  1. Chad and I shot the breeze for 3 hours planning the tattoo he's doing on my stomach, and another handful of emails to get it right; and it's a black panther. He's willing to put the time in to make sure you get what you want; and you're going to walk out of there with an honest tattoo. May not be exactly what you had in mind, but thats the great part about running it through another person; the marriage of your idea and their execution making something that you may not have pictured but is exactly what you need.

  5. Yeah, his portfolio in the shop is something to look at!!! I'm doing a Mom tattoo of a heart and roses. It's a tribute piece. I told him to go crazy on the heart with a crown or something. Aaron is real laid back as is Mondo, one of the other guys in the shop. There is also another artist named Josh Carter. They are all on INSTAGRAM and their work is top notch!!! Looking forward to what Aaron creates.....

  9. Im with you on this one man. Back pieces look unfinished and cramped when they don't extend onto the butt/thighs in my opinion. The japanese definitely got it right in this regard, Flow and readability is everything when it comes to Tattoos.

Not sure where Sailor Eddie (Jr) might fall into the mix here (Bonnie & Clyde's Tattoo) in Philly....but he has been tattooing 40/41 years and just celebrated his 49th Bday! He has become a good friend of mine (like a brother) and this is a guy who learned to shave an arm with a straight razor when he was 5 years old, cut acetates when he was 8 years old, and sat and colored in flash with his Grandmother and Paul Rogers as a kid! It's amazing to sit down in the shop with him and look though the family photo albums he has! I think I am heading up tomorrow to see him in fact....since the weather is gonna really nice!

Speaking of legends: I just made an appointment with Bob Roberts for next month. Now I just need to decide what to get! Whatever it is, it'll be small, as I only have a few smallish souvenir spots remaining.

    Tattoo age on VBS

I'm not sure which bums me out more, that there isn't going to be a second season of Tattoo Age or that there IS going to be a second season of Ink Master. I'd also donate money to see more Tattoo Age.

  20. @daveborjes I said most, not all. Mexico does have it's good beers, but it takes time to find them. If you look at my post I do try and define a specific type of beer though that I think you agree on. But we're getting off topic now. Back to strange crap people but in beer.

    Panther Tattoos

That's on a good friend of mine. He later got a matching tiger on the other side. He's covered in great stuff from Josh Arment, a full sleeve from Horitomo, Ed Hardy...the list goes on and on.

  30. Really dude, just go with your gut and you'll be much happier in the long run! And the less "explanation" a tattoo needs, the better.

  31. So you got family friendly tattoos but want a non-family friendly tattoo that says you don't like how tattoos are now family friendly? Just get what you like dude and don't worry about hipsters or hippies or whoever. Stick with something you identify with and you can't lose, everyone else be damned. (Apologies if this came off extra cranky, long day yesterday.)

    Possibly Dumb Question

Or something in the lines of this.... This particular awesomeness was tattooed by our very own @Stewart Robson (I think tattoos like these are traditionally done in the armpits as a part of japanese bodysuites though. Please correct me if i'm wrong)

..if the Pagans were still running the Philly show (didn't they used to do security there at least?) I'd be willing to bet that "cut" would be ripped right the fuck off.

Awesome thread!!! Dave Gibson gave me a list about 7 years ago of tattooers he would suggest I get tattooed by! I asked for guys and gals with 40 years in or close to it and I have slowly been chipping away at his list ever since!

  36. Ugghh.....Okay, I want to first apologize to the rest of the forum, I just started posting yesterday but I feel VERY strongly about this subject. I'm a 2nd generation tattooer, my mother has been tattooing for 33 yrs, and learned how to make "machines" from Paul Rogers, I'm sure that name means nothing to you, but it should. My father has been tattooing since '75, his first shop job was with Bob Shaw and Col. Todd, once again names I'm sure mean nothing to you, but should. My step-father has been tattooing for 23 yrs, and he guests once a year at Inksmith and Rogers, once again a name that I'm sure means nothing to you, but really really should. I myself have only been tattooing for 10 yrs, I was a little late getting to it, and realistically still just a journeyman. My family has been tattooing for a combined 104 yrs. So yes they are called machines, coolness has nothing to do with it. It's about respect, respect for the craft that has fed my family for decades, respect for those that have come before, respect for those that have paid their dues and dedicated their entire being to Tattooing. When new tattooers who know jack shit about jack shit have over inflated egos and meet any criticism with comments about "haters", they pretty much shit on everything that my family has worked for. So in summation go fuck yourself. You're not welcome in my world.

  42. And there it is. Tattooers like Stewart -- tattooers who have dedicated their lives to tattooing, gone about it the right way so as to pay respect to the trade and lineage of the craft, tattooers who are not only fantastic artists but know the ins and outs of their equipment, shit, tattooers that work in a shop -- pretty much have every right to be a dickhead to someone with an inflated ego scratchin outta their kitchen. Because we all see this shit every day. Do yourself a favor and put down the "gun," draw your ass off for the next couple of years, and maybe if you're able to learn a little humility (and also how to draw) in that time, you'll get lucky enough to get some tutelage with an apprenticeship, or at least get someone to point you in the right direction. Good luck.

  45. I take the wrap off once I get home. Wash the tattoo with hot water and soap until it stops weeping and then I wash it twice a day after that. I don't put anything on it at all. My tattoos all look as bright and colourful as the day I got them. Although my oldest is only just under 4 years old

Having lived in the West Country, UK for most of my life it would have to be Bristols Les Skuse. I would have loved to have been tattooed by Les, he died in 1973 a couple of years after I got tattooed for the first time. Here is some of Les Skuses work.
