  2. Well, here's some progress. Probably only got one session left (touchups, getting some brighter purple on the bottom lady's robes, all that jazz). A long, long way from where it was 9 months ago :D As always, artist is Rachi Brains at Black Throne (ETA: somehow I always stuff up these attachments... click to embiggen)

  4. I saw this on her instagram yesterday and said, "FUUUUUUUUUUCK," is what I said. Sometimes, I see a tattoo so good that it almost makes me mad that it's on someone else. Almost. Really, though, I'm just happy that it exists. Enjoy it, because it's one of the best eagles I've ever seen.

  8. Great time getting tattooed by Valerie yesterday. It really comes through how much she and Stewart care about what they're doing. Weird moment recognising the guy from Stewart's blog with the Saga/Reinke sleeves - those are some awesome looking tattoos (sorry if I'm being weird again and you're reading this, ha!).

  9. I heard Mike went back to work yesterday and did some tattoos. I don't know how heavy of a schedule he's working while he's still healing but I guess he's back at it.

  10. Thanks everyone, I'm really chuffed with it. It's kind of weird, I was out last night and a couple of times people came up and were like 'you're the guy with that eagle by Valerie' - Instagram and the internet is crazy like that. Also, maybe it's just where it is, but it's healing up really well. My other tattoos have tended to scab up quite a lot, they come out fine in the end, but this one really hasn't very much - I bought some Dr. Bronner's liquid soap to clean it up with, recommended by Valerie, and haven't really done anything else to it.

I just got this for my husband for his birthday, too. He is about to go to Kim Saigh for his 3rd session on an amazing looking koi fish 1/2 sleeve. It's a beautiful book. I don't have any color tattoos and some of those pictures make me want one...

    Re-wrapping tattoos

I re-wrapped a tattoo once never again. I will never forget the smell when I removed the wrapping several hours later. It had the smell of death. The last time I smelt something like that was when I opened a packet of minced beef that had "gone off". You can heal tattoos by using sarin wrap. I believe burns are healed this way. The wrapping needs to be changed at least three or more times a day. The only thing I use sometimes, and thats only on lower leg tattoos is a very fine tubular gauze for a couple of days (it's to keep cats hairs away from the tattoo). The tattoo can breathe and if the gauze sticks to the tattoo a little warm water loosens it, no problem. Personally I can't see the benefits of re-wrapping a tattoo with sarin wrap but each to their own.

    Cool old cars

Old bikes? Well hell...I might have a snap or two of old scooters. Here's a few of mine, pretty old ones, I think they were taken in like 1992. The ex made off with all the picture albums, I had these layin in a desk drawer. I've had this old girl for 35 years...she's been through some changes, but this is pretty much what she looks like now. I've changed a tad, tho'. Pardon the amateur photoshopping where I removed a passenger.

    Cool old cars

So this is def one of my favorite rides. I confess, I didn't do much of the work myself, but hired it done for a friend in Deutschland. With gas at $10 a gallon there, I don't think he'll be taking delivery anytime soon, and it's just sitting in storage, getting driven a few hours a month to keep the juices flowing. If anyone is interested in a REAL expensive kool old car, hit me up!

  30. I would like to be able to call my tattooer a friend. I always try to be respectful when it comes to tardiness, if I'm late apologize but for the most part I'm there 5 minutes early. Never canceled, always bring cash. I've only shown up one time after having a beer but far from drunk. Sometimes we go out after finishing and get something to eat or drink. always have to fight over who pays but in the end I'm always treated. So I would like to say he's my friend, but that's not going to stop me from giving him the respect he deserves as a tattooer and a human being. It's going to be weird when I finish my body suit and an not there every Sunday and I'm going to call him to see if he wants to go out. My schedule is pretty busy but Sunday isn't that's busy of a day to get tattooed here in Japan. So I'm almost always having 6pm on Sundays, if he calls me and says someone is late or he needs to move me to a later time it's fine. I'm always to afraid to ask him if it's alright if I just come in and watch him work. But tebori is a bit different, more one on one. Maybe one of these days I'll grow some balls and ask if I can watch.

  31. I just got Yakuza Moon in the mail. It's not necessarily about tattoos, but more about a girl growing up in a yakuza family. Bodies of Inscription is pretty good. Also, the Amund Dietzel books.

  35. When I'm on business, I respect the fact that I'm representing my employer and cover up. When I'm on my own time I don't worry about it. If you don't like my tattoos, turn your head. Nobody seems to be worried about offending me with their conservative, flat-earth, opinionated, narrow-minded attitudes, why should I worry about offending them?

  38. Had a nice little fight with the GF this morning about my tattoo session tomorrow. First a little background...she spent the weekend in Red River with a bunch of people she knows for the motorcycle rally there. I wasnt exactly thrilled about watching my GF ride off to another state on the back of some other guys bike (really nice guy, not worried about cheating or anything, just felt...weird). We had a fight about it last month, and I realized I was just being a selfish, jealous whiner. I really didnt want her to go, but we are both adults, I trust her...so..off she goes for the weekend while I had to stay in Denver (previous commitment). Anyhoo...she asks what I am having tattoed tomorrow "Skulls" I reply. She gets PISSED. Leaves the room. Comes back in 10 minutes saying, "I cant believe you are getting a skull (bad time to point out skullS I think). I dont like it at all. I hope you dont expect me to like it or talk about it or ANYTHING". I'm thinking, damn, thats awfully republican of her...and I'm thinking, she didnt give a fuck what I thought about her going on a 4 day weekend with bikers out of state, and now shes bitching about a SKULL tattoo? And really, bottom line is, I dont give a fuck about what anyone thinks about my tattoos except me. I cant wait to get tattooed tomorrow.

That's really neat that the dudes you go to charge 200 dollars an hour and have your best interest in mind. Us "shoeshine" boys don't always get to pick and choose what we get to tattoo.

  48. true, except that this how we EARN A LIVING. sometimes imitation takes money out of our pockets. why go see Mike Wilson (to pick a random awesome tattooer), when you can have the imitation Mike Wilson in your town copy it? that's where it gets so personal. because when it comes down to it, this is our PROFESSION. this is a craft and BUSINESS. not just sitting in a room oil painting or something. you know?

  49. Done in Petaluma, CA by Clayton @ Electric Oni Tattoo. My cousin Tori passed away, leaving her husband and 5 year old boy behind. She was the best addition to our family and she will be missed. She had the same tattoo on her forearm, but hers said "Angel's Wings Carry Me Home" From Social D. "Bella Demise" was her nickname, which suited her perfectly.
