GREAT experience getting tattooed by Jaie Devore at Perfection yesterday. I surrounded by so many cool pieces of art and history- having an original dragon from Ed Hardy's Dragon scroll project stare down at me while I was getting tattooed, not to mention all the other various pieces of art from various heavy hitters was something else. I also had the immense pleasure of talking to Bob Moreau for most of the tattoo as well, sharing stories about the old days, books, traveling, etc. Well worth the price of admission. Jaie knocked the concept out of the park:8 points

Charlie and Jack pretty much pioneered the style ,in a shop, that is. I worked for GTC for almost 10 yrs. I would have to say those tattoos are nice, but, done in a very traditional style. We used single needles for yrs, but I never touch em nowdays. much of the premades are plenty tight enough. you left out a lot of important cats, Freddy Negrete, Flame, Mike Brown,GTC, These are some of the founding fathers.4 points -

Someone claiming to be Sue created an Etsy profile just to send me a message this morning. It was again going on about the cancer and how hard she's had it and blah blah blah. I replied and told her, don't apologize to me, I'm not a tattooer you ripped off, go talk to them. Re-itterated that I thought it was wrong and suggested if she wants to make a public statement to us (us meaning the LST members who posted in this thread) to do it here and not through my online store. @JAllen is right though, we should all (myself included) maybe focus our mob energy and influence, 'cause it appears we as an online tatto group have one, towards some of the positive things on this site like the amazing interviews and articles Scott and others have posted for us to enjoy.3 points -

I'd like to start a chicano style tattoo threat. The style is a favorite of mine. It also translates well into traditional style tattooing. I'd like to know which tattooers are highly influenced by this style, as I'd like to get more work done. Some of my favorite chicano style tattooers are: Jack Rudy Freddy Corbin Eli Quinters Jason McAfee Tim Hendricks Daniel Albrigo Fernando Lions Chuco Moreno UZI Here are some of my tattoos. Based off of Teen Angels Magazines. By Eli Quinters. [/img] [/img]2 points -

The guy with the tattoo is Bernie Perez. He worked at Inksmith and was a pretty awesome dude. Sadly he passed away a couple years ago. He had some amazing tattoos by some of the top tattooers of our time. He was a troubled soul and hopefully is doing better wherever he may be now. You're right though, it is one of the best chests I've seen. Shit like that makes me mad that I have titties all getting in the way of a tattoo like that!2 points

Like the others said, I've never done the full routine of it, but I've done 10x10 a couple times. It's rough. It takes a couple workouts to find your ideal weight. I always got cocky and overshot. Then again, I had no idea how to lift back in those days.... I got a deep tissue massage this Saturday to alleviate some mid back tightness. Oye, that was worth the pain. My back feels amazing, and just in time for dead lift day.2 points -

Its more about self determination and equality tho ?? Look at history and tell me how often in the past that other "races" (i hate that term too...) have been treated equally by imperialist white masters for fucks sake , you still had segregation in the US within the last 50 years !!! So why the fuck are you complaining about the "pride" thing ???? Your posts are nonsense you cant justify anything by saying "Everyone in the world is racist to some extent" you want some dip to go with that chip on your shoulder ?2 points -

no attack meant here, so please don't read this in that way. i understand everyone's point of view is different, as are everyone's experiences, but i've never understood being proud of one's heritage in that fashion. research and knowledge of it is one thing, but why be proud of anything you have no control over. i'm not proud to be ginger, have ten fingers, or to have astigmatism, so why should i be proud of whatever color my skin is? i'm proud of the things i've worked hard for in my life, the things that i had control over. things that weren't determined by a genetic happenstance. is there a double standard about it in the world? yes. but if that's going to change, aggressive acceptance of one side of said double standard probably won't be the way. mind you, at this rate, we may never reach a "we're all humans, who cares about race, creed, color, or religion... let's party!" stage, but i guess we can hope. and actually, slight retraction... after the years in metal shops and wood shops making sculptures with bandsaws and grinders whirring away and liquid metal being poured around me frequently (and occasionally popping out of wet molds and showering me and my compatriots), i guess i am somewhat proud to still have all ten fingers.2 points -

