I haven't made an addition to this thread since page 30 something. My time has finally come! Richard Stell, guest spotting at Smith Street Tattoo in NYC. It was an awesome experience. Richard is hilarious. He had my abs cramping up at one point from laughing to much... or it was the hypoglycemia setting in. Regardless it was a lot of fun.13 points

My hubby is not on LST yet anyway but I am excited about his new tattoo...this was after his 1st session w/Kim Saigh a couple months ago. I don't seem to have a pic from his second session but a lot of black was added and some cool swirls. Tomorrow he will get color in the flowers...6 points -

Took a trip to San Francisco and decided to get a piece by Jeff Rassier to fill some empty space. I asked him to do whatever weirdo tattoo he wanted, as long as it wasn't too vulgar... ended up with this Fu Manchu head with a serpent body that fits perfectly. Needless to say, I couldn't be happier!2 points

Well, here's some progress. Probably only got one session left (touchups, getting some brighter purple on the bottom lady's robes, all that jazz). A long, long way from where it was 9 months ago :D As always, artist is Rachi Brains at Black Throne (ETA: somehow I always stuff up these attachments... click to embiggen)2 points -

My girlfriend has pretty much no interests in tattoos but is pretty supportive of me getting them, but when I mention in a very distant hypothetical future getting my back and torso done she doesn't seem to be super fond of the idea. I don't even really think that I want to do those things at this point, and wouldn't be financially stable enough for a long while, so it's not an issue really. However, she isn't crazy about eagles, no matter how many I show her, and I think they are one of the best tattoo images there is. I don't think she'd go as far to tell me not to do it, but I'd hate knowing she doesn't like any of my tattoos (yeah, yeah, I know they are supposed to be for me, but still).1 point -

Relationships and tattoos
gougetheeyes reacted to TrixieFaux for a topic
When I met my husband 10 years ago I only had 1 small tattoo and he had none. I started getting a couple more here and there. Last summer I got 2 tattoos pretty close together. He and one of his friends came with me for one of them and we all ended up getting one. He was 41 when he got that first one. After getting that one, he got the bug. I booked my Kim Saigh appointment for Feb and when he saw my beautiful roses, he decided to book with her. Now I have 6 tattoos and he has 2, but his second one is a half sleeve --his 3rd session w/her is tomorrow. So he went from having none and not even seeming that interested to kind of surpassing me. He is already talking about what he's going to get for his other arm. I'm psyched. I've influenced him and his arm looks rad. I'm really happy that now we share this interest.1 point -

Nice, saw that sucker on instagram! I visited Electric for the first time a few weeks ago and I, too, have a feeling I'll be making some trips down there. Seriously incredible shop.1 point -
Thanks everyone, I'm really chuffed with it. It's kind of weird, I was out last night and a couple of times people came up and were like 'you're the guy with that eagle by Valerie' - Instagram and the internet is crazy like that. Also, maybe it's just where it is, but it's healing up really well. My other tattoos have tended to scab up quite a lot, they come out fine in the end, but this one really hasn't very much - I bought some Dr. Bronner's liquid soap to clean it up with, recommended by Valerie, and haven't really done anything else to it.1 point

artists girlfriend working at shop
Bunny Switchblade reacted to irezumi for a topic
I've worked at places where it was best that the shop help didnt get involved in what the customer wants/what the artist will be doing and at places where the shop help did get involved and made it more convoluted. It could go either way. Most of the time I dont want the counter to tell a client what can or cant be done, what something will cost, etc. Leave that up to me. Girlfriend or whatever it's mostly a receptionist's job. Greet people warmly, answer phones, sign them up, tell them an artist will be with them shortly and ring up what I tell them to ring up. One of the best counter help I've worked with is a dude that works the front at Bolder Ink. He's been doing that job for over 5 years and does exactly those things (also gets tipped out more if we ask him to scrub tubes). The way I see it they get paid by the hour to sit there and do those things. If I want coffee I can walk down the street and get it myself. We aren't rock stars.1 point -
