  3. Forget emails dude (if time and distance permit), find a shop or tattooer you're into and just go talk to them. If you can loosen up your budget a bit that'd also be a plus just to be safe. Don't forget, like any other service it's also good form to tip. Lastly, I'll stick to other "advice" I've given before, to just get more tattoos. But make sure they're nicer ones that you're happier with.

  4. Tattoos are something you should get when you are young and carefree. There will be a time when you don't have all this free time or extra money to spend on tattoos, so if you are fortunate enough to be able to get tattooed regularly do it. Dan Higgs, Chris Conn, Scott Harrison have "quit tattooing", Ed Hardy isn't taking appointments, Pinky Yun, Mike Malone, Eric Maaske, Mike Brown are not with us anymore. I kick myself for not getting tattooed by some of these people when I had the chance. (especially Malone as I got tattooed at his shop just a few short months after). Now I am not saying there isn't plenty of people left to get tattooed by, my point is you never know when it will be too late. Yeah you probably don't want to finish before 30, so yeah maybe take a break from booking out tattoos every month and maybe just travel, don't stop getting tattooed, just don't plan it for awhile. Take trips with no expectation of getting tattooed and if you stumble upon a good shop or opportunity to get tattooed by someone cool, then do it. I had a conversation with a couple of tattooers I really look up to yesterday and one of them pointed out it's hard to be the old grizzled guy with gnarly tattoos if you keep getting new tattoos and also will I really want to get tattooed by the 25 year old hot shot, when i am in my fifties, shoot I don't want to do that know for the most part (no offense 25 year old hot shots).

  5. The first commandent says: You shall have no other gods before Me. It doesn't deny the existence of other gods; just that you can't put them before YHWH. So I'm sure the creation stories had a little from Brahma, a little from Tiamat, etc. Anyhoo.. got off topic for a bit. I'm an atheist. I'm covered with religious work; Tibetan Buddhism, Satanism, Hindu, Christian, Hebrew, Christian Mysticism.... you name it. I don't really think there's a conflict with religious imagery on a nonreligious person. Sure, having Hindu gods on my neck has led to a lot of conversations about respect and culture (the best being a Hindu friend defending me to her daughter- "if you love Lord Krsna more than he does, why is he not on YOUR neck!". Gotta love my Pushpa Dashwani!) and the Baphomet on my hand has led to more than a few fun situations but by and large... It's no different than having Peter Pan tattooed on you. Which I do. Hah.

  8. From what I understand, the downstroke should always be the heavier side - such as the right leg of the A, the middle stroke of the N, The left middle and final stroke of the M, and so on. These three letters are the ones I see backwards most often. This is what we are talking about, right?

    Backwards letters

No, the typeface we all use for letting in banners and signpainting and such is an adaption of Times New Roman. If you look at an example of that font vs many letters in tattoos and knuckles esp you will notice the most glaring of all, the commonly incorrently drawn 'A'. Same also for M, N, S, U, V, W, X, Y. Pretty much anything with an open end up or an open end down.

  11. I've got a chest panel and half-sleeve from Jesse. Like Hogrider says, I'd recommend him highly, especially for Neo-Japanese style. He's also pretty well-versed in a variety of styles. I just gave him a rough idea as to subject matter and let him (as the artist) decide the layout and flow of things.

  15. who: Ryan George @ Almost Famous Tattoos - Tattoo & Piercing - Miami, FL | Facebook what: Oni Head when: a few months back, maybe November 2011 why: I gave my friend Steven Vanni a ride to almost famous because he had an appointment with Greg Christian who was in town. I walked into Ryan George getting tattooed by Greg Christian. I had some serious small talk with Ryan, Showed him the machine I bought from my mentor. So stoked on catching a glimpse of a great tattooer tattooing a bad ass design on another great tattooer. I asked Ryan if I could schedule an appointment.

  19. Sounds like you'll be stoked on it, regardless! Also, you should be buddies with @jade1955 who also started "late in the game" and is currently going nuts like a kid/ @dcostello in a candy/liquor store, getting consistently tattooed by some great tattooers, and putting the rest of us to shame. Better late than never!

    NYC meet up?

So I stopped by yesterday and met up with @gougetheeyes. We thought it would be a good idea to try to get this meet up going every once in a while so I propose that we try another meetup the week of April 6th. I talked to @Reyeslv and he said he would be in the area during that week. @Jack, @Bauzzza, @LeoKraft, @G.Uristti, @Joe Shit, @The Hyena you think you guys could make it out?

  27. Yea it is very good to establish a loose budget. The way I go into getting a tattoo is guesstimate the cost (say $500) then add on another sessions cost incase it runs over budget. That is the ideal way in my opinion, so you don't end up watching the clock while getting tattooed. I ended up doing that once, and it was terrible! Make sure you got at least another hours pay with you just in case!

  28. It's funny that you posted this today since I just a similar conversation with @gougetheeyes yesterday. He pointed out that I have a ton of free space left and you dont really realize how much space you do have. While I still might take a quick "break" towards the end of the year I am looking to travel a bit out of my area in the future, possibly trying to plan a trip out to Cali in the later months/very beginning of next year. I spoke to my friend who is about 30 now and he said that he is starting to race a bit to get the tattoos he wants now because he doesn't really like sitting for that long anymore.

  31. Man, I wish all the people I tattooed valued my opinion over theirs. Trying to politely convince someone that their tattoo is a bad idea when they are dead set on it can be pretty draining...

  32. I would say the only way to get a "real" black metal tattoo" would be some kind of stick and poke. This is of course if your are a "true black metal fan" as low production quality is better. I joke, but seriously that is some pretty black metal stuff there. In all seriousness you should check out Uncle Allen. Dude has some unreal black metal stuff!

So i guess doing shitty money bags makes you a good artist... I mean I left bankhead hwy. (atl) for a reason. I thought that it was funny how he referred to tattoo artist being like rockstars... I guess thats why the show kind of annoyed me. Loose the fucking ego's!!!! but if tattooist are like rockstars, then consider me abba.

  38. Not really. When you have an abomination like that on you it really doesn't matter how fucking straight it is. Horrible judgement from everyone involved, and I hope like hell that not only is he regretting doing it, but I hope that Norm is regretting taking the photo, and putting it out there for the world to see. Also I have never been a big fan of the world's gone to shit so why shouldn't I just go along with it excuse. That is about the lamest shit ever in my opinion. I have made some bad decisions in my life and I don't think that I am a bad person. I don't think that doing the tattoo makes the guy a bad guy, but it was the wrong thing to do.
