    Losing a Parent

I lost my mother two years ago (this month) and I tell you... It's something that I've learned to deal with but am not really the same after. My Mom was a spitfire- 5'1" of Southern Baptist with a heart of gold. When I was a teenager she rewarded me for graduating early by lying to a tattooer (said I was 17 instead of 15) to get my first tattoo. Over the years she supported me in my endeavors no matter how strange, and was my biggest cheerleader. I am who I am because my mother was who she was; little mannerisms or phrases, values she instilled in me carving out the adult I've become. I miss being able to talk to her, but years of her advice and her guiding me towards the right decisions have paid off and I'm stronger because of her. Mourn your Dad, but let his memory ease your burden. My condolences to you and your family right now.

  3. I guess people are expecting to hear from 'us' about this. While Jordan is lucky to be alive, his luck extended far enough that the only injury he suffered was his broken legs, serious enough but it's amazing that he isn't even slightly concussed. I'm not offering any new personal information or progress reports about Jordan's status. Jordan, while positive and open, was always reluctant to share personal (especially family) information, especially on the internet. Most of what I will say is scattered across comments on Instagram anyway. Aaron from True Tattoo is with him and I guess he'll be making updates via Instagram. We at Frith Street have arranged to send Jordan's girlfriend to go to LA to be with him. Some of us will be taking care of his cat and anything to do with his family back home. His financial obligations here in the UK will be taken care of. Jordan had travel insurance and the driver who hit him also had insurance. While that will most likely cover his medical bills, he and his girlfriend still need to eat, sleep, travel, attempt to be comfortable, etc etc. thousands of miles from home. The donations received via PayPal will go to help Jordan pay for the non-medical things he needs. When he's recovered, surplus funds will be donated to a charity of Jordan's choosing. Jordan is apparently in good spirits, making jokes and generally 'being Jordan', minus the acrobatics. He was upset the the paramedics had to cut off his favourite pair of jeans. Cards, gifts, flowers, lewd drawings, whatever, can be sent to Jordan via True Tattoo, Hollywood and the guys there will pass them on. I would like to stress the importance of lewd drawings - the more disgusting, the better. He also likes European chocolate and milkshakes. I would, on behalf of myself and everyone at Frith Street, like to express our enormous gratitude to everyone who has donated money, gifts, cards, time, tattoo machines, positive thoughts, etc, etc to Jordan. It's very humbling and testament to the strength of Jordan's character and the sense of community in the tattoo world. It's hugely appreciated. Special thanks to Aaron from True Tattoo, Jordan is lucky to have such a friend with him right now. Thank you, we wish him a speedy recovery.

Saw Bon Scott and AC/DC live in Oxford in 1976. Bon hurt himself when he fell off the stage. He carried on the last couple of numbers sitting on a chair. Great band!

Less is more buddy! Sounds like you may be paying it a little too much attention.. Let your body heal itself and let the wound actually get time to heal before you start dousing it with water and lotion.

  7. I literally just went down to Frith Street last friday to book in for my first tattoo with Jordan. Gutted to hear about this. I got a phone call from the shop this morning explaining what had happened. Super impressed at how quickly they thought to let customers know in what must be a really difficult situation. Although I haven't met jordan yet, I wish him a speedy recovery. I'm willing to wait as long as it takes for him to be back and healthy so I can a great tattoo, even if I fill up the rest of my arm around the spot I've got saved! Jay.

  10. Check it out everyone, Dice Magazine and True South Relief Fund will be hosting a benefit on Saturday July 28th at True Tattoo in Hollywood. If you're in the Southern California area then come on by and show your support for a good cause, there will be lot's of great stuff being auctioned off, such as one-off tattoo machines, custom painted motorcycle helmets, prints, paintings and drawings. It’ll be a good time and a good positive vibe.

  11. So sorry to hear about this! Fellow machine builder Matt Quale and myself built a machine that we are auctioning off to help Jordan with his recovery. All proceeds got to Mr. Teear and we wish him all the best. Here's a link to the auction.

  21. Got more work done on the Sleeve of Science. Last week was adding the Abacus, and lots of background elements (blood lines for more smoke, some galaxies, line work for planets, etc). Abacus from elbow ditch to just below armpit was not the most fun. This week was the entire chest panel: (large version in the album, or you can click on the one above). This was done yesterday, so, obviously, imagine all the blues to be properly muted when it is healed (some of the same blues used in the wolf coverup on the other chest panel). Good news: As long as this heals properly, I never "have" to get tattooed on my chest ever again!

  25. I've seen a lot of cool stuff around lately with horses, buffalo, and other animals all shot up with arrows. I'm wondering if this is gonna be a new big thing (i hope so, it's fucking metal). Got any good ones you've seen or done or gotten? I can't seem to locate any at the moment and it's tearing a hole out of my soul.

  29. I met a chick once who asked if she could lick my tattoos. After brief consideration I obviously consented. Other than that, the only people who are like "your tattoos are stupid, quit getting them" are my friends, because I'm always broke. I need new friends. Or a sugar daddy. Any takers?

  39. Best to him and hopes for a good recovery. Same old..."I didn't see the motorsickle"! Only two kinds of riders, those that have been down, and those that will be. I've found that aftr the first few times you get splashed, you tend to be a LOT more observant and careful. At least you gotta get something out of it.

  44. I love the "your body is a temple" logic against tattoos. It is the perfect example of using something totally out of context. I am a bit rusty on my bible study, but I am 90% sure that when Jesus said that he was referring to prayer. I think that he had travelled to the temple and everyone there was acting like an asshole so he stood outside and said "fuck the temple, it has become a real fucking mess, so just pray wherever you are. Your body is the temple and wherever you pray God will hear you" I am not sure when that was turned into "don't get that anchor on your arm". I know that there is a line or two in there about don't mark yourself, but there at least that many lines about not eating bacon as well.
