I picked up three more tattoos this weekend! Got tattooed by Topper @ Philadelphia Eddie's on Friday then headed to Brooklyn, NY and got tattooed by Steve Delgatto & Mike Perfetto on Saturday.......I'll get some photos up of the tattoos when I get some good ones! I also had a surprise visit at Mike Perfetto's shop by Tony Polito.....Tony and another one of Mike's customers literally had shirts coming off so they could show me tattoos on each of them from Coney Island Freddie & Brooklyn Blackie! Needless to say i had one of the best weekends I have had in a very long time.....It would take something incredible to top this weekend!!!9 points -

A lot of members of LST see money talk hijacking threads and they stop coming and contributing. Can we stop discussing this now ? Its nearly as bad as the "I want a sleeve tell me what to get" type threads . pure bait .4 points

Yeah.....what people pay is their business! I have put out some serious money to add some quality pieces over the years and I have never thought twice about it if it was an artist I really wanted something from! If I feel it's not worth it to me to pay what someone has quoted me then I just don't get tattooed by that person.....and that has only happened one time so far! I never tell someone what I have paid for a tattoo......it's really none of their business and I think it is honestly rude to ask someone!4 points -

Here are two living legends that i know have already been mentioned but I got to hang with them both this past weekend and had such and awesome time! Mr. Tony Polito....who showed up to surprise me....and in the background you can see Mr. Mike Perfetto tattooing! Sorry....I look like crap....mostly because I had already been tattooed earlier in the day by Steve Delgatto...ha ha ha!4 points -

A tattoo is only worth what someone is willing to pay. What you may see as overpriced may be a no brainer to the next guy. There's no reason to subliminally put someone down for how they choose to spend their money. If I were an out of towner and wanted to be tattooed by the artist that was discussed, I'd drop $700 for a couple hours, no question. I'd do it with a smile on my face :D When I'm staring at my sick new tattoo, the money I spent would be the last thing on my mind.....4 points -

I started a Tibetan Skull (rib panel) a month or so ago with Chad Koeplinger. In the meantime I started and finished the other rib panel with Brian Bruno -- who I have to say is a super-competent, professional tattooer as well as a great artist. Seriously, I have mad respect with him after having sat with him all day (1p-730p). I am finishing up with Chad in about 2 weeks. And am looking forward to having it finished, but not looking forward to the pain! Ugh! It'll be well-earned. I will put up some pictures as soon as I can get someone to take some. I can't very well do that myself.3 points

Ya know, as far as price, a few are getting mighty tweaked over a RESPONSE to a poster talking price. I get tattooed in Chicago. It's a fairly large city, indoor plumbing and everything. Might not be Nueve Yorico, or el-Lay, but hey-it's still a city. Custom work will run around a c-note an hour, unless you are getting poked a bit. That's roughly, hey, maybe it goes $150, maybe it goes $75, whatever you manage to negotiate for. If I'm going to get custom-work done, I want an hourly rate, not a flat-price that might work out to be $500 an hour. I have no problem paying an artist for his time working on the design...if he tells me he spent 3 hours working on it, fine, I'll pay him for it. But don't charge me $350 for a piece of flash from the wall that took you 25 minutes to zap out. Sure enuf, if you like the work, it's worth whatever you want to pay for it. My whole point was that I think sometimes the market is pushed by TV and such, and the rates get inflated. Reading about prices doesn't scare people off, reading about why prices could be kept secret is what scares people off. Used to be, the price was posted right on the piece on the wall, and the hourly rate was typically posted as well. No muss, no fuss, and everyone knew where they stood. That's my last thoughts on it, again, if it violates a rule to discuss money, then an admin should delete my posts. And the one by the OP who talked about how much he paid.2 points -
Yup, I agree. I guess were all just naive and getting ripped off. Thankfully I'm too happy with the work to care.2 points

It's on TV, people feel like they can get into it. It's just like looking like some douchebag from the Jersey Shore. Now mind you, the Jersey shore can be a fine place! I like Monmouth Beach myself! But, when cultures except behaviors, all follows suit. Yet, it ebbs and flows. We will all be seen as weird carnie folk again. Thank god.2 points -

So last night I went to a friends house to watch the UFC fights. There were a few people that have had some work down buy this girl who works out if her kitchen. NEVER have I seen a collection of complete and utter CRAP. What's funny is all they talked about was how cheap she is. I just don't get WHY someone would pay sooo little for something that is sooo important. It's not like a cheap haircut. I was talking to one of the "victims" and said I was getting something done on Friday. She asked "by whom" which I replied Aaron Coleman. She said "Oh a friend of mine got some work done by him. He charges by the hour and takes lots of breaks..." I said that's fine with me, that means he takes his time and I don't mind breaks in between the pain.1 point

I love being tattooed, So far everyone that has tattooed me has been very nice to talk with and been pretty open talking with me. I got a cool tattoo on my belly a few weeks ago, David was kind enough to offer me a look at his ben corday tattoo travel book and also showed me some of his work (he had a cool stell eagle and a grime piece that he showed when the artists came up in conversation). I realize I am a customer, and I am there for a tattoo but its the little things like conversation or the buzz of the shop or all the flash on the wall that has me wanting to get tattooed even more. The pain is a non issue1 point

spookysproul reacted to CultExciter for a topic
Yeah man. I think most of us know that it isn't very polite to discuss how much someone charged you, etc etc. People who make it about the money don't care about the art. Luckily, those of us who actually get solid tattoos by solid tattooers can say so. I mean, bragging itself is poor manners, but it sure is nice knowing in your head. My mom told me a story once about how she was checking out at the grocery store. The person in front of her was covered in shitty tattoos. She called me later, relayed the story and said, "The only thing I could think was my son has so much nicer looking tattoos." :)1 point -

We have a couple of local scratchers around that are making work for the shops that are good at coverups. Most are high school kids and my son knows one of the scratch artists, but won't out him. All of my son's work is done by legit shops. The kids gotta learn that there is no such animal as a good $20 tattoo. CG1 point -

Artist Uniforms
Jennifer Stell reacted to Valerie Vargas for a topic
i have a uniform for work. it's whatever is clean in my house haha! i'm a slouchy person so most of my clothes are slouchy, i wish i could care more about the way i dress but i can't seem to. being comfortable is important to me, physically and psychologically, i simply feel like a dork if i try to match an outfit together. i live in jeans and plain tshirts. on the shop uniform thing though, i couldnt imagine working in such an environment. to me it speaks of the shop's ethos. at frith street the emphasis is on the tattoos that come out of our shop, not the way we appear to the client. we dont turn up smelling of booze or wear offensive slogans/tshirts, we're a tidy bunch, but we try to let our work speak for itself instead.1 point -
