"Tattoo what you want", misleading or true?
Bunny Switchblade and one other reacted to slayer9019 for a topic
Yesterday when I was getting tattooed I asked my artist what he would want to tattoo, or have always wanted to tattoo. Just looking at what he's done on me already and what sketching hang on his wall, I realized that I have pretty terrible ideas, and he has awesome ideas.2 points -

When you go in and talk to him :D Or when you see that one eagle that makes you say, YES, that's the one. I get that you're not planning on going and getting covered in tattoos and I'm not saying you need to exhaust yourself going to every shop, but wouldn't hurt to take an afternoon and drive that half an hour to check out one or two you think you might like. And if you can find that gem where they do great work and you feel a connection? Even better. Spending a bunch of time on the internet wringing your hands about it and sending emails won't be nearly as productive as just going and checking some spots out. It'd make a nice little day, too, visit some shops, grab some lunch.. worse things have happened.2 points -

@slayer9019 - "Hipster-ass Hipster Bike for Hipsters" = hilarious. That was awesome lol. This line got me sore in the gut piece from laughing: "...It's supersturdy now; I welded it to fuck and back. I painted the welding joint green because I was feeling creative and I don't have to explain my art to anyone."2 points

I guess I envision pinks, purples, delicate (or maybe the word I should use is softer) lines. Flowers, butterflies. Different from the designs I already have. Why? ETA- sorry I just saw your other comment. I'll go look at the other thread. I've seen the first sketch and it's exactly what I think of when I told him that.1 point -

One other thing I notice whoever started this site posted a bunch of "scratcher" tattoo photos and then a bunch of their own work, but they both come up under the same user name. I can tell the difference, but I would be worried others would not.1 point -

@Avery Taylor Keep an eye out for us... I am thinking a PNW run is called for... I'll get him as north as Seattle... To Ernie Gosnells shop, you guys will have to cross, it's all a matter of road conditions, and shop forecasts... Gonna hunker down here in Reno,NV... Hit Sacramento, CA then go to Electric Oni, in Petaluma, and then haul ass through Oregon to Washington... If he's feeling it. We're getting within reach of our goal for suffice shop capital, "Imagine that a shop built from money made with doing paintings and tattoos", hum, something to be said, hell even my Daddy bank rolled me in my first piercing shop... I have learned a lot since then, and I wouldn't dream of not earning this shop in every sense of the word.... Just keep in touch with me, I know I am not posting a lot of info as to our whereabouts and future plans, I am being really strategic. And just trying to roll with it, I'm so over being on the road, and each day can suck the life out of me. Between juggling all Richards Balls... then my own two tits... I need more hands. Multiple pun intended. I'm out of medicinals and I loathe the thought of venturing out of this room at this hour. Fucking Reno, I went to walk the dog this morning, and some euro douche, wearing mirrored aviator sunglasses, shorts, cowboy boots, and enough fake tanner and hair gel to sponsor the cast from Jersey Shore... HAY BaYYBAY'd me waiting on the elevator, to which I responded "you smell like tacos" and exited the elevator with Chinga, our blue heeler... I was in a hoodie, and snow pant thermals half awake...WTF. I laughed my ass off when Chinga took a big dump mid parking lot. . . Oh it's such a glamorous life...(bullshit).1 point -

Chicano Tattoo Style
Stewart Robson reacted to Tim Hendricks for a topic
I started with 'homemade machines' and sharpening my needles on matchbooks. All I knew at the time was single needle and black ink, I was totally clueless to anything else. When I met real tattooers and learned to make real needles I was instantly hooked, there was no turning back. I rarely use single needle these days, I want my tattoos to last as long the person I make them on, but I am very proud to know how to wield a single needle when need be. I believe Chicano style comes purely from where you came from as a tattooer and how you learned. Some try and copy it, some actually do an amazing job at creating it as well, but in my opinion the only people who can tattoo that true Chicano style are the people who lived it. ps - Ben Grillo tattooed my foot yesterday, he busted out the single needle, ouch.1 point -
Your First Tattoo Story
hogg reacted to smiling.politely for a topic
nothing too eventful... when i was 20 (in 2007), i got some text and a skull on my left forearm. my dad has the same text on his forearm, and since i was unsure as to what my goals in coverage would be at the time, i figured that getting that tattoo in dedication to my parents would always ring true with me. plus, skulls are rad.1 point -

Religious tattoos...on the non-religious
tacitapproval reacted to ShawnPorter for a topic
The first commandent says: You shall have no other gods before Me. It doesn't deny the existence of other gods; just that you can't put them before YHWH. So I'm sure the creation stories had a little from Brahma, a little from Tiamat, etc. Anyhoo.. got off topic for a bit. I'm an atheist. I'm covered with religious work; Tibetan Buddhism, Satanism, Hindu, Christian, Hebrew, Christian Mysticism.... you name it. I don't really think there's a conflict with religious imagery on a nonreligious person. Sure, having Hindu gods on my neck has led to a lot of conversations about respect and culture (the best being a Hindu friend defending me to her daughter- "if you love Lord Krsna more than he does, why is he not on YOUR neck!". Gotta love my Pushpa Dashwani!) and the Baphomet on my hand has led to more than a few fun situations but by and large... It's no different than having Peter Pan tattooed on you. Which I do. Hah.1 point -