Best post tattoo care?
JesseBlunt reacted to Dan S for a topic
Whoa...some seriously serious ways to care for a tattoo! Okay...I've got tattoos that are around 30-35 years old, and still look pretty damn good, color is bright, lines are crisp, all like that. I'm looking at a cover-up on my left forearm that Dale Grande did in 1984, and it looks about good as new. The main color is a light purple, and we were both a bit worried that it might fade-out with time. Hasn't happened. So here is the aftercare recommended at the time: Leave the bandage on overnight, then remove and shower. Use unscented lotion sparingly to keep the tattoo from drying out. Don't pick the scabs. Period. Actually, at the time I got that cover-up, the hot ticket for tattoo healing was, believe it or not, Preparation H. Keeps the tat a little moist, and eliminates the swelling. When I got the outlining done for my sleeve, I flew to Mexico the next morning, way the hell up in the mountains, and my arm didn't appreciate the sudden change from -10F to 100F...swole up like a balloon. Hit the local Pharmacia, got some Preparation H, and within an hour all was well again. I've never used any of the new stuff, got my last work done a year ago, and just used plain old Dial to shower with, and Bacitracyn to keep it from getting dry enoug to crack. Still seems to work. So whatever works for you! Just remember, you don't have to re-invent the wheel every time you get ink done. (and make sure it's a 13 and not a 31)1 point -

I went for a pinup version of kim jung il with a chainsaw in one hand and making the shocker with the other hand. the explanation follows. I think that people need to understand the barbarity of the North Korean regime. Now that he is dead it is important for us never to forget it. The chainsaw represents the lives he has sacrificed and the shocker gesture is to underline the truly 'shocking' legacy of violence and ignorance he has left the world. The fact that he is a pinup girls is to underline the age old concept of wolf in sheep's clothing, the perceived positive aspects of conformity and solidarity contrasted with the horrible crimes humanity has suffered at his hands. I am using this tattoo as an opportunity to show the world something very near to my heart, human rights, and to honor my mother, who is a major supporter of my struggle to secure a decent life for everyone on G-d's green Earth. Cobra design originally by Sailor jerry, repainted for the asbury park tattoo convention. the script underneath was tattooed by Rich Heller, also at Electric tattoo in Bradley Beach NJ. and the girl was tattooed on my 20th birthday, lots of fun. the dagger on my shin was designed by Dan Higgs. One of my favorite tattoos so far ALSO, an extremely underrated tattooer is Tom Yak, also at Electric Tattoo1 point -

