Jordan from Frith Street Acciident
Chelsea Shoneck and 11 others reacted to Stewart Robson for a topic
I guess people are expecting to hear from 'us' about this. While Jordan is lucky to be alive, his luck extended far enough that the only injury he suffered was his broken legs, serious enough but it's amazing that he isn't even slightly concussed. I'm not offering any new personal information or progress reports about Jordan's status. Jordan, while positive and open, was always reluctant to share personal (especially family) information, especially on the internet. Most of what I will say is scattered across comments on Instagram anyway. Aaron from True Tattoo is with him and I guess he'll be making updates via Instagram. We at Frith Street have arranged to send Jordan's girlfriend to go to LA to be with him. Some of us will be taking care of his cat and anything to do with his family back home. His financial obligations here in the UK will be taken care of. Jordan had travel insurance and the driver who hit him also had insurance. While that will most likely cover his medical bills, he and his girlfriend still need to eat, sleep, travel, attempt to be comfortable, etc etc. thousands of miles from home. The donations received via PayPal will go to help Jordan pay for the non-medical things he needs. When he's recovered, surplus funds will be donated to a charity of Jordan's choosing. Jordan is apparently in good spirits, making jokes and generally 'being Jordan', minus the acrobatics. He was upset the the paramedics had to cut off his favourite pair of jeans. Cards, gifts, flowers, lewd drawings, whatever, can be sent to Jordan via True Tattoo, Hollywood and the guys there will pass them on. I would like to stress the importance of lewd drawings - the more disgusting, the better. He also likes European chocolate and milkshakes. I would, on behalf of myself and everyone at Frith Street, like to express our enormous gratitude to everyone who has donated money, gifts, cards, time, tattoo machines, positive thoughts, etc, etc to Jordan. It's very humbling and testament to the strength of Jordan's character and the sense of community in the tattoo world. It's hugely appreciated. Special thanks to Aaron from True Tattoo, Jordan is lucky to have such a friend with him right now. Thank you, we wish him a speedy recovery.12 points -

I am sure you have heard of him but just in case I recommend checking out Brian Kaneko. I am pretty sure he apprenticed with the Salmons. He does a real nice Horitoshi inspired style. His peonies are probably the finest I have seen.3 points

Sorry for your loss I know it's hard but it does get easier everyday as you except the loss and move forward. I lost my Dad 2 years ago and I still miss him everyday but know its part of the cycle of life.. I got a nice tattoo as a memorial to him and you know a tattoo fixes everything.2 points

From my personal experience get what you think looks good and put no more thought into it. If you force something out of a tattoo it will be "exactly what you asked for but not what you wanted".2 points -

Best to him and hopes for a good recovery. Same old..."I didn't see the motorsickle"! Only two kinds of riders, those that have been down, and those that will be. I've found that aftr the first few times you get splashed, you tend to be a LOT more observant and careful. At least you gotta get something out of it.2 points -
I didn't get tattooed, but i made a trip to Amsterdam with a friend this last weekend and saw the museum. If you haven't been go. Then go again. And just so there's something to look at: (it's a good thing she took this picture, because i can't find my ticket anymore.)2 points

I'm stealing these from a friend on facebook, too good not to post here.. They are on his granddad who got them from Paul Rogers and R.L. Connelly (not sure who did which) sometime between 1952-53 in Jacksonville, NC. This is after 50 years of working in construction.2 points -

I don't ever re-wrap my tattoos and I don't typically recommend doing that. If your skin is wrinkly like after a bath then it is definitely too moist. I personally would unwrap it, wash it and then just let it air out. If it seems kinda of goopy and wet then I wouldn't put any type of ointment or lotion on it yet either. Let it dry out a little and see if that helps. I've had some tattoos that have been very heavily packed with black and they get a little goopy like ink is coming out if I pat it with a paper towel. I have always jet let them dry out for a few days (regular cleaning but no lotion) and they have healed fine.1 point

My Pops was 82 and retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas. Calls me up and asks if I'm gonna visit them that summer, and I said, yeah, of course. Tells me I best to do it quick. Guy was 6'4, 250 pounds up into his sixties when the cancer hit, but by then, he was down to maybe 140, 160. Had "beat" the cancer, but had emphesyma. My youngest son had just been born, he was like a month old, but we made plans and drove down-ten hour drive with four kids, including an infant. Fun. Got there, everyone does the reunion trip with my 'rents, and my Pops, he sits in his rocking chair holding my month-old son, the one named after me. Sits with him for maybe an hour, we have a bite of lunch and a beer, and he sez "I don't feel so good, I'm gonna take a nap". Went to sleep and died within the hour. He was just waiting to meet the boy and to say goodbye to everyone-tough old fucker. Maintain.1 point -

Dunno how I feel about the opening of season 5. Still thinking it over. I am glad that they are showing things starting to hit the fan in big ways. Most shows would let you live the fairy tale for the whole series that you could be a huge drug dealer and never get caught. I wonder how this will pan out. I wonder if the computer trick worked? What's gonna come of what they found near the computer? Is Walt the new Gus? Ok yeah, after typing that I do like the new episode.1 point

is there a code of ethics that i am missing when walking into a shop as a newbie?
rozone reacted to gougetheeyes for a topic
Ok, @Brian Wermund, it seems silly to send you the link to the newbie guidelines since I'd be willing to bet you crafted this thread to specifically skirt all the rules about posting. But here it is: Last Sparrow Tattoo - Newbie Guidelines Not sure if you've received any PMs from the other mods on here but I'd expect one sooner rather than later. LST is a place to learn and it is a place to ask questions. It is not a place to post (not so) thinly veiled attempts to pat yourself on the back for tattooing out of your house and getting thrown out of a shop and pretending to be butthurt when strangers on the internet tell you you're wrong. I'm sure the experience won't change a thing. Anyway, I know stirring shit up online is fun in between appointments at the kitchen table, but maybe instead you can use that time to get your hands on some books and magazines or even take a look around the site. Through a little research you might notice that most people who were relegated to tattooing at home were either 15 or shortly thereafter were able to land a proper apprenticeship where they said, "Holy shit, thank god I'm on the right track." I've wasted way too much time on this response. And probably been way too nice. Just do us all a favor and stop trolling for a reaction. - - - Updated - - - Also, go get tattooed. At a shop.1 point -

pintindola reacted to missStark for a topic
I've spent the last 14 months scrubbing bathrooms, floors and tubes to get where I am. It isn't easy to find someone willing to dedicate their time to teach you their craft. You have to prove that this is truly where your heart is and it will be worth it to them. An apprenticeship isn't just learning to tattoo, it's paying your fucking dues. I have never had a problem just going into any shop. I have been able spend time with tattooers whom I really look up to and they have taught me many things even though they were not my mentor. Why? Because I'm doing it right and I've shown them the respect they deserve. That woman treated you the way you deserved to be treated.1 point -

My boss (Jack Witt) used to zap at a couple of different spots on the Pike (Lee Roy's, Long BeachTattoo) and has a killer scrapbook of vintage photos and business cards. I scanned all of them the other day. Being an ex-HA(apparently not an easy club to quit) and working on the Pike in the mid 70s, he has a boatload of great stories. I can't give ALL of the gems away, but here's some decent ones I can post.1 point
