  1. Tattoos are just tattoos. That would be like saying everyone who got an anchor tattoo is a sailor or everyone who got a tribal tattoo was a cage fighter.

  5. If you draw them, and you give someone else in your shop your drawing to do the tattooing, is that a Squid Pro Quo?!?!?!?! - - - Updated - - - Hate to tell ya this, but records have been called vinyl's ever since they were the hi-tech ticket. I wouldn't say, "my inks", but I would say "my ink". I imagine that's a prime no-no, but it was/is common usage in the Chicago area.

  8. got my first tattoo on the inside of my left bicep, thought it hurt so fucking bad. got one a while later same spot other side, by jaie and really it felt pretty good. not bad at all. was kinda dreading it. both tattoos with big solid lines and pretty solid color. bob at perfection seems to take it pretty easy i think. the little spider i got on my bicep just above the ditch on my arm was pretty enjoyable. cris cleen wasn't bad but that thing was also on the outside of my arm. jaie devore put something in the same spot on the other arm and that was an easy sit too. jaie put something on the inside of my calf, midway between the ankle and knee, kinda rotated towards the shin bone a bit and that thing hurt. alot. so sharp and hot there. dammit, i want a piece from chris but hearing you say that...makes me feel no rush to get that done. lol.

Well , here it goes little boys!!! I read the beginning of the thread and thought, fuck it, i am showing the picture; that is my baby ( bike). And me. I am old enough to be your mom, and not a hot babe , but lost 60 lbs and showed it off at the biker's reunion. By the way that is the only visible tattoo. You have to be a real close friend to see the rest.... But my baby is mine, yamaha vstar1100 canadian edition. I would cut my arm instead of selling my bike...

Hey, I'm old, so I've got old-skool (did I just piss someone off with that k?) about things...times have changed so much in the last few decades, and so much has found it's way into the popular culture, that I doubt work like that would cause you any hassle. Unless you do it with a machine made from a tape-player and a bic pen, and use india ink!!!

  14. Funny a couple of years ago a client and friend of the shop was dating this girl who was starting tattoo school. It was her birthday so he bought her a tattoo, but was at work so she came in to get it alone. She brought a bunch of Milton Zeis reference and a Stoney St Clair Sheet repainted by Danny Reed that is in the revisited book. She wanted a crawling panther type design like on those sheets, but with leopard spots. Pretty straightforward design, piece of cake. She must have made one of the guys draw it like eight times. First it was too simple, then he drew a better cat and it wasn't enough like the flash, there was a bunch of nonsense about the claws and putting eyelashes on it, but this went on for like an hour, the whole time she was trying to ask a bunch of questions about being a tattooer. So the last time we just handed her a piece of paper and a pencil and told her to draw what she wanted. She claimed she didn't work well with pencil and paper and did all her drawings on computer. At that point my boss got up from the back and asked her point blank "You actually think you are going to become a tattooer? I can't wait to see how you deal with a customer like you. " At that point she was instructed that these were not the droids she was looking for and decided to leave before she was asked to.

  15. i was tattooing at the long island convention this past weekend. and some chick wanted a lightening bolt on her arm. she said she was a tattooer and had been at it 18 years. she had no visible tattoos. so i drew the lightening bolt on her three times and everytime she looked at it she kept saying to her friend " you know how i am" eventually she said sorry nevermind gave me 20 bucks and said "im gonna get it at my shop." lmfao. amazing!

So glad Crispy got a nod on this thread, I love his lady faces. I want to get a pair of them, one on each forearm, but at the moment I'm not entirely sure I am ready to make the commitment to public skin so will probably have to visit him in Australia for them as I believe he is going back soon. This is one of my faves of his:

  20. The next day after my incident we went to our buddys shop downtown to hang out for the afternoon and told him the story and he said that they had tattooed a similar design on a girl fitting that description the night before. He didn't do the tattoo so he couldn't attest to what interaction there was, but he approached the tattoo in the same manner, but I guess she had a few tattoos from him and his shop is downtown not in Beaverton so it was cooler. I have nothing against those guys in fact that is where I go to get my tattoos, and hang out. Funny end to the story she now is a tattooer and works at a shop in Beaverton and still has no clue how to draw.

    The ole spider webs

I think if I was moving to my elbows (or knees) I'd have my upper arms or legs covered ie use the web as filler. I'd also put a big freaking spider or girl head in it, but that's me. I don't get this "tattoo the most awkward spot" thing when people have large swaths of empty space that could be easily tattooed.

  30. I feel like heavy people often decide specifically to not get big tattoos becuase they think it'll make their big parts look bigger. When in fact, the opposite is true, in my opinion. Don't go small. Go big. It'll be awesome.

  32. Interesting discussion. My girl is kind of insecure about the size of her ass and legs, and her plans of getting a couple of huge pieces on her thighs have made her stoked about showing them off and generally feeling better about herself. Do whatever you feel, society's standards are irrelevant.

  37. 5'10", 89kg/196lb As a fat woman: fuck body hate, get tattooed. To elaborate: being both fat and disabled, I've had issues with my body for a long time. The act of getting tattooed (facing a chronic pain and sensitivity problem) and the act of BEING visibly tattooed is, for me, extremely empowering. I'm not the typical "hot tattooed chick", and it is glorious. It's a way to take back this vessel I've been cursed/blessed with, and to feel more comfortable going through life in it. Plus, tattoos are awesome.

  38. Most of the bigger tattooed ladies I have seen (or tattooed) had something tiny done on them. I am personally not a fan of teeny tiny tattoos on anybody (especially if they're of the super girly variety or consist of microscopic text) because I believe that bigger is better... and I believe the same for larger ladies too. When I see a big woman with a tiny butterfly on her ankle I think to myself how cool it would be if she had a giant tiger or panther or dagger/skull or something. I love the look of people with great tattoos no matter how many extra pounds they might be packing. And I have no doubt that when I have more extensive work on myself, I'll feel a little more comfortable in my own skin.

  40. The Bible does say you should not mark your skin. Next time tell them it also says "Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned," "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." and "Why do you see the speck in your neighbor's eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye?" These hypocrites only read the part of the bible that allows them to be judgmental blowhards. As to the stares, I'm 6'2" 195 with hair halfway down my back. I stare back :-)

  41. Been a while since I last posted, but yesterday I finally, finally, finally got to start my ROA backpiece. First session finished and the main part of the outline is done! I meant to get started on this tattoo at the 1st of April, but got sidelined with some back and hip issues. It's a crappy cellphone pic and I wasn't exactly standing up straight, but you can get the general jest of it. The ribs and lower back portion hurt like Hell, but it was well worth it. I'm pretty stoked about it. Tattooed by Paul Pearson at Tried & True Tattoo in Smyrna Tn. (and there's a cover-up of an old 101st Airborne tattoo going on in there too).

  44. There is such a thing as a Light handed tattooer? I always thought it was a myth, like Bigfoot or the abimondible snow man. Actually there was one guy who tattooed me with quite a light hand, but it took him 6 hours to do a 2 hour tattoo (of course he charged by the hour), so by the end I think it hurt just as bad as any other tattoo session.

  45. There's a push for SUPER conceptual 'old timey' stuff so they can 'out oldschool' each other. Some of the stuff, by well respected tattooers, looks to me like a five year old drew it. I mean, whatever folks want to get is fine by me, but until people start calling it out.... it's only going to get worse.
