  1. Got this a week ago from Scott Sylvia at Blackheart on my forearm Pictures don't do it justice at all the colours are much more vivid and it looks a lot sharper in person, and its a bit warped in these as i tried to take the photos myself, but you get the idea

  5. i put this on a guy when i first came to berlin and was doing a guest spot at fuer immer. the appointment was booked before i arrived, and i was a little unsure if i should do, because, believe it or not, the drawing he had brought in was of even lower quality. after some contemplation and discussing it with one of the owners who said he would probably do it, i decided to do it. when the customer came in, i asked him about his design. in poor english he explained that his old roommate had painted it on his shower curtain years ago and he loved the image. he didn't seem retarded, so i went for it. he came back to me a few months ago for another tattoo, which was also weird, but maybe not as weird, and says he still loves the penis. also, his english seems to have improved.

  6. They are celebrating this year because Sailor Jerry Rum is sponsoring it, and Chicago Tattoo Company has posted it all over Instagram. My birthday is November 24th, but I have no sponsors.

  8. I got tattooed by Chris Trevino in 1997, right before I left Austin for SF. He said he had just done a guest spot in SF, so I asked him what the coolest tattoo he did on the trip was. Now, for those of you who are familiar with Pre-100% Japanese Style Chris Trevino, you know that "coolest tattoo" also meant "craziest tattoo." He went on to describe an insane armpit-to-waistline rib piece that involved, among other other things, a jackelope wearing a fez, a waterfall of blood, and a lady with a beehive hairdo making the devil horns with her ring and middle fingers tucked away in her special pocket. I couldn't really get my head around it, but that was the case with many of the tattoos Chris described to me. Fast forward to 1999, when I finally had enough money to get tattooed by Eddy Deutsche. I went to 222 on my lunch break and booked the appointment with some guy at the counter. We got to talking about my tattoos and I mentioned that I had work from Chris. He said, "Oh yeah, he did my ribs" and lifted up his shirt. It was that piece! And the guy was Jeff Rassier, who is in a league of his own when it comes to putting weird (and awesome) tattoos on people.

  10. I saw a lot of shops posting pictures on instagram yesterday for free/cheap SJ tattoo events across the country. They were all showing lines around the block, super packed standing room only inside the shops, etc. I also saw a few people post their 'daily sheets' as we call them back home. The one where you write down all the tatts you did that day. Some of these guys made a lot of money yesterday, and some did a lot of tattoos and made nothing off them. I dunno how I feel about the whole thing. I wouldn't wait in line all day for it, but then again I can get a free or cheap sailor jerry tattoo whenever I want. I did think it was interesting that someone said in the other thread on this topic that Sailor Jerry himself didn't drink and hated cheapskates.

  12. No hammies for me, and my backpiece is Japanese imagery. I wanted my back to look like a big one shot tattoo. I will finish the flames, but I haven't decided if I will do any background at all.

  13. My Grandfather told me that his tattoos were a secret code to other fishermen and sailors, like a weird sea-faring Masonic thing. I was with him in a pub in Dublin as a kid and someone bought him a drink. He claimed it was because of his mermaid tattoo, but the guy probably just owed him. Might have file this one under 'bullshit my grandfather told me'.

Yeah. We started it in June last year, and then he decided to move to New York. He will be coming through Seattle in May, and we are going to finish it up. Our last session was almost eight straight hours. I am hoping we only have about four hours left.

  17. Honestly I remember a bunch of a people doing specials for his birthday last year so this is nothing new, it's just has corporate sponsorship this year and free rum and the "media" is now covering it. Bottom line is he died in 1973, so I can't really pretend to have a moral high ground on this issue, I wasn't even born yet. It could be worse, there could be cherry creek rum and tattoo johnny vodka.

  21. I think the longest between tattoos for me since I turned 18 has been a year and a half? I think it averages out to three or four months from finishing one piece to starting another, funds permitting. I recently got both feet tattooed and the month long wait between the first and the second was killing me, I couldn't wait to see the finished product. Got to agree with gougetheeyes though, that 'the itch' gets worse when I hang around with other people getting tattoos, keeps them on my mind.

  22. the fiancee and i celebrated yesterday by heading to Classic Ink here in Dublin, and getting some of his flash designs, with 101 substituted in place of USA or a USN (i got an old USA shield, she got a USN anchor). no rum was anywhere to be found, and we paid in full. well, there may have been rum in a one stumbly fellow's pocket who came in and tried selling us all jewelry he stole from various stores in the area, but that's neither here nor there.

  33. I get asked this every few months. When I was doing more walk-in type tattoos I got asked every other day, at least. My answer was always: "Most tattoos are pretty weird. It's weird to get tattoos animals you've never had direct experience with or that don't exist onto your body. It's odd to get a tattoo of a prostitute or stripper, or a mode of transportation, or a word out of context, or a reproduction of someone you never met, etc. Mostly tattooing, by it's nature is weird. But the weirdest tattoo I've done is a grocery shopping list on a guys forearm, in neat handwriting, from wrist to ditch." That's weirder than the eyelids, heads, assholes, palms, satanic shit, sexual stuff, dolphin penis guy etc. So that's my answer. I work with Miles, who used to work at IntoYou in London back when tattoos were for weirdos and freaks. Some of that shit blows my mind. Maybe I'll ask him for permission to share his stories. On the other hand, maybe some of tattooing's folk tales need to stay off the internet and remain an oral tradition.

I really like Stoney St. Clairs ladies. The hair looks like out of a 50' rockabilly hand book and I havent really seen anyone (or at least can remember) who does them like him. Only one I found online. Stoney St. Clair Ladies Flash Then Theo Mindell is someone I second, and also would like to ad Marco Cerretelli. But Theo is maybe my all time favorite in any type of style Theo Mindell tattoo pictures He is THE MAN.
