  1. Ok, @Brian Wermund, it seems silly to send you the link to the newbie guidelines since I'd be willing to bet you crafted this thread to specifically skirt all the rules about posting. But here it is: Last Sparrow Tattoo - Newbie Guidelines Not sure if you've received any PMs from the other mods on here but I'd expect one sooner rather than later. LST is a place to learn and it is a place to ask questions. It is not a place to post (not so) thinly veiled attempts to pat yourself on the back for tattooing out of your house and getting thrown out of a shop and pretending to be butthurt when strangers on the internet tell you you're wrong. I'm sure the experience won't change a thing. Anyway, I know stirring shit up online is fun in between appointments at the kitchen table, but maybe instead you can use that time to get your hands on some books and magazines or even take a look around the site. Through a little research you might notice that most people who were relegated to tattooing at home were either 15 or shortly thereafter were able to land a proper apprenticeship where they said, "Holy shit, thank god I'm on the right track." I've wasted way too much time on this response. And probably been way too nice. Just do us all a favor and stop trolling for a reaction. - - - Updated - - - Also, go get tattooed. At a shop.

  2. Got tattooed today by Doc Price in Plymouth, UK. Doc has been tattooing for over 50 years. A truly lovely man. It was a real privilege to listen to Doc telling some tales about his time as a tattooer. There can’t be many places where you can get a tattoo while sitting only three feet away from an original Paul Rogers Tattoo machine displayed on the wall.

  8. You must not be old enough to remember the real Elvis. The movies? Of course they're corny-you don't actually think he set out to find an artistic masterpiece, do you?! Col. Tom said, "sign here, boy, and you'll make another million", so he did. Just like you or I would. As far as stealing wholesale from blacks, no more so than Blacks stole wholesale from Whites. You need to do some real research into who was making what kind of music back then before you make statements like that. There were Black and White influences crossing over ever which way in ever style of music, from the Blues to R&B, to pop, to Gospel, you name it. Hell, one of the biggest names in "racist music" wrote tunes in Cajun French that charted Gold in Canada. Everone stole from everone. Oh, and he wasn't Led Zeppelin with a pompadour, Led Zeppelin was Elvis without the Pompadour...or the voice. At any rate, if it wasn't for L.Z., and a few other Brit band, many of the str8-up old-time bluesmen would have faded off into obscurity. At lest they got a shot at the recognition and money they deserved, and a lot of that was owed the exposure they got from Zep and company in the sixties and seventies.

Anyway thanks to kind permission by Bill Loika heres a rare glimpse of some great old pics.

  12. I cam across TattooDonkey.com like 6 months ago when I got a notification about some images being posted elsewhere on the international web.... So, I check it out, ok... NBD just a few photos, then... I notice you can also down load this shit... Then it wasn't until yesterday that Eric Perfect posted some shit up about him having flash posted there and being sold in downloads, only catch is, he didn't post the pics, nor authorize it, or consent.... Three different lawyers and last night I was like ahh, still, even though the lawyers are like it's not worth worrying about, I was freaking out... Our Art work literally is what feeds, clothes, and shelters us... And we bust ass... So this was like another shit nail in the coffin. And this has been the case with not only FLASH, but Fine Art Print Reproductions, Photos of Originals, and photos of tattoos and tattoos being done, as well as crap drawings, and then the creepy family pics people are finding that this site, went in and harvested and downloaded all these pics with noe ones consent or knowing, immediately turnaround upload and post to their site with a high resolution download that anyone can buy take and use, fuck the originator of said image right?...And they did this and had staff reupload, and they knew all along that they had not notified anyone about this... But by posting on their site that is was user created shared database, is completely fraudulent... BUSTED. If you have time, go to that site.... Start keywording any work you may have put online, had someone else put in a blog, etc,,, last name suffices usually... Copy and pastse all this stuff together and then you will need to submit it all back to the company and do it fast before they take everyone shit down so they can claim it was just pulled we had no idea.... I even saw images that had the Last Sparrow Tattoo mark on it, which means they came to this site, and harvested everyones photos... Ours includes... So... Tattoo Donkey and something like this: To: [email protected] From: (YOUR NAME) and EMAIL Subject: DMCA notice, site stealing major content CC: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] First of all, if you even have lawyers, you should have been told that you do not qualify for "safe harbor" protection under the DMCA. Your site "tattoodonkey.com" is posting thousands of photos of other people and other people's art without any permission, and it is very obvious that you are wholly aware of this. You are not operating in good faith and can not hide behind the DMCA. What are you doing is wholly illegal under US and International law. You surely know that, and your "disclaimer" in no way protects you. Because you are charging for these photos and also filing them under my and other people's trademarks, you are putting yourself up for a great many damages. You are using many pictures stolen without permission of me, from my website, and I would wager that not even one percent of the photos you are using are legal. In fact, I would go so far as to say that every single image on the site is stolen. Your site actually came to my attention because of the vast number of tattoo artists upset at the thefts of their photos and designs. There are few well-known -- or even lesser known -- artists who won't find their material stolen on your site. The following images, and I suspect many others that I have not found, are mine and I insist that they are removed immediately. Attach list of links to images not rightfully posted that belong to you... then send it off... Ahh, I can sleep better tonight, this stuff was fucking with me hard last night.

