Panther by Richard Stell. Thanks Richard and jennifer5 points -
This morning at 12:30am my wife had our second child. We named him London Christopher! He came in at 21 inches long and a whopping 10 pounds 14 ounces. My wife is a true champ, we (SHE!!) did a home birth. So no pain killers, totally natural!!!4 points

Very good question, The healthcare system is the reason. Unlike Japan, which has the best healthcare system in the world, the US has the worst. (This was published in Forbes Mag.) When my wife and I went over the goals for the birth it became very apparent that the only way to meet those goals was to have our children at home. We don't want: the birth induced, vaccines, Vitamin K, poitocin and whatever other drugs they want to force on our children. Hospitals are for curing diseases and fixing things (broken bones, stiching up wounds). There really is no need to have your child there, unless there is a complication with the birth. High risk births average 5 to 8% of all births. I don't live my life in the 5 to 8%, I live in the 92%. I recommend for anyone who is having a child to set your goals and do what's best for you. You got that right, the pain of getting a tattoo is nothing compared to the pain endured during child birth.3 points

Birth Announcement
David Flores reacted to Reyeslv for a topic
It is a huge shame that we let BIG BUSINESS decide how things are done, Doctors, Hospitals and the Insurance companies are all in this together. In the US it cost more for me to opt for a Non Hospital birth. Even though a hospital birth cost is anywhere from 10 to 20K and the midwives cost 3,500.00. Yet the deductible is less for the hospital birth? The medical community needs to be asked WHY a little more!.1 point -

My ex and I are big proponents of midwifery, doulas, and natural birth options. Both of our daughters were born in hospitals, but those hospitals were natural birth friendly and let us have our doulas throughout the process. Awesome news and congratulations to your family!1 point

I was in Milan twice last year - my only experience of Italy - and was surprised how run-down large parts of it are ... Considering it's one of the fashion powerhouses of the world. It seemed like the gap between rich and poor was a little wider than at home in Ireland or some of the other countries I've been too. Some people were wearing Gucci and then there were swathes of people who looked a hell of a lot more down-at-the-heels. Where I was being tattooed was one of the biggest Tunisian ghettos in the city. A guy there told me that all of the suburbs were chock full of poor North African famillies, basically. To be honest in terms of safety I would prefer NYC / Chicago / London over the likes of Barcelona, Paris and Milan. No stats to back that up - just the way I felt walking around (and I'm not really the nervous type).1 point

Asking a tattoo artist to tattoo someone else's (non-tattoo) art?
Kev reacted to Stefan Johnsson for a topic
Paintings, illustration and drawings are great for reference and you can reproduce the motif in them just fine. But it gets tricky if you want reproduce the look and feel of other mediums as tattoos. A soft, subtle watercolor or a sketchy charcoal drawing make bad tattoos. All mediums have a natural look to them. Watercolor, oil painting, charcoal and tattooing. Now, I can force a watercolor painting to look like an oil one, but it wouldn't be in the best interest of either mediums. Same with tattooing. You can reproduce your friends painting but make it look like a tattoo.1 point -
Asking a tattoo artist to tattoo someone else's (non-tattoo) art?
Brock Varty reacted to Stewart Robson for a topic
@OutOfIdeas You should ask the person who's going to tattoo it. I tattoo paintings all the time. Raphael, Durer, DaVinci etc, etc. Every time I do praying hands or the classic Jesus head, it's from a painting or drawing. If your friend painted a tattoo style image, it will probably need tweaking a bit but you should just have a good tattooer design it for you or choose some flash. If it's a non-tattoo style painting it may need simplifying or tweaking or maybe just tattoo a portion of it to suit the body part you want it on. If something needs tweaking, it's not usually because I want to add my own personal touch, it's because it won't work as a tattoo. Like Ursula said, if its a cool painting, it's probably gonna be fun to tattoo but not all good paintings make good tattoos.1 point -

Advice for sitting still(er)
kollin reacted to Stewart Robson for a topic
If you do decide you want to use pain relieving ointment (which won't help at all with the sitting still/twitching thing, by the way) please check with your tattooer. Some don't mind, some don't like it. It changes the texture of the skin and sometimes we have to work slightly differently. On some skin types or areas, it can make the skin puffy or spongy, therefore more difficult to make clean lines, smooth shading and solid colour. As with most things, it's better to ask your tattooer, either directly or by calling the shop. ...or you could ask faceless strangers (who won't be held accountable, should problems arise) on the internet...1 point -
