  1. I got some Tudor roses from Stuart Cripwell, then went back and had him add stems: Shouts to @nicky papers. This is what was pokin' out in that pic you commented on. :)

  2. I had a trauma doc at my hospital buy my partner and I coffee for doing some kick-ass patient care today. The dude still died, but felt good to hear a doc tell me I did a good job rather than yelling at me for not doing "enough". This was even after he threw up nasty coffee-ground vomit all over the team.

    Lady Heads

Didn't see any mention of Brad Stevens so far. His lady heads are my favourite. I've got this one from him: and here are some others he's done:

  5. Since becoming single unexpectedly, I've had a major fire under my butt to get in shape- physically and mentally. Since May 9th I've lost 45lbs. I ride my bike 20 miles a day for fun. I've radically altered my eating habits. I go to the gym every day. Instead of staying on my couch eating a bag of m&ms, I'm ziplining in the Pocono Mountains. Things like that. Instead of bitching that my life changed without my consent, I'm going to therapy to work on my noodle; make myself an even better person.

  6. Funny I just squeezed this chain in a couple weeks ago, you can kind of see in the pic that it is coming out of slits on the top of my shoulder. I always wish I had planned my front better, but never really thought about it, just got tattooed.

  7. This is kinda lame, but making my 7 month old daughter laugh is my favourite thing to do right now. You know, before she hits 13 and despises her parents.

  11. My 17 year old son came into town a few weeks ago and he's an avid fisherman. He's always been into it, but I never took the time to go out with him to the lake when he was younger. Well, this time, I went out with him and brought my two daughters and fiance as well and had a blast. Right before he went back home, we stopped at the local Academy and I bought a cheap rig for myself and my oldest daughter (my youngest already had a pee wee rig). Went out once last weekend with just the girls and they got bored (probably not early enough to catch anything). This weekend, I went out with my girl and fished twice- once in the morning, once in the evening. Damn, it was so relaxing. I didn't catch anything, but I really just enjoyed sitting in the quiet listening to the woods breathe. I also dropped my bike off at a cool local shop to fix a head gasket leak. It's been an issue for several years, but I'd put it off because I'd already switched the gaskets once (different shop) and my pride wouldn't let me spend another $500+ doing the same repair. I finally came to senses and got tired of getting my jeans/ lower leg covered in scalding oil and it is now being fixed correctly. Lastly, I'm putting together a grand opening art show here in town with local printer Mindzai Creative (also in Atlanta) called "ATX Works: The Working Class Show" theme chosen because it falls the weekend before Labor Day. I've meeting with Scott at Mindzai a few nights a week to work out artists, sponsors, fliers, DJ, etc. Last artshow I put together was years ago, so it's been a re-learning process.

  20. After getting enrolled on Friday, I came home yesterday and there was a letter giving us mortgage pre-approval. So, school and a new home in the immediate future. Good shit. I would like to extend a big thanks to this people on and that run this site. It may sound odd, because it's just a website, but I've taken a lot of inspiration from this place. I've seen a dedication and focus in the tattoo community that it such a great influence. You really can do what you put your mind to if you REALLY put your mind to it. @Jake Anderson are you Orthodox by any chance? I live in Kentucky not far from where your recent service trip was, and I know there is an Orthodox monastary close that's pretty cool.

  24. Awesome. You'll have a leg up on all the young kids. Motivation, work ethic, and paying for your own shit tends to keep things in perspective. I went back to school in my 30s and graduated last year with my BSc. in Computing Science. Try not to get mad at the kids' sense of entitlement. They usually had me speak at orientation, because I would lay down the polite version of "Nobody owes you shit, and no one is responsible for your success but you. Your profs don't care, they are here to do research and are usually forced to teach, which many of them hate (and it shows)." But, you know...with some jokes thrown in...Ahem.

  25. I finally managed to bust out a razor and clean my leg up for the first time since I got this done back at Ink N' Iron a few months ago. Queen inspired piece done by Steve Byrne. I apologize if the picture is somewhat dim. It was the best shot I could get with my phone.

  27. Prior to getting tattooed in NYC, I totally did the tourist thing of going to the Statue of Liberty. That was a lot of fun. But, Thursday night a bunch of pals and I got together and made guitar pedals using perfboard and following schematics. That was awesome, mostly b/c I cannot solder for shit.