  16. Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to getting some good work done. I have a consult with Jeff Croci at Seventh Son this afternoon. I'll definitely check out Black Heart, I have heard of them before. I've been lurkin around the forums for a week now and enjoying reading up, particularly threads about etiquette in shops since I have no clue (though my tattooed friends have also given me plenty of advice). Thanks for the welcome!

  21. I've spent the last 14 months scrubbing bathrooms, floors and tubes to get where I am. It isn't easy to find someone willing to dedicate their time to teach you their craft. You have to prove that this is truly where your heart is and it will be worth it to them. An apprenticeship isn't just learning to tattoo, it's paying your fucking dues. I have never had a problem just going into any shop. I have been able spend time with tattooers whom I really look up to and they have taught me many things even though they were not my mentor. Why? Because I'm doing it right and I've shown them the respect they deserve. That woman treated you the way you deserved to be treated.

  23. First off it should only be referenced to as squid appendages. I got a squid shirt and some squid pants started but only after the tatty zap gun finishes inkin me bro. All joking aside, I use the term (even though I hate it) for lack of a better word to most people, but never refer to anything less than a "sleeve". Half, quarter, third-pounder, all sound like shit.

  25. This is seriously always a pet peeve of mine and it's amazing how often people use it. Because I'm getting tattooed and working my way down one of my arms right now, my girlfriend always tell people I'm working on a sleeve, and it always makes me cringe just a little because it gives people the wrong idea. Because really, I'm just getting a bunch of tattoos on one arm until it's close to full then getting some filler afterwards, and it will be a long time before I'm done, so saying I'm working on a sleeve kind of seems silly.

  26. I wasn't sure where to put this, but July 3rd, Thomas Hooper stopped through town to take part in local restaurant Frank's monthly art mural. Part of the opening was a meet and greet with free food and limited edition two color screen prints (I think there was 50 made total) 1)Me in front of Hooper's mural to give you an idea of scale: 2&3)The Industry Print crew running the screens and Mr. Hooper: 4)My framed (and signed) Thomas Hooper screen print:

  27. @David Flores gave the best advice anyone could give about anything in life really. Talk less, listen more. I was going to post earlier and say that but I didn't really want to make enough effort to post a reply. Largely due to exercising that exact motto. The sooner that any and all people start to become less self involved and stop thinking that anything they do is important, then the sooner we all start to benefit. I'd also say look up the word humble or humility and then meditate on that until it is the starting point of all of your thoughts.

  33. I am on the fence about whether or not to fill in negative space in a traditional American sleeve or set of tattoos. I love those Cripwell legs, but I also love stars and dots as filler. Also, little tiny daggers, flowers, hearts, eagles, etc. work really well as filler. I'd like to know what y'all think about large scale Japanese work and backgrounds/filler, though. Personally, I think Japanese work needs a background to look its absolute best. Still a tough decision. Some examples: Not sure who the tattooer is on these two (any help would be appreciated): vs Horiharu: Horitoshi I: Horiyoshi III:

  34. I thought this belonged here as a great example of negative space. I also like how one arm has the star and dot filler vs. the other non filled. I think the non-filled arm is much stronger:
