Perhaps that sounds creepy but those of you in the know recognize the statement. I've known Chad for over 20 years. I am happy to say that his art has grown so much over the years. If you are fortunate enough to be tattoed by him, consider yourself charmed. It will change your life. It changed mine.4 points -
"Tattoo what you want", misleading or true?
remindsmeofyou and 3 others reacted to Bunny Switchblade for a topic
I generally let the artist do what he or she wants to do or is stoked about doing! I have found that if an artist is excited about doing the tattoo that i generally am going to get their best work and they usually are happier and more talkative because they are finally doing something they want to do not something the customer has asked them to do! This could also be why i have 2 vaginas, 3 dildos, and a penis tattooed on me too.....but hey....I have no regrets and love every single tattoo i have in my collection! :)4 points -

good morning yall....yeah.. so the Shane guy won the prize...that doesnt make him a nice person. I will say , he is quite the technician. As far as this whole squabbly discussion goes, and yeah ,I stirred it up a little, thats what entertainments all about right? If you let me upset you I got your attention . Freddy... I worked for Freddy for a minute when he first opened Temple. I hadnt seen him in yrs. Last christmas I swung by his shop. after roughly 13 yrs of not seeing him he treated me with open arms like a good friend. Im not saying we're the best of friends. Im saying he is one of the sweetest people Ive known. Open heart. This has nothing todo with technical abilities. In these days of ''human canvases'', what a discusting crock that is....... Lets not forget. you gotta like that shithead behind the needle.... otherwise you are just a starf#cker. I left this biz for a lot of years. Yeah...out of total frustration. I ve had some friends in this biz that are now ''important'' characters. They have helped me recently with open arms. Not because Im a great tattooer, not because Im a name, ( don t get me wrong , I know I m neither), but because I never f#cked em, because Im OK. I try not to be a dick. Because I care about this shit. I know not to give it away. I currently tattoo in Foley AL theres not a lot of talent here , But the crappy little shop I work in recently had somebody with talent come to work there and stay, he says ,to work around me. We are brutally honest with each other, Im getting better, and so is he. We help each other. And the people in this place are getting OK tattoos. So..... If you think I shouldnt try my hardest to do what i can, with what Ive got, and do right to those that want it, you are a damn fool. Its a big world... for every 20 scratchers there's somebody like me, trying as hard as i can, knowing damn well,I'll never be on MTV. I could give a shit less, I sleep well.3 points -

That's really neat that the dudes you go to charge 200 dollars an hour and have your best interest in mind. Us "shoeshine" boys don't always get to pick and choose what we get to tattoo.3 points -
if it was anything like going to a doctor, i'd gladly accept $60 to tell you to see my specialist buddy and then also gladly accept another $60 to have you come back and see me to tell me how the visit with my specialist buddy went. or really what would be great is if we could get someone else involved like a large corporate insurance group and you can make regular payments to them of say $250. then come see me, i'll take $15 from you and then i'll send a bill to the insurance group for $100. then you can see my buddy and come back and give me another $15 and then i'll send another bill for $100 out and we'll all feel better about the situation since you only had to pay me $30 to not really do anything other than have a little chat. i'll actually come out ahead on the money side. so it's kinda nothing like going to the doctor. not to be inflammatory, just an observation as far as being treated like cattle, i agree but the whole premise of this show is designed for sheep and the help mold new sheep for the herd.3 points

P.S : Hes favourite tv show is 24, but he went crazy talking about BREAKING BAD, lol. P.S 2:We alsow talked about how i should get something from the master Robert Hernandez, anybody got something from him? Cheers2 points -
ooft ... I dont know any Tattooer who would knock back work in this day and age. Send you to another shop ???!! No chance !! They might refer you to another artist within the same shop (maybe ...) . Its a buyers market up there and its up to the artists to keep their skills up ...2 points

you are not the average walk in. My whole point was about how ''Ink Masters'' seems to try and play a double standard.Taking some ''specialists'' and trying to see how diverse they are. It doesnt make sense to me. A friend of a co tattooer of mine is/was on this show, he specializes in Jap/style, he seemed uncomfortable with some of the projects. Its shameful, I would not like to be on any of these shows, I would come off an idiot. although I feel proficent at a few different crafts displayed on this show, TV seems to be more about humiliation , rather than uplifting the craft. Lets face it, Just because your a rockstar, it doesnt make your opinions valid. All these reality shows are about conflict more than anything. I knew a guy that was on ,I think the first ''Real World''. He was handpicked by his uncle an MTV producer. he was picked because he liked to rub people wrong, just to see if he could get under thier skin. Its TV, not reality. Your average tattoo customer , doesnt care about any of this, blogs,TV, any of it. I seem to do more cover ups than ever, lots of tattooers wont even try.So, I try and help people with thier tattoo problems daily. Its not easy. Its hard. But, I try and do the best that I can. To quote my friend,S.Sylvia....''It beats cuttin' pork chops''. Because I care about what I do, I could make a better living doing another trade Im qualified to do, But I would rather push myself personally, Doing something I care about. Doing the best that I can , while Im here.2 points -

