    Little Tattoos

How about this little beauty. Got this one from a well known artist. They accidentally caught me with the machine. The artist was absolutely mortified and said they would dig it out, but I wouldn't let them ha ha.

  7. Something I've noticed from working with Robert is you can't photograph a Robert Ryan tattoo. It just doesn't work. I'll see tattoos he does at the shop, (like Shawn's for instance or Greg's front torso piece), and in person they'll put you on your ass. but i'll see a photo of it he puts up on instagram on my way home and i'm taken aback by how little of the power can be contained in the picture. His tattoos really have to be seen in person to be appreciated. and like T.D. says "Any Imperfections only add to it's beauty"

    palm tattoos

I got my palm tattooed by Tony Hundahl almost five years ago and have never gotten a touch up. It looks fantastic and I'm trying to work up the nerve to get the other one done as well. Here is a recent pic: /kev/

  9. I'm going to start an OV thread because I'm way too lazy to mention things in specific threads. Sooo. Today I posted a digitized version of a huge interview that Jonathan Shaw did with Col. William Todd in ITA 1/1 in 1992. Mr. Shaw gave me permission to digitize all the interviews that he did for ITA- takes forever (OCR for the win) but TOTALLY worth it. Here's the first one: Jonathan Shaw Interviews: Col. William L. Todd « Occult Vibrations SO MUCH good stuff in this interview.

  17. -Part 3- Sorry about the lack of updates, but I am hardly ever at my hotelroom except for when I'm sleeping. I gotta run and meet up with my two norwegian buddies, Olav & Marius, at the Kellogs diner now. We're getting some breakfast, pancake style, but I'll try to write a paragraph or two later. Here are some pictures though. I think most of them are self explanotory.

    Cover up ?

@bulldog I dont see any scarring in the pictures but you can start to see the original stuff before the tribal went on and it was all stick&pokes(over 20 yrs old now) no pits from blister and I dont have any acne scars or the such just freckles. I have a pretty big razor slice on one of my shoulder blades from a childhood altercation. my left arm has a tattoo over another razor slice and although solid black it took ink well

  29. I will admit my wife was a little crazy while she was pregnant and she hated the whole experience. In the end I got the tattoo I wanted, and who knows what she was really mad about at the time. I don't think I have ever heard her bring up the issue of money in regards to tattoos, we have always had separate accounts for spending money so what we do with money we earn is none of each others concerns for the most part. If she did ever bring it up, I don't think it would last long after I added up all the money she spends on MAC makeup and shoes my tattoos would pail in comparision.

i've had comments like this get back to me concerning the desk guys at my shop and they only make me wonder about the customer. i highly respect our staff at frith st and like them very much as friends, they are trustworthy and take care of me and my appts and if they were useless, they wouldnt be employed for sure. I could easily say this applies to most good tattoo shops. i'm not sure how well your encounter went, just saying be careful what you call people online, it can come across much more harshly :) good luck with your tattoo :)

  34. DO NOT GO SEE "WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN EXPECTING." It seemed to have some comedic value in the trailers... No. Those mother fuckers lied. Dennis Quaid was the best part. SPOILER ALERT: THEY HAVE KIDS AT THE END AND EVERYONE IS REALLY HAPPY. On a lighter note, I bought Shawshank Redemption yesterday. Cant wait to watch when I get home.

  37. Thank you to all that have responded! I would love to get a piece from each one, but only have enough for one right now. I thought Shinji did both machine and tebori. It was only at the consultation that I learned he does the outline by machine and shading by tebori - which would probably double what I have saved. He gave me a rough estimate of completeing the sleeve in 8 or 9 months. I told both Chris & Shinji that I wanted to start in early 2012. I also told Chris yesterday that I had spoken to Shinji but again, I wasn't clear about being undecided. Both Chris and Shinji are quiet and laid back - as am I. With Shinji there is a slight language barrier. Cool Shinji story... So, in late August I went to NYAdorned to inquire about Shinji's availability. The guy told me to put my name on a wait list of about 30 people deep. About a month later I saw Shinji on the subway. I walked up to him and introduced myself. I told him that I put my name on his wait list and was hoping to get work from him one day. He asked me what I wanted and I told him. He was very pleasant and friendly. He liked what I wanted and told me that he would put me at the top the list. A couple of days later I got a call from NYAdorned saying Shinji would like to book a consultation if I was still interested. It's funny cause the first couple of times NYA called I couldn't answer the phone cause I was at work and my voice mail was not set up. NYA called me a third time and that's when I finally could answer. By this time I had already sent Chris an email inquiring about a consultation. He answered about a week ago. I have second guessed myself because of the cost of tebori. But it would be great to have one arm done by Shinji and one by Chris O' Donnell. Over the summer I also had consultations with Brad Fink and Regino Gonzales. They were also cool dudes. They all want to do do dragons. I only spoke with Brad and Regino -- neither one took outlines of my arm, that's why I was kinda surprised Shinji and Chris measured my arm. Anyway, I think I'm gonna go with Shinji since he kept his word and called me. I'm going to email Chris and explain, apologize, and hope that he would be open to doing my other arm one day.

@goldocat Don't beat yourself up though, it's all part of the learning curve. Judgeing by your choice of artists I'd say you've got 99.9% of your research spot on. I must admit you've now got a really tough choice. My advise. Don't offend either book both of them. Sorted :)

  39. @goldocat If I'm at the point of booking a consultation I've already done my research and made my mind up about the tattooer. As I understand a consultation is to discuss and finalise what you are getting and when. For me what rate the tattooer is charging is not an issue as my decision will be based on the type and quality of his/her work not price. As for bonding with the tattooer it's nice if I do but it's not a deal breaker. I'm getting a tattoo, not going on a date. But hey, that's me.

  40. I'm going to guess the lady in front of me in line at the grocery store with her tweety bird pajama pants and shearling boots, three kids in tow buying twelve 2 liters of Soda, Lucky Charms, frozen pizza, and a tray of cupcakes on food stamps while yelling at her kids to behave so she can go get some smokes at the customer service desk has something to do with it. At least she has my vote.
