Doesn't seem like a small question to me. If people are leaving your "shop" with shitty tattoos and you won't even take a day off to try to figure out why, that seems like a big concern. Learning in a shitty shop, hardly seems like an excuse. I would say most people had to start at a bad shop or learn from someone that wasn't that good. Those that got better did so by seeking out people who could make them better and looking for opportunities to be in better shops around better tattooers. Sometimes that not only meant taking the weekend off to go visit another shop and not make money but relocating thousands of miles and a couple days notice. Being a scratcher in my opinion has more to do with the quality of tattoos someone is putting on. A lot of people are putting on bad tattoos out of their house so yes they are scratchers, but if they put the same tattoo on in a shop is it any better or is that tattooer any nobler in their profession? Some might give them a little credit for actually setting up a shop and incurring the expenses like a professional ,but the tattoo is the tattoo.

My lady was into cupcakes before all the new jacks. Starting a mag for all the legit bakers called " Traditional Cupcake Baking"-none of that bullshit fondant and cacao raspberry filling; strictly butter cream icing and red velvet.

Aside from showing respect to this forum, you have no respect for your craft, no respect for your mentor. and no repect for yourself. get over the internet, it's not how you learn the trade or solve problems. i dont buy that excuse that you cant get tattooed at another shop go to the next county over. your fucking people up and aew not even making a real attempt to solve your problem. google is not for tattooers. but i supose i am beating a dead horse. and what do i know i am just an apprentice who slaves 80 hours a week in trade for proper training in the craft. so fuck what i say. but you should be working harder.

BUT THATS A COOL NAME TO USE BRO. And if you (autodude) were to use Seth as an example, you should also know that he had his brother and P Wee (both well-trained and experienced tattooers at well respected established shops) to help him out when he needed it, by being on hand in person to get it done right. for real though, there is no shame in seeking out a second apprenticeship to learn how to do it right. It would really benefit you and your ability to grow at better pace with a well-trained mentor. If the owner of the shop you're at now can't help you, then it's the blind leading the blind. so what if it sets you back a step from what you are currently doing; it will soon launch you 5 steps ahead of where you are now. The internet will get you absolutely nowhere.

I can't help but read this as "I'm too busy making money to properly learn the craft." Maybe I'm missing it but I don't see what shop you work at and your gallery appears to be empty. Maybe you can shut us all up with the quality of your work. You came for advice and got it and I know for a fact plenty of the people offering the advice you're not willing to accept are coming from a place of experience and offering their clients work of marked quality. If not them, who are you willing to learn from? I may be a hardass about this stuff but it's older than all of us. I count myself blessed to be a part of it and have seen far too many people walk fresh faced into it demanding that it change to suit them. This thing wasn't designed to suit the overly eager and unbending. It was designed to weed them out.

  18. Kyle- When I was o-lifting in the main I high bar squatted but mainly I preferred the front squat, I felt like there was a more direct carry-over in terms of the movement pattern. There's no doubt I could low bar back squat a fair bit more, but I was never super comfortable under the bar and with that movement pattern. I think for sports performance and leg development high bar or front squats are better, but that's a very anecdotal / personal opinion. While I've always aimed to break parallel when I squat I never actually went 'ass to grass' - felt like it was overkill, and also like I was going quite slack at the very end range of that movement at the bottom, whereas just going under parallel I felt like I was loading tension and ready to come up out of the hole. I think I've exhausted this cycle of GVT. Gained 2kg but I think i'm a little leaner too so quite happy with it. Despite all the benching my shoulders feel good. I wondered how I would know it was time to switch things up, and the simple answer is that about a fortnight ago I felt like I was going into the gym and just couldn't face the 10x10 and wasn't giving it my 'all'. I think variety is important to keep motivated and I gather it's probably no harm when it comes to hypertrophy either so I have gone to this for now- Upper body day A1 Flat bench variation A2 Inverted row / bent over row variation B1 Incline bench variation B2 Pull down variation / pull up variation C1 Bicep variation C2 Tricep variation D Core Lower body day A1 Leg press A2 Leg curl B1 Single leg squat variation B2 Single leg posterior chain varation C1 Supplementary work C2 Supplementary work D Core Keeping the rest between super sets to 90 seconds, keeping the rep ranges in 8-10 for the big exercises, 12-15 on the supplementary stuff. I know you guys hate the leg press but I still want to steer clear of putting a bar on my back at the moment. Back to bulgarians on the single leg work, single leg RDLs for the other exercise in that super set. Getting about 3 sessions in a week, plus 1-2 escrima classes.

  38. Exactly. There's "is it worth it" and "is it worth it for me". For me- nah. Not really. Conn's stuff is super clean and I love looking at it, but has never struck me as someone I'd get tattooed by. Even if his rate was $200 instead of $500. Conversely, if Robert Ryan called me up and said he raised his rates to $500/hr.... I'd just save up and work with that as my budget because getting tattooed by Robert resonates with me and would qualify as 'worth it'.

    Chris Conn is back!

Yeah, I also meant for the tattoo, not for an hour :) I wouldnt pay a 500$/€ for an hour. I dont know how much in synch the high rates are with the tattooing becoming more and more of an "art"? And if you would ask 100 regural people would they get tattooed by mister Conn or Devita, I bet wast amount would choose Conn. But if Conn was 500$/hour and Devita 500$ for the whole tattoo... I dont know. And of course Im choosing Devita because his name, or the aura. So I guess im guilty also :)

  40. Not really a funny story around the same subject.... Someone called my grandfather (who's going through chemo for the second time) pretending to be me saying that I was in jail and need 1,500 dollars in order to be bailed out. Since he's not really on his game because of the chemo he went to the bank, got out 1,500 dollars and awaited another phone call saying where to send the money to. He ended up western unioning that shit to Spain. Finally the next day, he calls me and asks me what type of shit I got myself into and why I needed 1,500 dollars. He felt pretty lame when I told him to call the cops and report it. BUT... I found out that my grandfather would bail me out of jail without explanation... which was pretty great.

I'm hoping this doesn't start any sort of trend. Inflation's a motherfucker! Another thread was talkin' about Grime being pricey, but this takes the cake. Dear other tattooers reading this or hearing about C.C.'s rates, Please keep your rates reasonable and sane. Sincerely, Your Loyal Clientele