  31. Yeah but maybe since it was dug up we will find out what happened to that tattoo, my bet is he is still wearing it. Coverups are for names of girls you are no longer dating and that tattoo you got while drunk in vegas on the strip, not a Eli Quinters tattoo. - - - Updated - - - I really could see it going either way. I could see someone like Eli who stays pretty busy just deciding he doesn't want to try to cover up something he put there with intention of being solid for the rest of the persons life. It would a lot more work than slapping a black panther over a barely their scrappy tattoo. Obviously people can do what they want with their tattoos, and I am sure he wouldn't care about it like some priceless masterpiece. On the otherhand maybe he would want the chance to be the one to cover it. But ultimately everyone suggested for the OP to go back to and talk to him in hopes they would talk him into keeping the tattoo.

  32. I just got back two weeks ago from a service trip to West Virginia (I'm from North Dakota). My parish took a group of 8, and travelled with a group of 14, and spent a week working for and with the locals in Delbarton and Williamson, WV. It was most excellent.

  35. Neato...someone quoted my first post here on LS; thank you very much. Well, as long as were on this subject, I'd like to share a couple of experiences that I feel are pretty interesting...they've become lore amongst the friends and artists I work around, so I hope you dig 'em too. FIRST- During my apprenticeship, in 1992, my mentor, Mr. G at The Ink Zone Tattoo in Lodi N.J. taught me an important lesson in the things I may do to my clients as a professional tattooist, and how they may feel.....with the educational variable of how they were "supposed" to feel. Both Mr.G and I did small to moderate sized areas of "needle work", using a solution of distilled water and Green Soap so as not to make any permanent marks, since this was just an exercise, and "tattooed" almost every conceivable part of my body.....EVERY PART! Some of these sessions consisted of up to 3hrs. of work, punctuated by direction and Q&A. I've felt confident during the span of my career giving answers to the popular client question," where do you think it hurts the worst? " based on my personal experience. Now wait...I admit, I may not have full knowledge of what longer sessions feel like in many areas, or what it feels like to receive work in those same places by an artist with the determination to make solid and or bold lines, as well as solid color and or perfect blends. ( Man, please excuse my grammar today!) Since then, I have taught two "students" most of what I knew about the art of tattooing, who, with encouragement to also develop techniques on their own based on the unique strengths they possessed, but regretfully, did not put them through the same rigors of understanding the "feel" like my mentor had with me. I remembered that I had a tough time healing these areas, and while I didn't necessarily get infections, I did experience the "crash" of my immune system when I got a lot of this "green soap work" at once. To this day, longer amounts of needle time seem to make my ear, nose, and throat system act up. This is why i chose not to pass on the lesson, but nevertheless, both of my students became very talented, accomplished tattooists. Smiles. Well, since that got rather wordy, I'll make the 2nd and 3rd stories quick.....I had Grime begin my sleeve/chest plate in 2 sessions, but 4 days apart. He was on a guest tour, and I reserved as much time as I could, and he informed me that by keeping the 1st days work wrapped until the next session, I'd be fine. I also had 2 artist work on me at one time. They were guests at my shop during our local tattoo convention. Both of these experiences were very educational, and I feel I can now give advice regarding them. Both hurt a lot, and the particularly "extreme" parts of both felt unlike any other tattoo I've ever received. Both sucked and I'll never do either again...I would advise the same, LOL. The end. I hope no one fell asleep....

    The ole spider webs

Love spider webs on elbows and @bulldog, I'd just go for it. I remember before I got my first tattoo, I wanted two big nautical stars and got put off of em by a coworker who convinced me they were "hardcore" tattoos (he had the Madball ball) and I'd get beat up if anyone saw 'em. Not that I regret NOT getting nautical stars, but in hindsight it seems really stupid to listen to other peoples' little two cents and subcultural suggestions. I also like webs on the knees, but who knows, maybe that means you been spending too much time on your knees giving bjs in prison.

  38. New here; this is what I'm working on now. They're all tributes to my family. ladybug for my daughter: ship for my son: anchor for my wife: rose for my mom: wrenches and socket for my dad: diamond for my brother: heart for lost loved ones: Outlines took two sessions, and I'll start filling color on August 9. Eventually it'll be a full sleeve, but am leaving the area near my shoulder open for the time being to allow pieces to be added to it. Thanks for looking!

  44. A lot of good input here that I think the people on the receiving end could use. I for one think so much of the trend in realism or turning your nose up at convention and tradition comes from the "look what I can do" mindset when really, it should be, "look what I can offer you" a lot of new school/no school tattooers are so caught up in their own abilities that he guidelines learned through decades of experienced tradesmen before us are seen as an obstruction when they are really the path. A tattoo that only looks good now is about the tattoo artist, one that looks good 5, 15, 30 years later is about the client. I want my work to look good long after my client has forgotten my name.