Im all about my GORUCK training right now. Running 6-8 miles with 4-5 bricks in my bag then doing push-ups, pull ups, sit ups, flutters, Burpees, bear crawls... and drinking beer for good measure.1 point -
At the moment I'm easing back into training after a lay-off due to a neck injury with a simple upper / lower body split based around DB benching, bodyweight exercises and a lot of single-leg exercises like rear leg elevated split squats and single leg squats. A lot of mobility work, a lot of prehab/rehab with bands and light weights. Ramping up back into normal training although I don't think I'll be going back to BJJ any time soon. As time has passed I have made progress using various programmes and approaches, and I'm inclined to agree with Dan John ( Dan John, Lifting and Throws Coach - great coach ) when he says 'everything works [for a while]'. The caveat I would add is that you can also injure yourself or self-limit your progress dramatically by trying to implement the wrong programme, having poor technique, screwing up your diet, not sleeping enough yadda yadda yadda. I think, if I were going to go back in time and start all over again, I would begin from the ground up in this way:- 1. I would learn how to begin my training with a proper dynamic warm-up. A joint mobility warm-up from the likes of Mike Boyle ( Strength Coach.com | Strength and Conditioning | Sports Training ) that will ensure I had the joint mobility where I needed it, and the joint stability where I needed it. Some folks need a more stable lower back ... Some people need to loosen up their hips. Neglecting something can lead to an injury down the road, or limit your lifts. 2. I'd either find a good coach or I'd pick a classic strength programme that has worked for thousands of other people in my shoes. I'm talking Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength, or Bill Starr's 5X5 or Joe Difranco's WS4SB. Something that is there in black and white, with nothing exotic that is time-tested and well-regarded by shitloads of smarter people than you. Typically what they all have in common is lots of the fundamentals : A horizontal push, a horizontal pull, a vertical push, a vertical pull, some shoulder work, some posterior chain stuff and big knee-dominant squat variation. Most of the programmes I mentioned there are good all-round strength programmes that will put a bit of mass on a novice or intermediate trainee. If I wanted to go for more hypertrophy and mass gain I'd maybe consider something like Poloquin's German Volume Training. If I were just looking to compete in power lifting or oly lifting I'd get a proper coach and maybe follow a Westside or Mike Burgener / Greg Everett programme. Basically, I'd follow the track already well-worn by proven programmes and coaches. 3. I'd perfect my technique and make sure I was moving well with sub maximal weights before I started to try and get strong. I've added weight on top of poor movement patterns and the result is always fucked up. Less weight, executed perfectly = the foundation to add weight safely later and more progress in the long run. 4. I'd eat better. 2g of protein for every kg of bodyweight minimum. I'd watch my carbs and I'd eat more fat than 'most people' think is a good idea instead. For me I think the stuff the likes of Robb Wolfe and Mark Sisson have written about eating the way our paleolithic ancestores ate makes sense to me, but your mileage may vary. It's a pretty good way to strip fat off, but if you're a powerlifter or bodybuilder I think you need to eat a little dirty to get the necessary calories to pack on muscle. 5. I'd try and sleep 8 hours a day, which is unworkable in my current job. I'd take my rest days seriously and not bike, run, do a martial arts class... I'd rest and let my body do its job and adapt to the training I was doing the rest of the week. 6. I'd study the fuck out of articles and books about sports injuries and try and figure out ways to avoid common issues people have, again and again, like knee problems and rotator cuff problems. I'd do things like make sure my pressing to pulling ratio (say, bench to pullup) exercise ratio was at least 1:1 in my programming, and more like 1:2 if I were feeling twinges in my shoulder. If I had bad knees I'd do single leg work to bullet-proof them before things went south. If I had a bad back I would do core work and chuck out anything that heavily compressed it (like back squats, deadlifts) for a while. Education = good. So is having the number of a good physio with a proven tack record. 7. For fat loss and conditioning I think once your diet is right the best approach is old school : Carries, drags, pushes, bodyweight circuits, sprints / shuttle runs, kettlebells ... Anaerobic > long slow distance work most of the time, IMO. I reckon that's most of my philosophy:- 1. Learn enough not to get injured. 2. Pick the right programme for you and implement it properly. 3. If it goes wrong go to a professional and let them fix you. And repeat until you're put in a box and buried. Whenever I read one of those news cuttings about some curmudgeonly old veteran who is still working out at 80 and puts some teenage mugger in hospital with his cane, I think - 'I want to be that guy when I'm that age'.1 point

I don't have time to read this whole thread, although I am glad that it's been brought up on LST. My two cents: I 100% understand that symbol was around and used in several cultures long way before that delusional psychopathic meth head chose it to represent himself and the drugged up soldiers fighting his Blitzkrieg. I understand that it has a powerful meaning, completely unrelated to death squads, extermination camps, gas chambers, mass graves or burning emaciated bodies, but that's what it means to me. No matter how nice the tattoo or painting, even when I want to see past it, it's there for me. Jondix had drawn some beautiful designs incorporation the symbol for my husband, who had the courtesy to ask first, and I had to say no, too much baggage for me. But if it means something completely different for you, go for it. I don't care what the rest of you do with your bodies, but I just can't have it in my own house.1 point
