I was going to attempt to watch the first episode, and recoiled at the very first time I heard that. 10 seconds later, some clown had a braided beard, and I needed to turn it off. There are certain things I have no tolerance for, and braided beards are at the top of my list.6 points

This morning at 12:30am my wife had our second child. We named him London Christopher! He came in at 21 inches long and a whopping 10 pounds 14 ounces. My wife is a true champ, we (SHE!!) did a home birth. So no pain killers, totally natural!!!5 points

Asking a tattoo artist to tattoo someone else's (non-tattoo) art?
Kev and 2 others reacted to Stefan Johnsson for a topic
Paintings, illustration and drawings are great for reference and you can reproduce the motif in them just fine. But it gets tricky if you want reproduce the look and feel of other mediums as tattoos. A soft, subtle watercolor or a sketchy charcoal drawing make bad tattoos. All mediums have a natural look to them. Watercolor, oil painting, charcoal and tattooing. Now, I can force a watercolor painting to look like an oil one, but it wouldn't be in the best interest of either mediums. Same with tattooing. You can reproduce your friends painting but make it look like a tattoo.3 points -
If I could do it over it would be like 8 giant tattoos Bowling pin on forearm, crawling panther, spider web elbows, chest eagle.... You get the idea. Than I would retire from the game. Like jay z did.... 4 albums ago3 points

If the painting sucks they're not gonna be that stoked. If the painting is rad, then they'd be more into probably. There lots and lots of people who get paintings tattooed on them, like a Van Gough image or something. There's also lots and lots of people who bring in their own or their friends art that they want tattooed on them. Most of the time it's not that great and needs to be redrawn, but there are artists who will do it exactly like you bring it in, if that's what you really want.3 points

Home Ownership, Is it for Me?
Reyeslv and one other reacted to Jaycel Adkins for a topic
Two Cents: Look at the total costs of owning a home, i.e. principal plus the interest you are going to pay on the mortgage. I doubt that when both are added up and you come to sell the home or your descendants decide to sell the home, that you will have made a significant amount of money on it. Going into debt for the sole purpose of an investment is NOT the way to go. I mean, is the home you are going to buy going to appreciate more than the interest you are going to be paying for the debt to own the home? That's the ONLY question I think that matters in terms of looking at the house as an investment. But, a house for many people isn't an investment, it's a home. If that's your goal, then go forward. The other stuff doesn't matter, if you are reasonably sure of your ability to make payments for the next 15 to 30 years. If your goal is an investment, look elsewhere. But good luck to you, it's a great thing to have no debts, just really think hard (as you obviously seem to be doing) about adding a five or six figure debt. @Reyeslv Agrees with your major point. In this economy, financial stability isn't in a house, it's in money in the bank. Or better yet, a high margin business.2 points -

Asking a tattoo artist to tattoo someone else's (non-tattoo) art?
Brock Varty reacted to Stewart Robson for a topic
@OutOfIdeas You should ask the person who's going to tattoo it. I tattoo paintings all the time. Raphael, Durer, DaVinci etc, etc. Every time I do praying hands or the classic Jesus head, it's from a painting or drawing. If your friend painted a tattoo style image, it will probably need tweaking a bit but you should just have a good tattooer design it for you or choose some flash. If it's a non-tattoo style painting it may need simplifying or tweaking or maybe just tattoo a portion of it to suit the body part you want it on. If something needs tweaking, it's not usually because I want to add my own personal touch, it's because it won't work as a tattoo. Like Ursula said, if its a cool painting, it's probably gonna be fun to tattoo but not all good paintings make good tattoos.1 point -

One of the big differences I found when I moved from Toronto, Canada to Jacksonville, FL was the way men treated me. I'm talking about, random guy on the street who I don't know. In Toronto I have never had someone yell a sexual obscenity at me on the street, or on the bus. I never had a random guy at the bar in Canada think it was appropriate to touch me on the thigh or breast out of nowhere, like it was his right. In Jacksonville I've had all of that and much much worse. Miami was by far the worst place for it. A couple of examples. On the bus one day while minding my own business reading a book or whatever, this guy comes up to me and says "If I asked to see all your tattoos would you get naked right now?". Yeah dude, I'm gonna get naked on a bus. I was at a bar on New Year's Eve, this guy walks up to me says nothing and just sticks his band between my legs. Wow awesome dude, I guess you forgot that you personally know my fiancé and saw me with him 5 minutes ago. And even if you didn't, wtf bro? When is that ever acceptable? While waiting for the bus in Jacksonville (while wearing long pants and a tshirt) I've had a number of men drive around the block a few times trying to offer me money for "my services". Countless men yelling rude things out their car windows. Men who get actually angry with you when you say 'sorry I have a boyfriend already'. I was at the bar in Tampa with a female friend. We're at the rail ordering drinks, I feel someone grab onto and hold my hand, like in the boyfriend or BFF way, I assume it's my friend, then I look over and see she's on the other side of me. I turn around and it's some random dude. So I lean over to try and tell him that he's offended me, and why. He put his hand in my face, walked away angry, and then spent the rest of the night trying to show us what an awesome catch I'd missed by dancing like he was at a rave about 10 feet away from us. Other big difference. Racism. The very first day I lived in the USA, I told someone I had just come from Canada. His reply: Do y'all got a lot of niggers up there? Not saying there isn't racism in Canada, because there certainly is, it's just not as strong or as widespread. Not as accepted. Oh and one more. The education system, specifically the public school system. Wow. I've already told my fiancé if we did ever have kids, we're moving back to Canada when they're ready to start school. THANKS AMERICA!!!!!!!!! p.s. I felt I needed to edit this to add that in regards to all the gross man behaviour. I do not in any way dress provocatively. Anyone here who knows me can verify this. I'm a real jeans and t-shirt kinda lady for the most part.1 point -

