Regardless of the topic, why must every reality show have some douche who says "I didn't come here to make friends". I'm going to go on a show. I'm going to say "I totally came here to make a bunch of friends, hopefully have sex with someone, and maybe just maybe not look like a big ol' douche on tv."10 points -

Every cripple has his own way of walking. I watched the show and while I was neither scandalized or disgusted, uplifted or inspired, I definitely could have spent an hour of my life in a more productive and constructive manner. If anyone wants to watch a genuinely inspiring, humility inducing, constructively critical and real-er than reality documentary, check out BBC Imagine's Grayson Perry-The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman. I also watched a doc. on Netflix recently called Circo, about a small family run Mexican circus, and one called Buck about a horseman. There are so many good documentaries out there about real people living real lives doing something interesting, unusual or unique I wonder why anyone would bother their bollox watching, making or participating in a tattoo reality tv show. Still, bless 'em, whatever gets them through the day.5 points -
Tattoo Collector Magazine still in print?
Aussie Tom and 3 others reacted to Kev for a topic
I've only seen one issue (feat Fillip Leu), so I'm wondering if this was a one-off test run from the Tattoo Artist Magazine people. The reason I ask is because, as non-tattooer, you can't purchase TAM (I guess because of the shop talk, or whatever.) but I just want to read interviews with tattooers I like. It's the reason I don't buy other magazines featuring Johnny Nu Skool Colorbomb Portrait guy and various X-game contestants with script rib tattoos. Maybe having a place for edited versions of articles on the TAM blog or site for non-tattooers?4 points -

I meant to put Chris Smith in here before. He tattoos at Deluxe Tattoo in Chicago and also makes machines I think (Workhorse Irons))? I think he does some really clean-looking, bright tattoos. I am almost sorry I went ahead with Japanese chest plates when I see these kinds of trad front pieces:- I like his big cat heads too. It's only a matter of time. It's cheap to make with a tried-and-tested formula. People like to watch it and people LOVE to talk about it. That's why this type of programming has flooded the schedules over the last 5-10 years. Tattoos are just the most recent application of the formula. Right now, as I type there's a reality/contest show with a wedding theme on the tv, next it's probably cooking or someone's children. Crappy tattoos are the tip of the amoral tv iceberg. I'm still waiting for The RunningMan to hit the schedules for real. I'm just left thinking - A conversation about how good something is lasts 5 minutes. A conversation about how bad something is can last hours.2 points -

I have a five point nautical star on my chest, (one of my early tattoos), I would much rather have a spider with a web around it or a nice cat head in that spot. I have both knee caps available, on one I know I am going to do a tibetan skull, I have a pretty simplified design that should work well and has been drawn to fit the space I have left, now just getting up the balls to do it.1 point -
@RoryQ Check out Tim Hendricks blog ,Saltwater Tattoo theres a great red and black compass design.1 point

I have been revisiting knee tattoos lately and thinking about designs. I've seen some cool spiderweb designs from Stewart Robson (with a spider at the centre) and from Nick Colella which made me search for more. One design that seems to crop up in a few cases is a spider web with a nautical star of some sort. As something I have always liked the idea of for a knee tattoo is a compass star I was curious where the combination of spider web with star comes from - anyone know? Random combination or is there a story behind it...1 point

The lettering on Al Fliction's tattoo made me laugh. The entire thing was awful but the lettering really caught my eye in a bad way. I enjoyed seeing the look on his face as they judges told him his work was garbage. Funny that Dave Navarro had a hard on for that tattoo. I was really hoping Oliver would be a little more brutal when judging. Who knows what they cut out I guess.1 point -

Lol. Ok I had to watch this before making a comment... 1. In the intro where the voice over guys says (in a menacing voice) "... Ten of the worlds top tattooers blah blah blah..." This is clearly flagrant false advertising. (any lawyers on here have any advice on what could be done? haha) 2. That Jeremy dude needs a slap upside the head... and Oliver should give it to him. My limited understanding was that the majority of Japanese tattooers had been tattooing full back pieces with their clients on their stomachs for a rather long time? My bad... lol. 3. I will admit that the best part was the judging. some of those 'tattooers' got rightfully pwned. Thanks to whoever posted the link so that any non-americans could have a good laugh.1 point -

Came home last night after burgers and beers, poured a glass of whiskey and turned on the TV. Flipped around and saw the show, caught it about 5 minutes after it started, watched the thing and laughed my ass off. Pretty funny stuff and yeah, it's a TV show, so it's gonna be.. just like a TV show. The best part was the names. HEATHER SIN, B-TATS, AL FLICTION.. Al Fliction is barely clever.. by like the narrowest of margins.. AL FLICTION!!1 point -

I don't have an opinion on this, but I'd like to share a lingering resentment. I was at the Salt Lake City convention a few years ago, and had just gotten a tattoo by the fabulous Mike Wilson. I was trying to read the ingredients on this alledged aftercare product when this shmoozy sales guy proceeded to ask me who did the tattoo, pretend to know who Mike was, and in a very condescending fashion tried to edjumacate on how to heal a tattoo. As far as I could see, this asshole didn't have a single tattoo anywhere on his body. For the rest of the day, I could hear Brad Pitt muttering "Don't condescend to me motherfucker" in my head. Actually, I can still hear it now.1 point
