OV is niche and I like it being niche. The guy's stuff was nicely done by it's just not the kind of stuff I feature. I might have considered it had the artist himself contacted me. But having a third party contact me was weird for me. Right now OV is me and Jennifer Stell. Eventually I'll have other people helping out, but they have to be people who get it. We're never going to take ad revenue (though for my birthday I'm going to ask for presents. Believe it!) and we're never going to be a general tattoo blog. So it's strange when I get email like that.7 points -

I think what this documentary is going to focus on is 'black and grey' tattooing and where it started. We have a lot of great stuff out there to watch about modern tattooing such as Tattoo Age and Gypsy Gentleman. We also have great documentaries to watch on our previous generation like the Ed Hardy and Sailor Jerry flicks, so I think it'll be nice to have a movie that helps define the birth of the fine-line black and grey style that is such a large part of our industry now. I think we'll find out that guys like Ed Hardy, Owen Jensen and Lee Roy Minugh aren't that far apart from guys like Charlie Cartwright, Freddy Negrete and Jack Rudy. I am personally really excited for this, but I guess my emotion is based on biased feelings towards my local childhood heros. Either way, I can't wait to see it.5 points -
I know I'm a couple pages behind on the response, but I was stoked to log in and see the Carmichael and Leu tattoos on the same page. Can we get less scratcher bullshit/ego stroking/personal validation threads and more awesome tattoos like these instead? Please and thank you.4 points

For me it is mostly just sad. She has earned every bit of shit she gets from the tattoo community. Her persona is embarrassing, and easy to hate. I think that she is just a really insecure person who got caught up in something that she had no idea how to handle. I was getting tattooed at True quiet a bit when she worked there and she was a nice person. She did not act like the idiot she became on tv. I can't say that I have a ton of insight into it, but I was getting tattooed by Chris when he found out he was going to be on a TV show. I remember the day he told me, and it sounded like a good idea at the time. We talked about the funny shit that happens, and how it would make a good show. No one knew what kind of a shit storm it was all going to turn into. It sounds naive now, but those guys really thought it would be a show about working in a tattoo shop. Now the sob story format has been burned into our brains, but I don't think anyone (besides the producers) had any idea that was the direction it would take. I think that Chris and Tim have survived the backlash of it all because their roles on the show were based on talent and not a persona. Nobody seems to hate Corey Miller either. The producers of those shows were smart enough to know that they needed something to anchor the shows, and give them some credibility. Everyone else got thrown under the bus. But you can't get hit by a bus if you're not standing in the street.3 points -
First of all, the guy takes me in early for my appointment. WTF? Then he has the nerve to have my tattoo already drawn up and looking perfect. The SOB even takes the time to work with me on size and placement. While he's tattooing me, he has a great conversation with my wife and treats her super nicely. Fucking unbelievable. He takes his time and gives me a gorgeous new tattoo, all the while acting like a consummate professional. Something has to be done about this guy. He's too nice, too professional, and too damn good.2 points

Kat worked at True Tattoo with Chris Garver, and Tim Hendricks. That is how she got on Miami Ink. She was married to Oliver at the time, but he didn't have anything to do with Miami Ink. - - - Updated - - - I hate publicists. I hate the word publicist. Everything about that profession is ingenuine and shitty.2 points -
Man, is that what it's come to?...never mind...yes. It seems like a publicist is someone you hire to speak for you when your work isn't...speaking for you. It's lost on me, this chase for fame. Do good work, make clients happy. I'm not opposed to acclaim but we have to do this for its own sake and if something else comes of it, fine. It should come your way because your work can't be ignored not because you paid someone to see that you're well positioned. All ubercurmudgeonly ranting aside, good on you for OV being the place to be seen.2 points

