    TAM interview

Well I'm pretty excited and nervous about a who knows when it will be published - interview for TAM. I was really flattered that Dawn Coooke asked to interview me for the magazine and surprised that Crash supported it. If you know me, you probably have realized that I' m not too big on self promotion----- but after my initial reaction of surprise---- I thought, why not go with it! In preparation, Dawn supplied me with some questions, but prepare as I tried I was not at all at ease come interview time. The interview took place during the State of Grace Show in SF this past October. I don't know what I expected , but I found my self a little at a loss for words ( which rarely occurs) and struggling with not bumbling like an idiot , in front of a sound man and a camera man and Dawn's at ease interview manner. Dawn was great though and after what seemed like an eternity, but in actuality was an hour and 1/2 -,2hours--- we finished up with the story of my 30+ year tattoo life. Now, if I can not sabotage myself, I just have to supply Crash w a video of me doing a tattoo & then off to print sometime in the near future. So, I'm pretty excited and I'll keep you all posted - when it comes out. Deb

  2. In London today with my brother in law celebrating his birthday. What better way to cap the day off with a great tattoo.

  5. Im not sure how I never posted in this thread. Anyways, I was 17 and working at Applebee's when I met Ralph. He was a ex con Sureno who started doing tattoos on the side for some extra cash. Anyways, I decided to hit him up for a quick piece on my ankles. I have "Rise" on one ankle and "Above" on another. The fonts are shitty, the rise is higher than the above, and the E in rise looks like a C with a dick in the middle. Dont get tattooed by cooks from Applebee's.

  6. I feel lady heads ruled last year and will continue to rule this year. Especially if Vargas keeps doing ridiculously good ones on people.

  20. It's a ryukannon. The artist thought just going to the bottom of my butt would be more traditional for a woman and more feminine. If I was a dude, he probably would have gone to the backs of my thighs. I'm not usually too worried about how feminine I look, but I appreciated the thought he put into it and the examples of old, traditional Japanese back pieces on women he showed me, so I agreed with his suggestion to cut it off there. It's not done yet, but I couldn't be happier with it so far. It fits the space perfectly.

Awesome thread!!! Dave Gibson gave me a list about 7 years ago of tattooers he would suggest I get tattooed by! I asked for guys and gals with 40 years in or close to it and I have slowly been chipping away at his list ever since!

  28. My life is a weird happy delusional stage. Though once I end up in the shower with you, shaving your body hair, I'm going to stop taking medication and devote my life to Jesus, cause there's only so much I can take. Haha.

  29. Crazy bastards... I never took anything for tattooing. Well, during, but after I have. The sleep thing reminded me of when I had legal sleeping pills. I found out that if I forced myself to be awake, I would be in some weird happy delusional stage. Once I interviewed myself in the shower in English, while I shaved all my body hair :)

That's because your old mate makes his opinions based on the internet and tv shows, not the real world. He obviously has never seen Oliver take walk-ins all day and totally nail every single tattoo drawing, regardless of style in less than 15 minutes. Then execute every tattoo, regardless of style, cleanly, quickly and accurately without rock star attitude. Just to make this clear, Oliver manages to give walk-in customers what they want and make a great tattoo that he can be happy with and other tattooers will appreciate. Think about that for a minute... walk-in customers who don't give a shit who he is... and just want a tattoo they can like.... great tattoos... It's a rare talent among tattooers and even more rare among 'artists' who make tattoos. Making great tattoos, making customers happy and having a great time while being so fucking cool to everyone else in the room and helping tattooers less experienced than him, yeah, fuck that guy. I'd hate for the guy who does my awesome tattoo to have a toothpick, like ewwww, gross, totally not cool.

  35. I think many tattooers know about his work, but I love Greg Christians tattoos. Solid bold clean traditional tattoos and obviously you can see the direct influence on chad k.....my wife got one from him and now Im trying to meet up with him later int he year to get one. Next to Mike Wilson, chad, scott and a handful of others Greg does some of my favorite panther heads.

  38. I am with Deb. If someone asks me to recommend a tattoo artist I do. If they ask me about an already existing tattoo then I smile and nod my head in as positive a manner as I can muster. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. If they start paying me to be a life coach then I will start giving them the truth. Most people can't tell the difference anyway. In fact I am beginning to wonder if I can tell the difference. In the last year I have started to use (I fucking hate this term, but it is the proper one so I will use it) social media, and it is having a negative impact on the way I feel about certain tattooers and their tattoos. There are a couple of guys in particular that I used to love their tattooing, but now it does not move me at all. I am not sure if it is the tattoos or the way that these people come across on the internet, but either way I have stopped liking their work. It really makes me wonder if I really liked their work before or if I just recognized their name and was influenced by that recognition. Anyway I have gone way off of topic. Ignorance is bliss. This is especially true when you have a great big shitty tattoo covering your forearm.
