Exactly. Telling someone they have bad tattoos is in extremely poor taste even if they bash them themselves. Just put on good tattoos. Besides, most good tattooers I know have at least a couple of shitty tattoos. It's practically a job prerequisite. Agreed again! With a slight modification, you just described one of my good friends that I used to work with. Every time I visit him at the shop he's at now all he does is trash other artists in town, skilled or not, people he's met or not, and compares the work he currently doing to them. A good friend, but one of the negative people I know. Ironically, he talks all this buddhist shit and acts like other people cant get on his level of being at one with the world blah blah. And yeah, whenever I visit him he's never working on anything lol.6 points

Ever been called a tattoo snob?
gougetheeyes and 4 others reacted to G.Uristti for a topic
ive been tattooing for a good while and i used to tell people who had bad tattoos that they had bad tattoos. i realized its not cool. everyone that loves their own tattoos think they have the best tattoos ever. so unless im amongst other tattooers i never speak about who has bad tattoos or what tattoos are bad. and truth be told some clients that know too much about the whos who and whats what in tattooing annoy the shit outta me as much as the clients that ask for hoodie ghosts ( grim reaper) and that leads me to another topic. all of us at the shop have been comprising a list of stupid shit clients ask for: rosemarie beads, gangsta clap, happy face sad face, curvis, scripture, broke back girls, skeleton heads, falcon birds, 3D tattoos, angel babies and realistic dragons(not too many pics of them around anymore)5 points -

Nope. The whole "tattoo acceptance in the workplace" movement (or whatever it is) rubs me the wrong way. Sure, I'd prefer someone judge my work performance on its own merit and not pass me over for a promotion because they know I have tattoos, but i certainly don't expect them to cater to me. Want me to keep my arms covered at work? Cool, you got it. Don't want to hire someone with a throat tattoo? Cool, I'll keep that in mind and weigh how much I want a position with Company X vs. how much I want to tattoo my throat. And when people call it discrimination and compare it to being denied a job due to race or gender or orientation, it REALLY pisses me off. To me tattoos are supposed to be tough and somewhat unaccepted, and every special snowflake expecting to be catered to drives me nuts. It's awesome if you have a job that is cool with your tattoos...my current one happens to be, but if my boss ever asked me to keep my sleeves rolled down, it wouldn't be an issue. Also, it seems that most of the people clamoring for "tattoo acceptance" have absolute shit tattoos and most people with quality work don't mind covering up when needed.4 points

Support your industry

I have noticed that there are a lot more of these "tattoo supply delivery" trucks entering the supply market. I think it's important that our money, the industry money, be invested back into our industry, or into peoples businesses who care about our industry. We are being preyed upon by companies who view us as a resource to be tapped. Don't let laziness open the door for these opportunists to leech off of us. Spend your money on quality products from quality vendors. Those trucks supply the kitchen wizards and unchecked amateurs that are cancer to our business2 points -

I wouldn't tell someone coming into the shop that their tattoo was bad, unless they offered up that info. Even then usually try to make it seem not as bad as they think it is, if anything to avoid getting involved in a cover up situation. But like you said people should feel good about their tattoos. If you put good tattoos on people with bad tattoos they are sure to get it at some point. Even sometimes when it's just tattooers in the shop, I think the shit talking about who's tattoos are good can be too much. Most of us want to talk about the good tattoos we see, but there are always a couple tattooers who want to tell you why this tattooer sucks or that tattoo sucks and then tell you about how good the guy doing their back piece is. If they act like that in front of clients I can see why they have so much time for walk ins.2 points -

Tattoo Snob, Beer Snob, Food Snob, Clothes Snob, Music Snob...... I wear many hats. Funny all those people still call me when they want a tattoo or are traveling and want to find a restaurant or brewery. - - - Updated - - - I think their our different context for being a snob as well, talking with tattooers and people who get heavily tattooed their usually is a general understanding of what good work is and why some tattoos are bad. Outsiders might not have that eye for tattooing and just see subject matter they like and since you are tearing it shreds you are a snob. I use the example of taxidermy, I don't have a clue about what makes a good mount but love looking at the stuff, I might think a mount is cool just because the animal is cool even though the work is sub par.2 points -

Tattoos and the workplace
Reyeslv reacted to slayer9019 for a topic
I never looked at work as a place to express myself or be anything more than a damn good employee. From my experience there is a reason that most corporate jobs have a boring dress code is so that the focus is on what you say an do and not how you look. Since only one person I have worked with has ever known I had a tattoo (he only knew about one haha), I have had a good insight to what people think about tattoos. I have had to grit my teeth though they trash talking tattooed folks at the starbucks we go to. I threw out some defensive arguments but I also treat it like talking politics at work...tread lightly. I did laugh when one of them did say "they would never be able to work with us at XYZ Big Corp...oh would they be surprised. Like I have learned in the past, it's best to leave personal life outside of work. I avoid way more than just tattoos at work. I also avoid any "touchy" subjects or subjects with very varying views. Politics, music, lifestyle-choices, drinking, guns, drugs, and actually a lot of current events. Hell I've heard people spout their opinions that changed my view of them (ultra-ultra-conservative usually). I once got in a little bit of a heated debate over gun laws with some colleges and lets just say it was not appropriate to discuss strong opinions at work (specifically concealed carry) . Learned my lesson.1 point -
Need some advice on a "family" piece
taaarro reacted to David Flores for a topic
Your kids are always going to be your kids, even your step daughter really. I got my first son's name tattooed on my arm, about a year later me and his mom went our separate ways and found out during custody hearing that I wasn't the father. Long story short I still have the tattoo, in fact I am glad I have it because I don't see him that much and it helps me not forget him as a baby. I got the skull below while my son was in the womb (I used to joke that it was a portrait of him in the womb.) and added his name after he was born. I haven't got my wife's name but I do have a cookie cutter heart with keyhole and she has a skeleton key.1 point -