Hadn't seen a thread for this?.. saw the page yesterday on facebook, can't wait to see it - https://www.facebook.com/TattooNationMovie "New Feature Documentary Film, Coming October 2012 Tattoos used to be a sign of rebellion. A middle finger salute to the rest of the world. Outlaw bikers got tattoos. Sailors on leave in Singapore got tattoos. Lifers in the joint got tattoos. Now, your mother’s got a butterfly on her ankle and your kid’s sporting a tramp stamp. What happened? How did tattoos go from the renegade, readymade, carney cartoons inked as fast as possible to the art form they’ve become today? That transformation is the subject of the new documentary film, TATTOO NATION. TATTOO NATION tells how a few incarcerated but very talented Chicano artists changed the world of ink forever. It follows three tattoo pioneers, Charlie Cartwright, Jack Rudy and Freddy Negrete, and shows how a new, fine line style using detail and shading to achieve a remarkable realism revolutionized the world of ink. In 1975, Cartwright and Rudy boldly opened the first tattoo parlor in the heart of East LA’s Chicano community. They hired a recently paroled teenager who, while in jail, unknowingly established iconic images that spoke to an entire generation of Chicanos. Freddy Negrete became the first professional Chicano artist employed by a mainstream tattoo parlor - a tattoo parlor that was embraced as a new vehicle for self-expression by the Chicano community in East Los Angeles. For the first time, these legendary figures tell their stories in a feature-length documentary film. Included are other important figures such as David Oropeza and “Chuco” Caballero, winners of many prestigious tattoo competitions. Their victories brought international recognition to the uniquely American approach known as “Black & Grey”. The world of tattoo, and the way we regard tattoo, was forever changed."1 point

Just did a 300 mile round trip from PA, up one side of Seneca Lake and down the other with the main mission being a stop at Finger Lakes Distilling. They have such good stuff there. I tried their new pot still Irish style whiskey and their White Pike, both good. Somehow I ended up getting two bottles of rye. Should've mixed it up in the whiskey department but their rye is particularly good. I had never been into rye til I had theirs. I came down from that lake with 8 bottles in that bag...2 wine, 2 gin, 2 rye and 2 brandy...and a couple of wine glasses that actually survived the trip without breaking.1 point

I grew up in a hippy ass section of Minneapolis called the West Bank, and there were a few biker bars on the south end of the neighborhood. I remember I was about 8 years old when I really noticed them and thought they were rad as shit. On another note, I remember when my son first noticed tattoos as something unnatural on the body. When he was 3, he was sitting on my lap when his eyes locked onto my arm. He grabbed my arm firmly and scanned it over with intense focus...then let out the words "cool, dad"1 point -

that tattoo is fucking awesome. you seem concerned with your "tough" image, but a "real" man would wear this with pride. you loved your dog, he died, you're honoring him. nothing to be ashamed of. real tough guys are tough enough to cry sometimes.1 point -
is that what you're worried about? looking tough? while i don't know you, i do know that i'd be more inclined to talk to a person with a tattoo to remember their pet than someone with a tattoo design that appears to be more "masculine" by stereotype. you are who you are, and you love your dog (and that speaks highly of you in my book). tattoo's won't change that and won't make you any more or less tougher than your own personality dictates. and fuck what others think or say about you due to your tattoo. it was done by a stellar artist, and it's a very simple, but clean design. hell, i have a tribute to my deceased rabbit on my forearm and i'm an ex skin! i've got not shame in my love for Henry, as he was the feistiest rabbit i've ever met, and he matched every bit as much of my aggro tendencies during those days. if someone wanted to mock me, i'd deck in the face still to this day, and i know that Henry will be grunting, lunging, and nipping at their heels in spirit.1 point

i agree with iwar, having a tattoo for only a few months is not long enough , i feel, to make such a drastic decision. my advice is to live with it for longer and to just enjoy getting tattooed. covering up such a nice tattoo, being so new, will make a mess of your arm and lasering it won't really work. the few people i have come across that seem to be in your situation end up being so focused on that one tattoo they dont like that it's all they can think of and really, the more tattoos you get the more you wil realise what a great design it is. personally i think it's really great with a nice sentiment behind it to boot.1 point
