Some guy named @Scott Sylvia put a cobra over my elbow. It swelled up nicely: But healed perfectly: Every tattooer who sees it is amazed that he got that red in like that in one pass.12 points

yeah, totally not trying to imply that was your motive @Kev. more so just an observation of how things on the internet can move quickly (and frequently) in a negative direction and usually towards something that can't or won't change. i think the ink masters thread is what really got me to thinking about things. i mean i remember when there was a huge "movement" to stop the tattoo school show and then a internet high five session occurred amonst all these groups of people because they believed that they had stopped the show...when in reality it still aired on tv. my impression was that everyone bound together to stop something they felt was going to damage the trade/craft/etc. oddly enough, i know many people who were so against it being on tv and yet they still watched it. then when this tattoo competition comes on, which is just a manipulation like any tv show. i don't see how this doesn't do as much damage as the tattoo school show. it's not a reality and as i've noticed in the ink masters thread there's all sorts of negativity that comes from how this show is intentially produced. these tv folks don't give a shit about any of us, but yet it's been allowed to infiltrate and manipulate us just like the rest of the mindless masses. they want us to watch, even if out of guility pleasure. they want us to talk about it because when we do, more people will pay attention and thus more seasons and more money in their pockets. that theard in here has almost as many posts as any of the ones that are really awesome and people show off what they got done and by who and how great the experience was...so i guess all i'm saying is i hope more people will try to focus on/continuing to promoting all the good. because in the end, if someone is doing something to actually wrong or damaging and doesn't really care about doing it. then there is no real stopping that person. but when we all plant the seeds of good then everything that comes from it will be a benefit and maybe/hopefully one day it will start to obscure the negativity and the dependence on mass media brainwashing us into a bummerland.5 points -

ok here's mine. was easier than i thought to photo my elbow with the help of a mirror and my iPhone. done by Chris David, then of TCB tattoo toronto, now he works in BC i think in victoria somewheres. People are always shocked he did the heart red and that i haven't had it touched up. It looks a little darker in the photo because I used lotion right before it was taken. It could use another pass on the red, it's a little blotchy when I bend my elbow all the way, but it's in there pretty good. looking at these pics makes me realize i need to get some more shit around that thing!4 points -

Not exactly what you're talking about, but.... A few years back, I went to a tattooer who also did lasering to get some kanji zapped off my shin. He did several sessions, but it wasn't lightening up much, so he decided to try something. He tattooed white over it, let it heal, then lasered it again. The end result was...well, it wasn't as good as what @Scott R's results are, but I was able to cover it pretty easily. It went from this youthful indiscretion: To this lasered and white-inked version: To this Jeff Rassier piece:4 points -

I'd like to start a chicano style tattoo threat. The style is a favorite of mine. It also translates well into traditional style tattooing. I'd like to know which tattooers are highly influenced by this style, as I'd like to get more work done. Some of my favorite chicano style tattooers are: Jack Rudy Freddy Corbin Eli Quinters Jason McAfee Tim Hendricks Daniel Albrigo Fernando Lions Chuco Moreno UZI Here are some of my tattoos. Based off of Teen Angels Magazines. By Eli Quinters. [/img] [/img]2 points -

I didn't see it as a negative thing. There were some harsh comments for sure (me included, I apologize), but some good came from it also. As a group of dedicated fans, clients, collectors of good work, and the artists who pour their hearts into giving us the art we want to wear till we're worm food, LST to me represents a tiny portion of an already small sub-culture. One that respects the history, tradition, and ethics of the artform we love. Someone who was doing something wrong got called out for it on a public platform, and as a result hopefully learned a harsh lesson in the error of their ways. If no one had spoke out it would just been one more occurrence of a lack of ethics and originality being allowed to further dilute the little pool we swim in. Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.2 points

The guy with the tattoo is Bernie Perez. He worked at Inksmith and was a pretty awesome dude. Sadly he passed away a couple years ago. He had some amazing tattoos by some of the top tattooers of our time. He was a troubled soul and hopefully is doing better wherever he may be now. You're right though, it is one of the best chests I've seen. Shit like that makes me mad that I have titties all getting in the way of a tattoo like that!2 points

Charlie and Jack pretty much pioneered the style ,in a shop, that is. I worked for GTC for almost 10 yrs. I would have to say those tattoos are nice, but, done in a very traditional style. We used single needles for yrs, but I never touch em nowdays. much of the premades are plenty tight enough. you left out a lot of important cats, Freddy Negrete, Flame, Mike Brown,GTC, These are some of the founding fathers.2 points -
i would say they used the same reference. did a bunch of tracing and went for it. but if you notice shane moved the hand and put a mic in it. and if you further notice. the indentation from where that hand was is still in the dress.2 points

I definitely didn't have the intention of creating any negativity or drama by posting this here. I'm aware that a good number of tattooers are not big Facebook or instagram and may not have been aware of this situation through there. The way I see it, something positive did come from this- a lot of people who care strongly about tattooing pulled together as a community (rather than a 'mob') and supported each other.2 points

Someone claiming to be Sue created an Etsy profile just to send me a message this morning. It was again going on about the cancer and how hard she's had it and blah blah blah. I replied and told her, don't apologize to me, I'm not a tattooer you ripped off, go talk to them. Re-itterated that I thought it was wrong and suggested if she wants to make a public statement to us (us meaning the LST members who posted in this thread) to do it here and not through my online store. @JAllen is right though, we should all (myself included) maybe focus our mob energy and influence, 'cause it appears we as an online tatto group have one, towards some of the positive things on this site like the amazing interviews and articles Scott and others have posted for us to enjoy.2 points -
@RoryQ, it's always, always better to start too light than to start too heavy! I'll let @kylegrey weigh in here with a much more authoritative voice, but my two cents is that you should squat instead of leg press if at all possible. I got a lot out of a high-rep squat routine, and I'm sure you would, too.1 point

I don't have television for the reason of shows like these. I'm still an apprentice, have been for the past 4 years and I know I may not know a whole hell of a lot yet but I try to read as much as possible, talk with older folks, and find as much as I can. I feel as though shows like this portray tattoo artists as a joke. They over dramatize the industry for ratings and make every viewer an expert on tattoos. I work with great people who've been tattooing for many many years and I respect the hell out of them and to see something that they've worked their whole lives for and that we all love shown as a high school sissy fighting contest I feel saddened. Not to mention that being as how people aren't exactly the smartest these days and no one tries to find anything out for themselves they just listen to the television.. we have a barrage of arrogant asshole customers thinking they know better than us and that everything should only take "15 minutes". This show is just another recycled piece of crap like all the rest, top chef, next top model, etc. My thought is if you don't like whats going on, than turn off the television once ratings go down things go away. Just my two cents. cheers, krista1 point -

It's not a drawing contest- it's a tattooing contest----- and a visually attractive and commercially marketable contest as well. I was talking to my husband after watching the result portion of a few of the episodes, and based on the work shown I felt confident that I could "out tattoo" them so to speak. And he pointed out that I would never get chosen for the show because of a number of factors, the number one being that i'm not relevant in today's market. I'm old(er), chubbier and less model like than the participants. These factors may fly with a male contestant or judge, but never a female. There goes my hundred grand ):1 point -
