2. Been a while since I last posted, but yesterday I finally, finally, finally got to start my ROA backpiece. First session finished and the main part of the outline is done! I meant to get started on this tattoo at the 1st of April, but got sidelined with some back and hip issues. It's a crappy cellphone pic and I wasn't exactly standing up straight, but you can get the general jest of it. The ribs and lower back portion hurt like Hell, but it was well worth it. I'm pretty stoked about it. Tattooed by Paul Pearson at Tried & True Tattoo in Smyrna Tn. (and there's a cover-up of an old 101st Airborne tattoo going on in there too).

  4. Yea but the flip side to that is its also annoying when people think that because I go to someone specificly that your only going for the name. If I see a tattooer I like work from I get tattooed by that person...I dont think thats crazy you know? Ill get shit from people who are like "you only get tattooed by big shots" etc etc and I just like to add some adventure/travel and fun to my tattoos. Plus Im older now and have a decent job so if I want a tattoo from someone whose work I like I get it.

    Japanese Tattoo Ideas

Imagery is imagery, and if you dig it, you can wear it. That even goes for shit-ass-loser-neo-nazi's. There truly is no exception. You are allowed to get just about any tattoo you want. Albeit, I reserve the right to make fun of you if you have no idea who the hell Fudo-Myoo is, even though you're wearing a sleeve from Rubendall.

  6. i'm 34 and if you want something bad enough you will make the sacrifice, maybe have to be some ones bitch.. and as a career graffiti writer i can tell you nothing has happened to that scene remotely close to tattooing. graffiti isnt or ever will be about a dollar. edit when i say career writer it isnt be cause thats what i did for money, its because i dedicated every day all around the country for over 15 years to nothing but that.

    Hi everyone

So Kate, could you hook me up with a cake with a dragon over a map of the world, maybe with a reaper and a sword threatening a rose in a sparrow's beak?!?!?!?!? J/K, welcome to LST, and I hope you enjoy it here. Dan

  9. I dont think its lame, I have had a serious consideration to have the back of the new penny tattooed on me. I just like it, and it seems like it was designed to be a tattoo.

  14. Wow! Thanks for all the votes. Feels a little weird to win something based on someone else's work, but I'm not complaining :) Tim is a great guy and a great artist, and I'll definitely try to get tattooed by him again if the opportunity arises.

  17. @mblx If you're in the States, go see Thomas Hooper at Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn. If you're in the UK, Duncan X at IntoYou, London. I think someone at Blut & Eisen in Berlin, Germany does stuff a little like that too. Look outside tattoos or tattooing for reference images. Good luck.

  18. Yup....I agree even tho i have a westernized Japanese sleeve started. I think its got "flavor" but its a part of my "American" body suit of a mash up of tattooing styles. I dont want to be from japan and not posing as anything...im just an american who loves tattooing. That said the images do mean something to me. I do think tho the FULL BODY Japanese suit is special and I dont care how many of us americans get them you CANT water that down. Thats just too strong.

  19. Checked your FB pages there, Brian, and I would strongly urge you to either find someone to apprentice with, or stick to tagging walls. Homaside? How many 187's you down for?

  20. Totally cool. I hope you didn't feel like I was attacking you in any way, it was not my intention. I liked what you had to say and I would never bring any negativity to this forum. You're correct about the tattoos not being the best on the tv shows. Some of the clients they would give us were very hard to work with and wanted really odd tattoos. The phrase "polishing a turd" word come to mind often... It tested ones patience.

  21. i know lots of people care mostly about having tattoos from guys who are hot shit at the time, or just care to be at the hot shit shop i don't really care about that, i prefer to have an enjoyable experience, hear some good stories and have some laughs...i'm lucky that i know of a place that i can do that and still get a great tattoo. i'm also lucky that all the dudes i've been tattoo'd by have been pretty ok guys.

  24. I'm not sure what an "american crest" is, but I don't see how you c ould go wrong with ANY American imagery. Nothing wrong with a little healthy Nationalism...about the only places that it's deemed gauche are the States and Deutschland.

    Hi from Arizona!

Welcome to LST. Be sure to check out http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/forum-suggestions-feedback/1319-want-learn-tattoo-trade-secrets.html when you get a sec. Apprentices and artists are always welcome, but just a friendly heads up that this is not the place to ask for technical advice.

  27. I saw on Grant Cobb's Instagram that you may come by Liberty on the 13th and get tattooed by him. My wife and I will be there that day getting tattooed by Matt. I wanted to get tattooed by Grant but we have had these appointments scheduled for too long to cancel. I met Grant a couple of months ago at Spotlight, and he definitely falls into the category of people I like and would like to get tattooed by.

  30. I think Abelive's last post summed it up for me: Basically I don't expect to be sitting down and discovering a friend for life when I get tattooed, or be treated to some kind of therapy or show-and-tell as well as getting the tattoo ... But I expect to be met halfway in terms of civility and customer-service. I don't mind someone being gruff or not particularly wanting to talk, but if someone is actively being a dick then for me personally it doesn't matter how good a tattooer they are, I would probably prefer to go to another competent tattooer (and luckily there are a lot out there and I can swing traveling etc. if necessary) rather than give my money to someone who treats me badly. As for people's personal private lives (their beliefs, addictions or lack thereof, whatever), I don't think I would consider it relevant unless it impacted on their delivery of the tattoo and the way they treated me as a customer.

  34. I agree. I had an interview at a shop a couple years ago in the summer. The gentleman were wearing sleeveless shirts and shorts. One guy had a skull cheese work thing on the deltoid the other guy had some little crap on his hands. That's it. I did not take the job strictly based on that. Just felt they were not in it for the same reasons . And the one guy had flip flops on. Nothing against flip flops, they're comfortable and all, I just would not wear them to work.

I won't argue with you about the TV show. I have to disagree with the one part about Ami's tattooing skills, here is a photo of a tattoo he recently finished in Miami, it took him under a month and he texted the pics to a few friends. He is very far from a bad tattooer. FYI: He drew the whole dragon side on with a pen

  36. I think personality/attitude is very important. I will take a less than perfect tattoo from a great person before I take a world-class tattoo from an asshole. Anyway though, I think their personality shows in their work to the extent that I wouldn't be attracted to an assholes artwork...at least I don't think. Short answer -- personality is very important to me. The experience and memory of the moment is going to outlive the crispnesss and vibrance of the tattoo, I think...

Hey Iwar, I had no idea you were in a band, not too surprised I guess. I'm liking what I'm hearing - very brutal, cool lyrics. I played guitar in a band called The Sick from 1996-2008 - we're retired now, but here's some of our stuff: The Sick - On The Fence ..more here: The Sick

  39. My hubby is not on LST yet anyway but I am excited about his new tattoo...this was after his 1st session w/Kim Saigh a couple months ago. I don't seem to have a pic from his second session but a lot of black was added and some cool swirls. Tomorrow he will get color in the flowers...
