooers were super friendly, I would highly recommend all three of them for your tattoo needs!

  6. I have noticed that there are a lot more of these "tattoo supply delivery" trucks entering the supply market. I think it's important that our money, the industry money, be invested back into our industry, or into peoples businesses who care about our industry. We are being preyed upon by companies who view us as a resource to be tapped. Don't let laziness open the door for these opportunists to leech off of us. Spend your money on quality products from quality vendors. Those trucks supply the kitchen wizards and unchecked amateurs that are cancer to our business

  8. Gangster Clap makes sense, Wouldn't know what brokeback girl was but no one comes off the street wanting that, they usually see it on the wall and just point. I call this version the swiss army knife of tattoos, because you get a skull, a girl, a dagger, and an eagle in one tattoo, quite a deal for the price.

Thought this would be good in this thread (the link shows a woman with large tattoos showing when she wears shorts and a tank top, and the same woman dressed conservatively for work with none of the tattoos showing & a short comment under it: "This one's for all the clients that want their tattoos tiny and hidden even though that’s not what’s best for their design idea. When you get the tattoos you want you will tailor your work attire appropriately.") Dermagraphique: A Tattoo Critique • This ones for all the clients that want their...

  16. I've been tattooed on the butt, both sides of the knee , the chest, but the worst by far is the palm. Not even a contest. Don't believe me here is one of the toughest guys I've ever seen get tattooed, just anguishing in pain.

I kind of hate you right now. Those are two things I've always wanted, but ran out of room for. Who's doing them? As for my feet, I got a daruma and Oiwa (cool legend about her, by the way) by Bill and Junii Salmon:

  18. Youch! What a great video--thanks for posting that. Who's the artist? So I guess palm tattoos are applied the way I'd heard: a million tiny dots. Stab stab stab stab. I have a huge amount of dots on my back and ass as part of my backpiece, and they were not fun. I really can't imagine (OK, I sorta can) what the palm must feel like.

    Scratcher Mike.

My experience with customers that are extremely unhappy with work they have that is beyond repair/cover-up is that less than 1% are patient enough to get laser removal. When they start to learn about the pain level it is a deterrent, but what really discourages most of them is that it's not a one-shot thing. The idea of having to wait 4 months between sittings, and the fact that it will probably take more than 6 sessions, is what steers all of them away from it. So, no I don't think the laser dudes are gonna be rich.

  26. My best mate went to Borneo on honeymoon & had a big anchor on his calf. It was the first Western tattoo the guy had ever done & suffice to say its proper shit! But what can you say!? I think he knows it's shit. I would never be rude. I am an amateur when it comes to tattoo knowledge but I was lucky enough to literally stumble on a circle of high end tattoo artists all of whom have given me quality tattoos. Now I'm hooked & my knowledge is growing. I like what I like but I like to think I can appreciate if a tattoo has been well executed or not regardless of whether it's in my taste. There are an awful lot of people with shit tattoos out there. I think it's hard not to be a snob albeit an inward one.I just smile & say yeah nice one ha ha. And as for first timers I try to give them my best advice as to getting a good tattoo but I think invariably they don't listen or they don't want to wait a while for a good artist in which case what can you do!? I agree with what someone said earlier, I rarely see people in the flesh with good tattoos & I get excited when I do! And someone tell me where all the hot tattooed girls are FFS cause I want one! Ha ha.

    Art thread.

Just got a small painting by a Belfast artist called Colin Davidson. His latest series ('Transmission') is large and small portraits, some of famous Irish people (actors, poets) and some of unknowns. I couldn't afford one of the large-scale pieces, which are just amazing, but managed one of the smaller painting studies. Funnily enough there is a tattoo connection here, as one of the bigger portraits is of Belfast-based tattooist Chris Crooks - Colin Davidson This one of Marketa Irglova, an actress, is probably my favourite:-

I'm trying to get some more ideas for a tattoo of our cat, Zola. She is a black/white tuxedo cat, lived in the shelter for 4 years, and incredibly sweet. I know a lot of cat owners say this, but she is unlike any other cat I've met. Not so independent, never scratches/bites, she doesn't even meow, more like a cooing/purr-meow sound. She's a pretty cuddly little thing, only 7.5 pounds. I asked my artist to tattoo her but I can't think of what kind of things I'd want to have in the tattoo with her. She's such a simple girl, looks out the window, sleeps, plays with hairbands, eats, sleeps, sleeps, etc. I'm thinking of having him turn her into an egyptian goddess but I'm kind of scared to ask for an "egyptian" style tattoo. I thought about having him turn her into a traditional "mean" looking panther, aka a panther with tuxedo cat markings, but he didn't seem too into it. I've got a few months before the appointment so I'm sure I'll figure it out.

  33. I would say even if tattoos were accepted in the corporate workplace I would still cover them up. Hell I keep em all mostly covered outside of work. Also I now have a serious hate for suits now that I have to wear them daily. Only big positive is they are the most comfortable clothing for a fresh tattoo. Very airy, cool and a good suit doesn't stick to the tattoo as much. Only downside is I've had a fresh tattoo bleed black ink through my dress shirt in a meeting...woops!

  34. Whoa...WAY too much information! Man, let the haters hate. It's the new age, PC, that REALLY gets 'em going. Sixties and seventies? I was coming up then, and it was pretty much do your thing. You will ALWAYS find some small percentage of people gotta hate on someone to feel better about themselves, but I think it's far, far worse now than it was bqack in the day. Now you have Political Correctness, which is a fancy way of saying "if you don't think and act exactly as I do, then you're pondscum". It's taught in the schools, and drilled into kids heads from the day they can walk into one...tell a Polack joke?!?!?!?!?! Oh my genderless creation legend-the sky is falling! Fuck it. At least in the sixties and seventies, if you wanted to be a (insert your particular thang here) it was all good. Now, forget it-say the wrong word and the Nanny State and it's informing minions are on you. Try to defend yourself and instead of fighting you, they'll just call 5-0 and press charges.

  35. Forget all that bullsit about names. That's why they make black ink-if you want the name there, go for it. As for step-whatevers, lose that too. Just my humble little opinion. MY fiance came with a daughter that I love as one of my own.

  41. "He's done the one thing that I've said for years, please don't do this. It would really upset me if you did this." If she really had been going on and on about it for years, and clearly has all kinds of weird overbearing mom issues, what choice did the poor guy have? He might not even like tattoos, either, but she practically dared him to do it. All healthy kids need to put some space between themselves and their parents at all different developmental milestones. Henry walked around with his hat on sideways for 6 months when he was 5 cause he heard Scott say that he hated it. Perfectly normal. Talking about your grown son's "lovely shoulder" and mourning the loss of control over his body? Creepy.
