At the Philly tattoo convention yesterday, they made sure to announce over the PA system that Al Fliction was in the house. All the amazing tattooers there this weekend, and Al gets a shoutout.

i'm convinced that there could be a show where people compete to smash crap with their feet and people would watch it. this week was exciting as bob jumped in the lead during the dog doo challenge, but wait till you see the shocking twist that's in store for the contestants next week as they take on elephant dung! be prepared for an unexpected ending in which amazing revelations will occur and quick camera cuts will happen as intense music builds, the anticipation...who will win? -time for a commercial....."come down zombietown where we're having a blowout your brains sale" "buy more lame crap to fill up your empty life and messy house" "dont forget to like us on facebook"

  5. One of my best friends & coolest mofo in the entire universe - Stooks - just got his new site up. He's just returned from a reasonable stint in Europe and is currently based at 5 Star Tattoo, Fremantle, Western Australia. Check out his stuff and if he ever comes to a shop near you (hey, it could happen? lol) and you want a super rad tattoo & good times, he's your man  http://stookstattoo.com/ 5 Star Tattoo Studio Fremantle - Local Business - Fremantle, Australia | Facebook

  7. Funny, too, we did a bunch of filler a while ago and left that spot cause it was just big enough for "something," just in case. And yesterday Perez texted me about three minutes before I popped over to the booth though I hadn't seen the text yet. It fit right in that spot like it was made for it and he used pencil dust for the stencil to boot. And had the exact right amount of paper towels. Not sayin it was fate.. but hey, if the snake fits.

  8. I'll just go ahead and post the link, since I'm sure @Perez is happy to spread the magic. Didn't get to see Polito but what I did get was a little snake from a Lee Roy acetate from Andy Perez. Good times x10: Instagram Also somehow made it through a brutal rib session with Ron "Angel Fingers" Wells, but not quite done yet, so you'll all have to wait for that one.

Last winter i was able to see Dan higgs perform at Robert ryan's studio/apartment in Asbury park. At the time, I was staying at my dad's place in Bradley beach, a town away, so I walked over about a half hour before the show and got there before anyone else had really shown up. I went upstairs and entered this dark apartment illuminated only by candlelight, hazy with incense, decorated with eastern deities and inhabited solely by Bink himself, who was prepping for the show, and three huddled masses sitting in a circle in a shadowy corner, conversing and sharing a joint. I didn't recognize the two facing me, being of the traveller/hippie variety, but I recognized the voice of the bearded, sunglassed man sitting with his back to me as he said "and that's not when I SAW yellow, but I FELT yellow..." I said to myself, "I don't do nearly enough drugs to get this shit", and i went and sat down by myself in the opposite corner. That's my higgs story

I've never seen the show, but for the sake of All that is Sacred, I wish this thread would die and maybe we'll pretend it never happened. It all makes me think of ''Uncle Ernie'' in ''Tommy'' ,....''fiddle about, fiddle about'' these TV chairman could give a rats ass about tattoos or anyone associated with it. just another project. you don't have to eat what they serve, just turn your head and walk away.

  12. I've been looking at a lot of tattoo cover-up pictures recently and figured it'd be cool to see what cover-ups LSTers have both gotten as well as tattooed. So if you have before and after pictures please post them up. Here's a recent one I found on Sarah Schor's Blog from King's Avenue in New York. I really like the use of the hair in this lady head to cover-up the old tattoo lettering. For me I enjoy seeing cover-ups that could stand on their own without being a cover-up. What I mean is yes the old tattoo is not visible but had you not had to have it placed where it is you would get in anywhere and anyways. Lets see 'em.......

I liked both of those 'pon di Instagram, but I'll like your post here, too. I'm so stoked for you, man. And I can't believe that the stencil fit! I've been thinking about that a lot lately: back in the stencil era, you got what you got, and you got it in that size. Super, super cool.

    Tattooer Timeline

Been tattooing my friend Nato since I was about 2 years in 14 years ago. Started with a backpiece (bad idea at that point in my career but what can you do) and next month we are completing his 7/10th body suit. I love/hate seeing the progression. Its really hard to not see all the things you would do differently but nothing can be done about that. Luckily, most of his stuff held up pretty well, its mostly the drawings/designs that I wish I could take a mulligan on.

  29. got this one today from the apprentice in the shop where i work, Jon Probasco. it's from one of the Theo Mindell sheets in the Spider Murphy's book... it also makes me want to throw some diving elbows from the top rope. photo just after it was finished. also, the last few letters wrap around just a bit, hence the skewed perspective.

Regardless of the topic, why must every reality show have some douche who says "I didn't come here to make friends". I'm going to go on a show. I'm going to say "I totally came here to make a bunch of friends, hopefully have sex with someone, and maybe just maybe not look like a big ol' douche on tv."

  36. I meant to put Chris Smith in here before. He tattoos at Deluxe Tattoo in Chicago and also makes machines I think (Workhorse Irons))? I think he does some really clean-looking, bright tattoos. I am almost sorry I went ahead with Japanese chest plates when I see these kinds of trad front pieces:- I like his big cat heads too. His (not updated very often) blog: Being dead looks retarded

  37. My cover up went from this: to this: Because the original tattoo had a lot of black in it, and colours all over the place, I honestly had no idea if it would work out but figured I'd ask anyway. I am pretty farkin happy to say the least!!! (and yes that is Venom lol)

Hogg, you mentioned this before and I think I remember other folks talking about the soaking that's popular in Japan. Totally crazy. I'll definitely try the hot towel thing, though it makes me super nervous!

It's similar to the "hot soak" method that's popular in Japan. About an hour after I get tattooed, I get the water as hot as I can stand it and either take a hot shower or soak in a hot bath for about 10 minutes. It usually hurts worse than the tattoo itself, at least at first, but the pain subsides fairly quickly. I've had great results with healing tattoos this way.

I waited about 10 mins for ointment to dry a little, and then I applied it right away after. You keep it on until it's no longer hot.

Get a paper towel, or a cloth from the hot water dispenser and soak it. Apply immediately after opening you're towel or cloth and keep it on and make a face, cause it's going to hurt. The hot water is suppose to suck down the swelling and pull out the red like witch hazel. I've noticed I heal real faster and better doing this.

  45. I don't have any cover-ups on my body but I tattoo a hell of a lot of them. Most of the larger work that I do (bigger than 1/2 sleeve) usually incorporates some kind of cover-up. I started to make a point of NOT taking a 'before' picture. Sometimes I do, but I found that the cover-up requests got bigger and bigger the more cover-ups I showed. Covering a half sleeve sized tattoo with a full sleeve compromises the end product but I sometimes enjoy the challenge and the problem-solving aspect of it. This is one of the more tricky ones from last year or so, when I used to take 'before' photos: I got an email today asking if I could cover a full sleeve - with a sleeve.
