  2. So, my Lady and I went into Chicago Tattoo last night for our appointment, figured we'd be in an out in a few hours, had a small custom piece designed, a little coverup on my knees, no big thang. Wrong. First, Kathy spots an ancient Sailor Jerry design on the wall, and it's "can we do that instead?". Yes Dear. Then Nick shows me the drawings he's done for my coverups, and they were just a wee tad larger than I had thought.... Ah well, ended up staying for five hours, and walking out with some beautiful work. I've got to say, Nick Colella is, imho, about the best there is at Traditional American tattooing today. Anyhow, here's a few pix. The last pic is the old firecracker pack the cat heads came from.

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

This year I began with the intention of saving some money for a change. Last year was a write-off, I went overboard on a variety of things and pretty much spent everything I earned. I know that I've got some expensive stuff coming up over the next couple of years and figured I better get my act together. I've got two days booked in at Yellow Blaze at the end of the year and I had decided that was going to my last big splurge for a while. ...Then I heard today that Ching and Yang from East Tattoo are going to be at White Dragon in Belfast for almost a full month and a half around the time of the London Tattoo Convention. I was like "shit, that's a great opportunity to bring my sleeve down on my right arm like I planned... It would probably only take 2 days. Great idea, right?". No, it's a TERRIBLE IDEA! Had to more or less take myself by the scruff of my neck and shake myself.

So Grimes manager contacted me and said hes not taking appointments for next couple months unless I wanted to pay a premium charge for him to do it on one of his days off, I'm trying to see what thay fee is. I may just try to get in with Lango and a couple of the guys at Blackheart to try and finish my sleeve, we will see.

Victrious also has no photos and barely any posts and has disappeared since... Ban Hammer anyone?? Who's a musician here? You guys need to start a band called Ban Hammer... or just start the band the LSTs and make us a youtube video for your first song "Ban Hammered" so we can post it in situations like this....

  10. Im way too awkward when people ask me about any of my tattoos to progress onto my lower arms. Im fine having my torso/upper arms done, but cant see ever moving down to the forearms. I think you are good to start anywhere but neck/hands. Warped Tour body suits are no bueno.

  11. Not actually. The reason dark skin doesn't "take" color is that tattoo ink is placed below the layer of skin that contains the natural pigment. The color is in effect being shown thru a filter tinted by the skins pigment. Depending on the warm or cool values of the skin you can determine what colors will show up best. Example yellows don't show well in warm skin tones.

  22. Oh, and the belief that fast food is suitable for children, as far as they get free toy is just beyond my understanding. I hope it is marginal, not the normal behaviour but it strikes me as American. (not intending to offend. I suppose it comes from years of socialist brainwashing about the evil effects of capitalism, and those would be the first things one notices)

  25. Depends on what type of tattoo you were interested in getting. Most of these folks are able to do just about anything, but they do specialize. Are you looking for an American traditional piece? A Japanese style? Something just plain weird? You can run the gamut in San Francisco with some of the best tattooers in the world.

  26. So.....my getting tattooed by Topper at Philadelphia Eddie's on Friday evening has now turned into a tattoo road trip of sorts! Instead of riding back down to Baltimore on Friday night we are going to head north to Brooklyn, NY and I am going to try to pick up a tattoo from Mike Perfetto on Saturday.....and if I can maybe something from Steve Delgatto as well if he is going to be around town! Whew.......it will be a nice hat-trick if I can pull it off!

I never gave it any thought. I did my upper arms first, then moved down. Seemed like a natural progression to me. I also try to keep the balance between left and right. CG

    Why?

I love it when people ask me how much my tattoos cost. I always reply with, "Sorry, they're not for sale."

I think when you know a lot of tattooed folks, like most of us do, it becomes a harder question to answer. Why are so many tattooed people vegans is as relevant a question as why do so many tattooed people like bbq..... the pool of 'tattooed' people end up crossing over into so many different things that it's all skewed.
    1 point
  33. hgiles

    Why?

It doesn't bother me a bit. 1 It just makes my tattoos look that much better. 2 If you have to justify a tattoo by telling how little you paid then it's probably a shitty tattoo. 3"You'll appreciate the quality long after you've forgotten what you paid."

  37. Sounds great. This will create a database of the best tattoo shops worldwide and give real feedback from actual customers and not be cluttered up with uninformed rants by people too cheap to pay for tattoos so they feel the need to bad mouth a shop.

  38. we had a guy have a seizure at the counter of the shop where i work this week. he was there to ask about advertising... next thing you know, the two tattooers in the shop have him under the arms and i'm holding a big soft chair in place that they tried to guide him into, but he was locked up in such a way that he was only about halfway in. also, whoever he had listed on his medical bracelet didn't pick up their phone when the paramedics tried calling them. big help they were. the best part was the look in the eyes of the girl who showed up for her appointment while the EMTs were getting him some oxygen and asking him the standard questions.

I have it. I got it on my wrist from Sonny Tufts in Philly in '89. I thought it was a cool classic design that just might remind me to be a nicer person. I still feel the same way about it.

  45. Yes. This is amazingly well written. As is anything with Bruce How... normal. Fucking amazing. And this part Fucking amazing. Its normal, everyday life, but its so romantic that its more than life. Or its life seen as it really is, in all its sorrow and beauty. Thunder Road is fucking amazing in the Born to Run box where there is the live dvd from Hammersmith Odeon. Fucking sony or what ever, but they take all the good versions of the youtube, so the song isnt there anymore. But, its fucking great. Just with piano and total darkness, where you just see Bruce singing.

  46. Actually, Im drunk watching David Cross stand up and laughing constantly. Im going to download that right now (if I can find it.) I really like Skrewdrivers sound, but their lyrics after the first album were... well horrible. Ian Curtis could have been a lot more, but turned out to be a National Front asshole. I need to watch out for this band. It sounds great. While writing this I switched to Tom Waits... ohhh the sorrow!!!!

    Band or song tattoo(s)?

I just got this last week: Bad Brains fans will immediately recognize that I got that Positive Mental Attitude. But that's not what I love about this tattoo. I went back home to Texas for Thanksgiving. I usually go to Austin, where I used to live, to spend it with my brother, but this year, we all went to my parents' house. Now, my parents are very old school conservatives. In fact, they don't even know I have tattoos (although I think they're beginning to suspect it). My oldest nephew is 27 and is very much the black sheep of the family. But for the past few years, he's worked as a piercer/tattooer. He's not all that welcome at my parents' house, but he's my nephew and I love him. His younger brother drove me to his shop to pay him a visit. It was the first time I'd seen him in 10 years; as soon as I saw him, I knew I had to get tattooed by him. He was really honored and I was very, very touched to be able to add a piece from a family member to my collection. He's also a Bad Brains fan, and it seemed like a good choice for a quickie tattoo. This one means more to me than anything else I have.