@hgiles did the artist who did your right arm advise you that he was not the best in class for your idea? If a customer goes into Burger king does the employee tell them there is a better burger joint across the street? Art is so subjective and most including myself will be very naive about what they are looking at. As someone providing a subjective service(which is usually a collaboration of 2 if not more minds) I would feel compelled to put forward my best efforts , without turning away business. Its part of the consumers responsibility to know what he is in market for. If I sell mid level cars and i have a customer that wants one of them i dont reiterate that its not as good as X brand. I assume that the guy looking at my ford taurus is not in the market for a mercedes benz.2 points -

The artist Im talking about...i think is pretty "big" without being a mainstream TV tattooer. Hes never claimed to have the best lines or best anything, but he does what he does well and pushes his work all the time. As a testament to that you see people copy it all the time...often people copy it and clean up/overly perfect many aspects but in that remove all the character/soul and feeling to the tattoo. Naming names and calling things out is pointless. Recently reading the internet in regards to tattooing has really bummed me out, lots of shit talking. Too much competitive tattooing and hater bullshit. Nothing constructive whatsoever. LST is basicly the only place that I have found thats enjoyable to be a part of.1 point

I usually have an idea in mind and then I look for an artist where that vibe and style is represented in his portfolio. Getting a sense of the artist personally is important to me too. I'll have the tattoo forever, I dont want to be saying, yeah the tattoo is great, but the artist was a prick. Or something worse. I got to know something about the person before I will commit. Then I just give him\her a rough idea. "I want a foo dog and I want it to cover this much area.". The rest is what I pay the artist to do - layout, design, flow, size, color. He's the professional. He knows best. If Ive done my homework properly thats all the guidance needed.1 point

While I agree that this is usually the case, there are exceptions. My partner has a large scar on her lower leg that she would eventually like to try tattooing over. Freddy Corbin did a couple of tattoos on her back and went over another, much smaller, scar. She talked to him about tattooing the larger scar on her leg and he wasn't comfortable doing it, but referred her to someone (at a different shop) who would. She found Freddy in the first place by being referred to him by a tattooer in San Diego after she told him she was moving to Oakland.1 point

In 2008, the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco invited Horitaka of State of Grace to participate in their MATCHA series. Horitaka not only gave a lecture on Japanese tattooing--he also tattooed a client in the museum, as did Horitomo, Horiyuki (aka Jill Bonny), Colin Kenji and Shige (who was also accompanied by one of his clients). Horitomo put in a few hours on my arm, then worked on Khalil Rintye's ribs for a while. It was a very odd experience. I've been tattooed at conventions, but this was very different. At conventions, most of the attendees are tattooed. At the museum, that was not the case; tons of people were coming up and asking me all kinds of questions. (If only I'd brought earbuds--plugged into nothing--I could've played it off like I couldn't hear them.) In the end, I was happy to participate. Until last week, I never knew there was a video of the event. Check it out: at 3:40, you can see me and my buddy Clem comparing open spots on our legs. Clem's the guy with the huuuuuuge Jeff Zuck panther on his back (as well as lots of other awesome stuff). But my favorite thing about this is that the top youtube comment says, "0:59 is that Ami James?" :D1 point

Reading his responses I was almost compelled to send him an 'customer service 101' primer. here's a tip: Eat the shit sandwich. "Andy, I'm so sorry this has taken so long and I'd be happy to refund you and even send you a machine on me to make up for your terrible experience." Then refund. Then ship the comp'd machine. KISS A LITTLE ASS. There are tons of people making machines; you have options out the ass when you're buying a new one. So when someone has a bad experience... hustle. Kiss that ass. Make it right. People never learn. Good luck with the refund, Duder.1 point -

I joined just to contribute a photo of my neck-to-knees backpiece done by Dan Wysuph at Samuel O'Reilly's in Santa Cruz, CA. My username here was derived from the nickname I earned by spending so much time naked in their shop. I think Adam Barton originally coined it and everyone there calls me that to this day. It took 20 three-hour sessions over the course of almost 2 years. To answer an earlier question regarding healing, it is not sitting on fresh tattoo that hurts, it's sitting down or standing up, or just about any other activity that makes your clothes (or sheets!) rub the area. Also, having a wife to help with the cleaning aspect of the healing process was a huge help. -1891-1 point -
