  4. Another piece by @Nick Colella of CTC, one-day notice to get it. Far as he can figure, Tom Berg did the flash in the thirties, and it's been on the wall fo the shop for some decades... First step in filling in the rest of my left arm, and it should work. I have some very old western-style stuff like a panthers head on that arm, as well as some fairly old (1982-1984) Jap style work, so we have to kinda get a blending going on. Thought this piece did that well. There will be one more fairly major piece, and then fill. Pix aren't the best, but you get the idea....I know this isn't the most rad and popluar styling, but hey, old flash for an old guy! Background of the shop is kinda kool, too.

  5. Really? Nobody has mentioned Kaleidascope Tattoo yet? Kaleidoscope Tattoo Art Studio - Best Studio Tattoo in Sydney Stevie Edge is the only tattooer at the shop who I really know of, but looking through the portfolios, it seems like a really nice shop. - - - Updated - - - Oh and @petepunter I would avoid going with something like the tattoo you posted above, as it has no outline and is already nearly the same color as that persons skin, if your going to go with color I highly suggest getting something with a black outline to hold all the colors in and make them look nice. From what I've read, and from what I'm sure a lot of people here will tell you, no outline tattoos tend not to age well.

  6. Interesting update: I just had my annual review with my boss. He said he'd actually like to see expose more of my tattoos as work, as I'm a "creative" (copywriter) and he wants me to feel as comfortable as possible. I mentioned that I keep mostly covered because a lot of the folks in our company are fairly uptight, but he said, "Fuck them." We'll see how it goes!

Just booked another one with Ron Wells at the Montreal convention. I'm not sure what yet, probably something from his flash...I really love that skull with the forest path in it but there are so many things Ron has done that I would be proud to wear so we'll see what grabs me on the day. Starting a sleeve with Thomas Hooper at the end of October. Booked for a bunch of sessions next spring for a tiger on my ribs with Dave Cummings but when we have our second consultation in December I am going to see if we can change that to a back piece instead of a tiger fighting a snake.

Got my piece from Nick last night, great stuff! Flash drawn by Tom Berg sometime in the thirties...but ya gotta go to the contest section to see it. While we were there, my Lady couldn't resist a lil more Sailor Jerry flash, and Nick was kind enough to fit it in-between my work and his next appointment.

    When you got tattooed

15 when I got my first tattoos then some hand poked tattoos on my fingers, done in Approved School (Reform School) I had them removed a couple of years later. Then a forty year wait till my next tattoo. It's all been a bit of a blur since then.

oh, big surprises in store people...Jesse Smith wins....call me psychic. I know the competition looks tough ( rolls eyes ) ....and I dont even like "new school" but I won't deny talent. This whole thing seems like a rigged competition in order to be a drawn out TV commercial for the 1 dude with true skills. These shows are bad news for ethical tattooist who actually care about the industry. terrible. I can't even express how miserable this whole thing is. If the show was loaded with awesome artist, I would be singing a different tune. But, well, I suppose it is like hoping to see a real life unicorn...it just is not gonna happen. Sorry if I offend anyone, not my intention....getting people to be more critical of bad tattooing and ethical tattooing IS my intention. These shows cheapen the whole thing by putting bone-head hacks on a pedestal and calling them "worlds best"....

  20. My father was Eddie ' Tex ' Peace who started our business in 1934. I have tattooed for 50 yrs now , and my wife Jennie has tattooed for 40 . Of course, our preferred style is traditional, but exceptions can be made. My wife and I also run the Eddie ' Tex ' Peace Tattoo Archives , which holds quite a few surprises! I'll be posting pics of different items later after I get this one down. Patience!

    Tattoos and the workplace

I work as a brewer and while I'm not certain that wearing long sleeves is disallowed, it generally isn't done for safety reasons. You can't have shirt sleeves caught in motors or mills or conveyors and the like, not to mention the heat of the brewhouse in the summer, so basically if it can't be covered by a t-shirt it will be on display. Plenty of people I work with have visible tattoos and it isn't an issue at all in day to day work. I don't know what they would mean in terms of promotion to management but there is so little upward mobility in the company that I'm not sure it matters that much. They have hired people with hand and neck tattoos to work the bottling line before so there's always that ad an option if you have job stoppers. Wouldn't want to work that job though.

I have 3 sessions for my back with S. Robson at the Bay Area convention. Hoping to do a walk-up with either Eli Quinters or Thomas Hooper (bucket list) while at the convention. Just saw on IG the Cris Cleen is going to be in LA, I'm contemplating asking for an appointment. Also, I have a trip planned to London, March of 2013 and I have 2 days scheduled with S. Robson on the back.

Right? Seeing as how my fiance and I are both suckers for terrible reality television and I really enjoy Oliver Peck, we'll definitely be watching the second season of this shitshow. I was genuinely hoping that there would be more traditional tattooers this season though. I think my favorite piece from the bios was "Though he may ink others for a living, Jamie himself has only one tattoo, a black light piece located on the side of his neck." They managed to pack so many things I hate into just one sentence.

I started way too young (15) then had about 11 yr layoff got some half ass covers then another 10 year without any and it wasn't until I started thinking of laser removal and found LST that I really started an appreciation for The art of Tattoos and Tattooing.

  43. I got the first part of my phoenix rising tattoo this past weekend. It was my first tattoo. We sat for 5 hours and it's safe to say I have the bug and can't wait for more big pieces. I will be going to finish up with the coloring (red, yellow , orange) for the flames with blue/purple clouds beyond for some dimension. Artist: Justin Jakus - Black Diamond Tattoo (Venice, CA) - He had a very light hand and all in all great experience for my first time. I will be getting it colored September 1st so I hope I can show you all the finished product.