One time, knowing that my cat was scared of the sound of the vacuum and that my partner was about to start vacuuming, I picked up my cat in an attempt to soothe him. I still have a pretty good size scar on my hand from that! A couple of weeks ago I opened a gate the wrong direction. It swung back and hit me in the head. I had to get 3 stitches above my left eye!1 point

Personal preferences on tattooing necks and hands
Shannon Shirley reacted to Lochlan for a topic
Almost my whole life I have always ran with people years older than me so I think I forgot and often times still forget they are older than me, set in their professions, and lots of other variables that I forgot/forget when starting to get visible tattoos. Not gonna psychoanalyze it and I don't regret it one bit, however, do know even living in SF/Bay Area it has limited me in certain cases here and working elsewhere. I do know I've had to and continue to have to prove myself to many people in my profession not familiar with my work due to being "heavily" tattooed. I wear suits to my contracts to compensate for the tattoos though I do have an obsession with suits and think i partially developed it due to the visible tattoos and my work. Bottomline, I totally get the argument and support the argument to get a fair amount of other spots done first. I had to goto other tattooers early on as Scott and some others would not tattoo my hands, fingers, and/or neck until more recently like the last two years or something. My first finger/thumb tattoo was done by I can't remember who around nine years ago. My first hand tattoo which is a small one in between my thumb and pointer finger was done by Tim Lehi around nine years ago at Tattoo City and had a mutual friend of ours take me in-between some of Tim's other appointments. Tim didn't seem too phased by the fact I didn't have my arms fully covered. For my other hand tattoo I went to Zach Johnson when he was at Picture Machine in SF which was a spur of the moment thing. I swung by the shop to hangout with some of the guys there before dinner and one thing led to another and blammo, hand tattoo covering the whole top and missed my dinner reservations. My fingers were also done at Picture Machine except I believe by Iggy and I was pretty well covered on my arms and about half my front done by this time. I went to Nick Rodin when he first moved up here to do my neck tattoos as Scott Sylvia refused to do my hands and neck for many many years though I had almost both arms sleeved and my front pretty well covered in tattoos. I totally respect Scott for his reasons and acted like a kid hiding something from their parents, haha. I remember my heart beating pretty damn fast hoping he didn't ask what I was in getting tattooed that day. For those who don't know they both work at Blackheart so I just acted like I was there getting a regular old tattoo from Nick. I remember when Scott walked over mid tattoo, looked at what was going down, shook his head and gave one of those chuckles/laughs he does. I am very satisfied with the tattoos Nick did and Scott even came over and gave Nick some visual help on the front of the neck tattoo as Nick asked for his advice. Scott has since given in and tattooed my upper knuckles and sides of my fingers. As mentioned above, I don't regret them though know it has limited me and will continue to limit me and/or put obstacles in my way. Yes, Scott and some of the other older friends were right and can say, "I/we told you so".1 point -

Personal preferences on tattooing necks and hands
Shannon Shirley reacted to gougetheeyes for a topic
I would love to get my hands and neck tattooed. Here's why I'm waiting/saving them for last: 1.) I've got an entire back, stomach and right leg that are bare. 2.) I'm not in an industry where I can get away with it. (Maybe in ten years if I'm some kind of superstar..) 3.) I truly feel that those spots should be earned, especially if you're not a tattooer. 3a.) Nothing lamer than some dude who only has hand and neck tattoos.. especially when they're tiny. 4.) I have two little tattoos on the inside of my fingers -- they were excruciating. I plan on being extra choosy about who tattoos my hands. And neck. 5.) I live in NY. Tattoos very accepted here but it also means I have to see everyone's half-assed hipster hand tattoos.. which really forces you think about em. 6.) How do you have the balls to walk into a shop with only a few tattoos and ask to get your hands tattooed? I'd be bashful even to ask my tattooer friends right now..1 point -
