  1. Hello, my name is Lindsey Carmichael. I work at Gold Rush Tattoo in Costa Mesa, CA. I am happy to finally be a part of a Scott's tattoo forum, the first forum or blog of any kind I've been connected with ever, and look forward to checking in often. Thank you for having me.

  5. Wow looks like a fun shop and a cool guy! Might have to swing by! I am definitely looking for a walk in point to flash and get tattooed in the same day experience. I like getting custom pieces and going to custom shops but I feel I need that on-the-spot tattoo experience.

  9. Keto 6 weeks report: down to 9.4% BF and down 3 pounds of fat while maintaining the lean mass number above. I stayed strict- LOTS of protein and fat, under 30 carbs a day w/ no cheat days. Coming back in, I've decided to move to TKD (one "cheat' hour a week at the end of my workout cycle where I eat whatever the hell I want. Last night it was a cupcake, lemon bar, and like 4 croisant wrapped sausages). I'm light, but I feel strong and haven't lost any noticeable strength in my lifts. To be honest, I can't wait til the Fall to start eating my brown rice and oats again. I also now have one more tattoo on my chest ;)

  10. Flyrite in W'burg, Three Kings in Greenpoint, True Blue in Queens (only shop I've visited in Queens).. Lots more. TTW seems to keep up for the walk-ins. I'm less familiar with Manhattan. But there's a ton in the west village! winkwinknudgenudge.

  11. The last time I was an unwilling guest of Suffolk County, there were gang tattoo pictures on the precinct walls where I was being booked. Obviously I'm inked.... I asked how come you don't want to take any pix of me, I was in a gang (when I was 14...)? They just looked at me and kept doing the fingerprint thing... CG

@sbrookins, too true and the last thing this industry needs to do is give up ownership of some of the fundamental elements...like the building and maintaining of a client base, building a reputation and controlling what we do and how we're perceived. If you sell off pieces of this thing to the entertainment industry and outside interests you don't get to cry foul when they abuse it. Sadly people that have the opportunity to do so are selling everybody's shares since, for better or worse, we're all in this together to a great extent. And yeah, all that aside what the hell Facebook generation is this that people just shoot out emails saying their guy should be on your site? Even if publicists had a place in our industry, that's a piss-poor example of one.

I think we are all sensible enough thats there's no need to address the Nazi equation , after all if I didn't mention it ,its not apparent . Anyway thanks to kind permission by Bill Loika heres a rare glimpse of some great old pics.

  15. So the itch to get tattooed is getting unbearable waiting for my next session and want to pick up something kinda small in the NJ-NYC area. Any good suggestions? I already know Smith Street is awesome but any other suggestions? (also any local artists chime in if you want). I also remember Thicker than Water being mentioned

  19. Update: Been doing the rubber band stuff that physio gave me for the shoulder, and my shoulder is 95% good. Sometimes gets tight, or when I sleep on it gets sore. Other than that, groovy! Finished my heavy deadlift routine earlier than intended. It just got too heavy. Did 2x130kg and then few other 2x with lower weight. Then few weeks from that started the 1RM and I was thinking that if I did 2x130kg, I will work up to 140kg in few weeks. Bullshit! :D did 132.5 x 1 and it was heavier than shit! I knew that have to step baaaack and start again. I did a 3 week rest and started last weeks with this http://www.ontariostrongman.ca/resources/training/magnusson_ortmayer_dl_program.xls I went way back on the weight. I put the projected max at 112kg. Reason is that the calculator is funny so it shows this as the 12th week work sets (sets, reps weight) And not 112kg. Even if you put it as the projected max. Well, dont care :P Reason I put it so low is the 8+ sets. I suck at long sets in the deadlift, so taking it easy :) My goal is a meager 160kg (180kg is my real goal, but I dont know if thats too much) at the end of next year. No rush.

I think one of the beautiful things about tattooing is that you basically are this jack of many trades, as in you have to be a pretty well rounded individual.. You can build your own machines and needles, make ink, make the flash for the tattoo, then make that into a tattoo, make the customer enjoy the experience, and then make your station ready for the next one.. There's a lot of different types of character building and sense of self in that whole deal, and when you start bringing other people into it to take care of the parts you're not so good at, it dilutes it. That's probably why a lot of the older guys get upset when younger tattooers don't even know how to make their own needles and inks, because to them it seems as if you're less pure of a tattooer.

  45. Completed my first GORUCK Challenge today. 13 hours, 14 miles with a 40 pound pack carrying all sorts of fucked up things around, walking down Van Ness without socks or shoes, and more push ups and flutter kicks than I can remember. And a few trips into the ocean. I suggest trying one out when it comes to a city near you. They are going international as well.
