  1. A little swollen and oozy but you get the idea...

  2. Please can we have a thread, area, whatever, to move the increasing number of posts asking for free advice from people who are bored, scared to visit a real-world tattoo shop, attention seeking, lonely, stupid or whatever? I'm not adverse to giving free advice, hell, I can even be nice to people sometimes but it's getting a little cluttered in here. The signal/noise ratio is getting harder and harder to manage or respond to without sarcasm. Reading 'Tattoo 101' is getting more and more like hangin' out on the wrong side of the reception desk on a busy saturday afternoon and less like an interesting or stimulating discussion between people who love tattoos and tattooing. Sorry if I'm pissing on anyone's parade.

  5. Here's a picture of my back after my first session with Jeff Zuck at Name Brand in Ann Arbor. I've had a few more since then, but haven't gotten pictures after any of them. I'll try to get the lady to take a new one and post that up soon.

You misspelled "magick." Also, one of my favorite quotes on the subject comes from Penn Jillette, who admits that he can't remember who said it originally: "Atheism is a religion in the same way that not collecting stamps is a hobby."

  8. No one is pissing on the parade but rather helping us work to give you a better forum so thank you. @steve1461686340 and I hung out yesterday and brainstormed some ideas to improve the site so this adds to the list in a very helpful way. The whole LST Team is hoping to get together soon once we can get schedules lined up and we'll implement new stuff. Until then and as always please just be as kind as possible knowing we all started out as new to this whole tattoo thing, thanks for sticking with us during these growing pains.

  10. When I'm on business, I respect the fact that I'm representing my employer and cover up. When I'm on my own time I don't worry about it. If you don't like my tattoos, turn your head. Nobody seems to be worried about offending me with their conservative, flat-earth, opinionated, narrow-minded attitudes, why should I worry about offending them?

  15. A suggestion might be to make the newbies make more of a contribution before being allowed to start threads. I've witnessed some newbies just going into the initiation thread and just posting multiple "Hi" s to get their post count up. I appreciate it might be difficult to monitor though.

@Iwar If you've already read some Hitchens and are looking for more of the same then maybe try Sam Harris' 'The End of Faith'. Dawkins possibly lays out his reasoning a little more neatly ('The God Delusion' could be on a reading list for undergraduate philosophy of religion) but Harris is the better polemicist. I can understand why people sometimes feel alienated by so-called 'militant' atheists like Dawkins and Harris, although it sometimes seems to me that people usually dislike their tone , which can feel a little mean-spirited, as opposed to being able to point to flaws in their arguments. Personally I think some of the best writing on this topic was by Carl Sagan (RIP). His 'The demon-haunted world: Science as a candle in the dark' is one of the best books I've ever read, and many of the essays it contains have a bearing on some of the topics discussed in this thread.

I would disagree w/that. Seems to have caused a lot of wars and other inhumane injustices throughout history. I have no problem with any individual seeking anything that helps them to become a better person or whatever it does for you. But, I remain human without religion. Compassionate, even.

  28. I didn't belittle your idea one bit. My first tattoo was a bird tattoo as well and I don't regret it. I just found a dodo bird particularly fitting for you given the amount of great advice you've been given already. Whatever. I'm done with this thread because it's doing nothing but riling up negativity from me. In the words of @SirBlazeAlot , peacethefuckkouttthomosss hahahaha. @dcostello - still the best signature ever!

  31. REPOSTED Wrazz, you live in Chicago, here's a thought. Go on down to Chicago Tattoing COmpany on Belmont just west of B'way, and take a look through the flash, paintings, script samples, and so forth that they have there. If you see something remotely interesting, you could start there, or ask to speak to one of the artists, Nick Colella and Mario Desa, Mike Dalton, they're all outstanding, and I'm sure they'll work with you to come up with something you'll be proud to have.

Feynman was a great man. Personally, whether God exist or not, is a dead end question. I live my life by a certain code. If there is a God, then I hope it's enough. If not, well....probably wasn't my kind of crowd to begin with.

Atheist here. Both my parents are Atheists too. Just finished "God, No!" by Penn Jillette and "the God delusion" by Dawkins actually. I'm contemplating picking up Hitchens' "God is not great" next. Anyone read it?

  34. Deluxe is a good shop, Chris Smith is a good tattooer as well and I know a lot of people around here like his machines (Also didn't Mario work there before Chicago Tattoo). I like Taylor Street for the Mike Malone collection, although since his death I have been drawn more to CTC myself. I know a few guys at Family Tattoo that can put on a solid tattoo, and another shop Called Revolution Tattoo that puts on clean tattoos as well. But yeah there are a lot of shops that I have never heard of wish I hadn't. I am sure there are others that are good just don't really know about them.

  40. I thought "raised in a barn" meant you violating something related to physical politeness and propriety. Like... "Take your hat off before dinner! You weren't raised in a barn." I was kinda raised in a barn when I was a kid, though. The sun tattoo thing with words under it will just remind everybody of Raisin Bran With Two Scoops, though. Or Sublime.

  49. I've been lurking here for a solid 8-9 months now, not heavily tattooed, just getting started. I'm working my way down one arm right now, but due to being a grad student, it will be a while before I'm finished. Started with this by your own Mario Desa back in November: Got this Dietzel flash from Nick Colella in March: Also have a little Sailor Jerry butterfly that I got from Mario on the same day as the gypsy, but I don't have a picture of it. Sorry if these aren't as recent as stuff people normally post, but I wanted to contribute.
